Best shoes ever!
If you get the right size, they are the best shoes ever! Make sure that you buy a half a size bigger and your feet will be happy!

AGONY! After wearing for awhile, joints ache!
I agree with those who said tough to cram your foot in due to attached tongue but once I got them on, fit felt fine. A bit snug perhaps. After wearing them for a simple 1/2 hr dog walk, I WAS IN AGONY! I've had knee and great toe reconstruction and each step was excruciating. Sure, they're waterproof, but they felt quite heavy and stiff.

Great traction, but too hot -
Ok, I'll admit I was initially attracted to this shoe because of its appearance, but after my first run on the trail, I was impressed with the confidence I felt while on slippery, muddy trails. I did find that my heel slid about the rear of the shoe, but I have very slim feet to begin with, so be aware. Also, while I love the Gore-Tex, my foot got really hot when the temperature was above 50 or so. Perhaps I need to step in more puddles!

Very tight -
As many other people have explained, these are really hard to slip on, since the tongue is part of the main shoe body and the heel is stiff. Also, I'm a reliable 10, and in this size, my toes were butting right up against the front of the toe box. Definitely order at least 1/2 size larger. For me, though, I need something that's less of a struggle to put on each day, so they're going back.

Great shoes -
I wear these shoes to walk on city streets and sidewalks, as well as our local nature trails. I also think they look good enough to wear around town when conditions are sloppy. They were comfortable from the very beginning, and I love being able to trudge through the wet with no worries and good traction. It takes a shove to get them on, but it's well worth it for the glove-like fit and protection. I also appreciate the roomy toe box.

Good hiking shoe!
I use this shoe for hiking; it is very stable and has a "grippy" sole!
It also has a nicely fitting heel--my heel doesn't slip up and down; the toe box is wide enough that my toes don't feel cramped.

Great looking but..
This is a very nice looking shoe, but the tongue is attached to the rest of the shoe and makes it very tough to cram your foot in there, so they're going back to Zappos. Also, order at least 1/2 size larger... these felt very tight.

Great shoe, great service -
Terrific shoe- I have a pair of Java GTXs from a couple of years ago that I've worn to death, but I much prefer this model over the current version of the Java. Very sleek profile-- looks and feels like a regular sneaker-- not at all bulky. The fit is comfortably snug, which makes putting on the shoe a little tricky. The flat laces stay tied really well. Roomy toebox. Clean off well. And, as always, fantastic service from Zappos.

My Latest Hiking Walking Shoes -
I bought these to improve my tread after slipping on ice wearing regular walking shoes. They proved good for hiking too as they are more lightweight than my leather shoes. I have narrow feet with a high arch and instep, so need a shoe horn to get the shoes on, because of the built-in tongue. Initially they fit so tight that I couldn't adjust my socks. But they loosened up a bit and fit perfectly now, like a glove, and they are my favorite hiking/walking shoes. I haven't had occasion to test their waterproofing.

Overall, a pretty decent waterproof walking shoe -
I've had a pair of these for about a year. I've walked in them extensively, and they've held up pretty well and kept my feet dry until recently -- now the waterproofing has finally given out. Not bad. The only other complaint is that the construction is stiff, so it's a little hard to get the shoe on. Still, overall not a bad shoe.

Fantastic -
I love these shoes. They are great for a walk or run on pavement or terrain, and the best part is they are waterproof.

These are great!!
They are one of the most comfortable shoes I have worn. They fit like a glove, except it is on the foot. Lots of cushioning, feels good when a person has to be on their feet all day, either in hiking, or a job.

Great!
I bought these for a hiking trip, and they served me well. My feet felt good after hiking all day, and without any breaking in. I found them to be true to size, with enough extra room for thick socks.

Montrail Hurricane Ridge -
I can't believe an ultra marathoner wears these, I didn't find them very comfortable. They run big so take the advice and downsize. They look good but I'm going to stick to my Asics Gel Kayano for running.

Awesome shoe!
I absolutely love this shoe! This is my second pair and I am very pleased with the fit. I really like the way they lace up tight if you want and they don't seem to slip loose during a run. I also love the traction and the waterproof feature for the winter when there's snow on the roads.

I run 20 to 30 miles a week and these shoes are tough, plus they wash up great.

Mad cool -
I've always hesitated about ordering shoes online because I am very picky! I took a chance with this shoe and I am amazed at how comfortable they are! They required no breaking in whatsoever. They look very cool also. PS. They arrived FAST, so kudos to Zappos.com!

Montrail Hurricane Ridge XCR -
The Montrail Hurricane Ridge is hands down the best trail shoe I have ever worn. Having tried trail shoes from New Balance, Adidas, Nike in recent years and having been unhappy with all of them, I was so relieved to discover the Hurricane Ridge. I have a fairly narrow foot, a high arch and problems with my knees. This shoe provides great support and cushioning; it is the only trail shoe I've ever tried that is sturdy enough to take the tough trails but still provide the cushion my knees and high arches require. I am on my third pair and will keep buying them for as long as Montrail makes them!! One thing to note, they run slightly larger than your average running shoe. I have always worn a 6.5 in any and all running shoes and I have to go down to a 6 in Montrails (this as well as other styles).

Montrail Hurrican Ridge -
These shoes are great that they take a beating, are light weight, and fit very comfortably. I thought they looked a little strange at first, but they grew on me. They stay dry, and don't get overheated. excellent.

Great trail and around town shoes -
These shoes can go from the trail to the pavement. They are light, water-proof, breathable, and very comfortable. I have very high arches and they provide excellent support without putting in my inserts. You can always pull out their inserts and put in yours if you want though. The only thing I warn those with a high arch is that these are a bit difficult to get on the first few times but once you get your foot into the shoe, they stay put and are not tight at all. And Im happy with the red color.
