Here's my story and why I love these Drews. I have a terrible time finding shoes that fit. I have wide feet (at least 6E), a high instep, and custom orthotics. Until the Drews came along, I was suffering with New Balance sneakers that come in 6E and with SAS "double wides", what my wife called The Frankenstein Shoes. In order to do that I had to remove their cushion insoles, so it was like walking on cement all the time, but it was better than going barefoot, especially to business meetings in my suit. So to recap, up until recently The Human Race only made two shoes that would fit me off the shelf. The arrival of the Drew Travelers changed how I walk. I can put my custom orthotics in without talking out either of their two cushion insoles. So they are very deep. Even with 3 levels of insoles (custom orthotics and 2 cushions) my heels don't slip out the back and I can wiggle my toes. The extra depth means that the width is not "used up" accommodating my high instep. They have a straight, flat last which means that the orthotics sit flat in the shoe. The sole is one huge shock absorber and the shoe is lightweight. If you are attracted to this shoe and can afford two pairs at once, you must also get the Drew Surge, which is their sneaker, and what I'm wearing right now. One more point. For the first time in years, I'm not wearing very ugly shoes. The black leather version of the Traveler looks dressy enough for me, and the brown nubuck looks great with jeans. Even my kids commented that the Surge sneakers looked good. Also: Get this. In the Surge sneakers, I can jog for the first time in 10 years. By the way: If width or depth is an issue for you, I also tried out the Drew Force and the Drew Arlington, but returned them as they aren't as deep through the instep. Stick with the Traveler and Surge.

For 2 years, I have tried to find shoes that I could wear with a suit. My Hellux Rigidus has caused me to be unable to wear almost anything but sneakers. I need a large toe box that would not put pressure on my big toe. No other shoe has been comfortable for me until the Drew Traveler. I used to limp from the pain unless I wore the Drew Thunder sneakers, which are very comfortable for me, but wearing sneakers with a suit was not the fashion statement I care to make. This shoe has enabled me to be comfortable without looking silly in a dark suit with white sneakers. Finally I have foot comfort with dressy shoes that make my feet comfortable. Thank you Zappos!

These run a full size large. And I agree with two other reviews; one stated the tongue was too long. I found that out by having the tongue dig into my ankle. Another stated that the hook eyelets will break in time if laced tightly. I also agree on this. Drew needs to shorten the tongue and put in regular eyelets and they would have a decent shoe.

Loved the shoe except the tongue is too long. For example, the tongue-to-heel distance on a New Balance is about 3-1/2", so the hole your ankle fits into is an oval. The Drew is about 3" tongue-to-heel, so your ankle has to fit into a round hole instead of an oval. Tongue rides up into the ankle uncomfortably. So the shoes went back and I am back to New Balance. Seems silly that the folks that build an otherwise really nice shoe would mess up just one detail that makes an otherwise really nice shoe unwearable.

I got these and the squeak is so bad that they are going into the garbage. I wore them out side so I can not return them. A total waist of money.

My husband has small, but very wide, feet - 8 1/2 6E. It is hard to find shoes for him, and after six back surgeries, finding sturdy and comfortable shoes is difficult. This shoe has proven to be excellent. I have purchased this shoe twice before and have been pleased. He doesn't complain about his feet burning on the bottoms, like he does with other shoes and it keeps his feet dry. He can also stand on his feet longer, too. I will purchase this again and again.

Nice roomy shoe for my big feet. They lasted me about 1 year. The shoe still looks in good shape and the bottoms arent worn much either. My only complaint is I like to tie my shoes nice and tight so shoes with loops or hooks for the laces always break. If these had sturdy grommet holes for the laces they would definitely be my shoe of choice.

Rather bulky, too much shoe, stiff, not enough comfort -
Top end of extended padded tongue digs into your leg and is annoying. Will be returned. Low end materials.

Drew Traveler-lace up -
I'm still trying it out indoors, just in case I need a wider size, but so far I like it. Been wearing Drew since way back when they were still made in U.S.A., and they outlast just about everything else. Excellent accommodation for bulky orthotics, and a last that just seems to suit my feet and gait. Of course, Zappos service continues to amaze and impress.

The Fantastic Traveler -
First impressions of the Drew Traveler. I purchased the black leather Traveler. The look and feel of the leather is soft and supple. This is the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn! The entire inside of the shoe is exquisitely cushioned. The cushiony insole is somewhat firm yet soft and yielding, but not in a squishy fashion. The shoe fit is 100% accurate, with plenty of room in the toe box. Initially I got the Traveler for work but due to its extreme comfort I wear them for all occasions. I plan to purchase another pair of Drew shoes. I highly recommend the Traveler. Zappos.com is second to none, with hassle free service and free overnight shipping. Zappos.com gets my highest recommendation as well.

Drew Traveler -
I've had the Travelers for 3 weeks now. To be honest I was a little disappointed in the Drew Traveler. I am 49 and until last year never had any foot problems. Now I have tendonitis in my left ankle, caused I'm told, by over-supination of my foot, and plantar fasciitis in the right foot. I have one pair of cheap shoes from a giant box-store retailer that do not aggravate the tendonitis but do aggravate the plantar fasciitis. All my other shoes don't hurt the PF in my right foot, but do aggravate the left. I was really hoping the Travelers would solve both problems, but they don't. I still have to use a prescription orthotic in the left and an OTC insert on the right and then the shoes are fairly comfortable. Also the soles are extremely slippery on carpet. So much so that they are a hazard going down carpeted stairs and they squeak like crazy on tile. For this price I shouldn't need an orthotic to be able to wear them. Probably would be quite comfy if I didn't have these problems, but that's why I'm buying shoes advertised to orthopedic. Zappos was a pleasure to do business with. The customer service rep spoke English, was friendly, professional and personable. Shipping was overnight. I would definitely recommend Zappos.

Great shoe!
I'm on concrete for 12 hours a day and these shoes work for me. Great support feet, legs, and back.

Very comfortable shoe -
Bought the Drew and Rockport walker. Drew was more comfortable and cushioned. Rockport is a much lighter shoe. Both shoes accommodate orthotics and are easy on the heel (especially if you have feet problems). I think Drew is too heavy for a summer shoe, but will be great in fall winter, since it is weather proof. Using the Rockport this summer as they are really much lighter!

Most comfortable shoe I have purchased!!!
I have a very wide foot and require a shoe to accommodate orthotics; this shoe fits the bill!!! The two inserts that come with shoes make it feel like you are walking on air!!! I highly recommend these shoes!!!

 | | I just called Zappos to ask questions about shoe width (I need a wider size) and a rep helped me to find some boots that come in wide sizes, of which I ordered two pair. She was very helpful and friendly, and also upgraded me to VIP status. I'm THRILLED that my order will come tomorrow! And my return will be sped up as well. Thanks to the rep for doing a great job! She deserves a raise! Or at least a token of appreciation of some sort...take her out to lunch? Sincerely, Beth T. | | ~ Beth T., October 12 2009
