This shoe is short. I wear a size 12 wide, and my toes are jammed up against the front of this shoe. Now I need to figure out how I can loose some weight on my feet for it to fit! It's sad because it is such a good looking shoe, and strong too! Unfortunately it does not come in a 12.5 wide, so I cannot get it exchanged. I had to end up buying a Men's Clarks Molten in a size 10 medium to get a proper fitting hiking boot.

Great hiking shoe. These hikers address my two major fitting difficulties shoes that are wide that also have enough toe space. I've usually settled for men's sizes, sacrificing style. Lately, the men's haven't fit, either. In contrast, these hikers fit and look very good. With added gel inserts for increased arch support, I have worn these hikers comfortably on several hikes.

So Comfortable!
I took the advice and ordered a half size up. These boots are so comfortable. I absolutely love them. They fit perfectly with socks and I am glad they are waterproof. Not as cute as some other hiking boots but when they feel good, who cares?

Too Short -
I only rated this shoe 3 stars for "overall" just because it ran too short for me. Normally I wear a 10 1/2 Narrow, which is almost impossible to find. Well I finally found one in this great shoe (which also has the roll bar I need for supination), but my toes bumped the ends. Unfortunately, there is no 11 N available, so I'm out of luck. If you can find a length you're comfortable with, I highly recommend this shoe for comfort. It also hugged my skinny foot very securely!

New Balance WW977 -
New Balance shoes have had some unreliable fits in the last few years, and after reading the comments on this model I ordered 2 pairs of half-size larger shoes in both 2AA and B width. The 2AA width was too narrow but the B width was perfect. They are the same length as another New Balance shoe, size 9, so you should probably order a half-size larger. They are very comfortable and fit right out of the box. The price of New Balance shoes are absolutely worth it if you get them properly fitted.

Great boot for problem feet -
Finally found an extra wide hiking boot that accommodates my orthotic with a comfy, boxy toe. Have had hammer toe surgery and have a bunion so I need the extra toe width. Love the look and comfort of this boot. I needed a half size larger but with Zappos that's no problem finding the right size with free shipping for returns.

Good shoes!
So great to be able to find a narrow width! They are very comfortable, so long as you wear proper socks with them that don't rub your little toes. They do seem to run a little short, no problem for me since I ordered a half size larger, because my regular NB walking shoes -- the best I have ever had! -- are the same and I ordered accordingly, based on sales rep advice by phone. Very well made, easy to lace. I find that I don't have to wear my shoe inserts with NB shoes. I have bad knees and NB shoes are great for that!

I thought it was comfortable while using it at home before wearing it to hike. However, when I did go hiking, the shoe felt tight. I need a wider shoe; however, it is difficult to find shoes wider than EE.

Very small -
This boot is described as being larger and wider than the usual size - this is the opposite. It is a full size smaller. Otherwise very good.

Excellent shoe. It is a little narrow but as I ordered them to wear with big socks it is fine. Especially like the light weight quality.

Dry, but short -
I have narrow feet (10 AA) and wear substantial orthotics. I work outside installing and working in gardens. I have needed waterproof shoes that can support my feet, but have never been able to find them for the past eight or so years. These shoes are the closest I've come yet. They are definitely waterproof, but they do not run true to size as the ball of my foot falls a little above the widest part and my toes are squeezed. It feels bad over a long day, something I did not realize in my "trial" wearing inside. I should have gotten a half size larger, I think, but am not sure this would make them feel better over a long day. I do love the way they look.

NB 977 Shoe Model/Color Differences -
FYI/Important note: Both shoes are excellent. However, the solid colored Brown GTX shoe runs a half size shorter and slightly narrower than the two-toned Walnut Brown shoe. I have both models and I needed an 8-1/2 B in the solid Brown GTX, while I needed an 8 2A in the two-toned Brown Walnut. The solid Brown also has slightly better arch support and fits a bit better overall.

A Therapeutic, Supportive, Comfortable shoe -
I have flat feet and wear orthotics. I also am "pigeon toed," due to the bone in my leg curving my feet inward. As a youth I wore corrective shoes. Therefore, I need seriously supportive, comfortable shoes to wear on a day-to-day basis, and also for walking. I put my orthotics into these shoes, and the shoes (NB WW977) meet my needs very well. I also wear other New Balance shoes, and I have found New Balance to surpass other athletic shoe manufacturers in the area of support and comfort.

This is a comfortable hiking shoe which offers great stability. Being water proof they work great for any weather. They are worth the money.

Shoe runs short -
This shoe was very comfortable, but for some reason it runs short. I wear 10.5 in all other New Balance shoes I own, but this shoe was too small at size 11. I got the narrow width and that was perfect, though.

Jan123 -
These are excellent light hikers! Very comfortable. They're not only cute, but fit very well. As with most New Balance footwear, they do run short. I usually wear an 81/2 in other brands, but with NB-I have to wear a 9. My custom orthotics also fit inside.

Shoe Runs Short -
This review is for the WW977 in the plain brown color. It's a sharp-looking shoe (no yellow stripe) and is comfortable right out of the box. I normally wear a 9.5 to 10, but even the 10 was too short for me. Zappos did not carry the 10.5B, so I had to order from a competing site. After comparing the 10 and the 10.5, I found the larger size to be just what I needed. I was astounded that this shoe ran so short. I have NEVER worn a 10.5 in ANY shoe in my life! My size 10 will have to go back to Zappos.

Helps with the rocks!
OK, these shoes aren't the prettiest on my feet, but they do protect them from the rocks! I work in Iraq on a military base that is covered in rocks to keep down dust and help with mud problems. My heel was killing me prior to these shoes. The soles of these shoes really do help even the pressure of the rocks so you don't feel EACH one of them. Now I walk for exercise and pleasure not just for business.

Best all round shoe -
Great shoes, haven't had them off, no break-in needed. Bought GTX for gardening, walking etc. For the splendid comfort and support I bought a second pair (have fused ankle). There's room for orthodics. Especially appreciate hook lacing; laces stay tied! Thank you Zappos for rapid delivery.

New Balance WW977 w/ yellow stripe -
The fit is true to size and I wear them with orthotics -- very comfortable. Put them on and have been wearing them since. Plan to buy a second pair as I have problems getting a good fit in a hiking boot.

Gortex vs. leather -
I bought the Gortex version of the 977, but tried them both. They are totally different shoes. The Gortex one runs way smaller (I finally bought and kept the 8 1/2 D which is my normal size), but if you want the leather one to fit, size it down at least one size.

Great shoe -
This review is for the all-leather version, without the yellow stripe. I wore the boots in the deep snow at Tahoe over the weekend, and my feet were perfectly warm and dry. The double EEs were wide enough for my WIDE feet, and the shoes are amazingly lightweight and they make my size 9.5 look delightfully small. They do run a little short, though -- other reviewers have noted that (in comparison to the yellow-stripe model). I would have re-ordered for a size 10, probably, but they were out of that size and I needed them for the weekend. So, my big toe was a bit snug, but not painfully so and I wore them for a couple three-mile hikes. On "balance" :) I'm very happy!

I bought these just before a 14.2 mile hike, and they were great. Comfortable from the moment I put them on, to the moment I took them off.

Feels great -
I've always had a hard time finding wide width shoes with good arch support for my high instep. Zappos.com made finding wide widths easy. My first choice was out of stock, so I took a chance on the New Balance WW977. I had already returned boots that were too narrow that I purchased on another website. I, as a rule, don't buy shoes online because my feet are hard to fit. Now that I live in Europe with my active duty Army husband, my shopping is limited to the small selection at the PX or the expensive local economy (the Euro is too strong against the dollar making exchanging currency a pricey proposition). A coworker suggested I try Zappos.com since she knew they deliver to APO addresses. Even overseas I received my shoes in under a week. The fit is perfect without needing any break-in time! My last shoes caused the sides of my feet to ache because they were just not wide enough. These are wonderful! They feel like they have springs in the soles. I'm definitely going to check with Zappos.com FIRST when I need to purchase shoes in the future!

 | | I am a network architecture consultant for a leading research and analysis company. I do a lot of online shopping, and I've seen a countless number of retail web sites. Whenever I need to tell an etailer how I compare their web site, I always use Zappos as my reference web site as The Standard. And, I use Zappos as the standard that all etailers should strive to be at the same level. None are even close, and I sincerely mean that. I haven't purchased a pair of shoes from anyplace other than Zappos. The only comment I have is that your selection is so large that it is sometimes difficult to make a decision; an envious position to be in. | | ~ Chuck B., August 04 2008
