I used this watch on two section hikes of the Pacific Crest Trail (2007 & 2008). I used to have a Timex Silex which I used on the AT in 2005, but the buttons went bad and Timex swapped me for this one (plus $50!). I like the watch, but my altimeter is faulty. It won't record well on climbs and descents (lags and must be reset too often). That's OK as I now carry a GPS and I really like to have the temperature feature anyway.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Overall, I have enoyed the Timex products.

Two Defective Thus Far -
I've had 2 of these go bad thus far, with a replacement being shipped by the kind folks at the Arkansas Timex repair HQ. In each, the display suddenly turns into a single horizontal bar about 1/8 inch thick just above the centerline of the crystal. The altimeter is not as accurate as a similar Casio I had about 10 years ago (the Timex requires daily or more often calibration to achieve accuracy). When it works, it's a neat watch, but I'd love to know what's causing the displays to go bad (perhaps static electricity from walking on carpet with Rockport shoes?).

We had to return this watch twice because of the band. Now we want a refund.
