Great Boot -
I live up in Northern Maine. We had 193 inches of snow last year. These boots are the best around. They lasted through everything I could throw at them. The plowing, shoveling, snowblowing and snowshoeing were no problem for this boot! Kept my feet warm and dry. They are ready for another winter.

Still the best - good width fit -
I don't hike, but use this shoe for my general walking around town, dog park etc. VERY comfortable. I have slightly narrow feet and this boot is fine. I can wear other boots, but some (not all) of them fit a bit a wide
but not so wide as not to wear them. So, if you have wide feet, the boot might (?) be tight.

Good shoe for wide feet.
It is difficult to find hiking boots for my wide feet. These shoes are comfortable and are holding up well. I have only logged about 30 trail miles on 4 day hikes, but the shoes are already broken in and feel good on my feet. The only drawback is that I would like better arch support.

Very comfortable -
Tried numerous leather waterproof boots medium-to-light. Montrail Torre GTX Classic was by far the most comfortable, has a great feel to it immediately. Now, after a month of breaking it in, I would highly recommend it. My fit was measured at the hiking store as very narrow, but I bought a medium width, so maybe the boot is narrower?

GTX Wide review -
Very supportive shoe. comfortable. Excellent box width. Needed thicker insole due to too much top to bottom room in the forefoot area.

Great Boots -
This is the third pair of Montrail GTX that I have owned in the last seven years. I love these boots. They have great ankle and heel support. They are waterproof, and very warm. I can't say enough good things about them.

Comfortable hiker -
For my foot, this hiker is perfect. I have been wearing them to walk my dogs for the past couple of weeks to break them in, but I do not know if they even would need it. I have had no hot spots, but to be honest I haven't hiked more than a couple of miles at one time in them yet.

A hefty boot -
This is a very well-made boot, heavier and stiffer than those I've used in recent years. It is a great boot for light mountaineering and off-trail backpacking, but overkill for most on-trail use. It is about as comfortable as such a stiff boot can be - fair to good.

Construction and fit -
The boot is available in a Wide size. The wide in my normal shoe size works fine but is a little snug around the ball of the foot but not too bad. The wide size is probably a size E due I would guess due to the formed construction on the toe and rand of the boot. I doubt the boot will relax much around the ball of my foot for this reason. However this is one of the reasons this boot is such a good boot. Well constructed and trail ready. Very high quality including the polished cast shoe lace hardware. I see my shoe laces lasting twice as long due to the slick construction of the lacing hardware. The third lace down from the top of the boot has a low profile polished lace hook. This hook in lew of other type of lace hardware makes it much easier to get my big foot in and out of the boot as the top three lace hooks allow for the top of the boot to be wide open when taking the boot on or off in no time. The added bonus is the trail proven true hard and wide lugged Vibram soul. A very hard to beat combination. The Arch support and padding within the boot are excellent. I wear this boot summer and winter with a heavy class 3 packing sock. The only thing I do different in the summer is to spray my feet with anti-perspirant prior to putting on my sock. By the way the fit I described on the boot is with a wide foot and a class 3 heavy backpacking synthetic sock. This boot is an excellent boot and if these things ever wear out I will be purchasing another pair. This boot is trail worthy and for those who travel the back country without trails this is also the boot for you. Tony.

Very nice after customization -
I have a narrow heel with an otherwise somewhat wide foot. In order to avoid heel slippage, this boot required stretching on both sides of the toe area. Boots have held up well and shrugged off sharp rocks and extensive mud. Buy again? I might try to find a roomier toe area, but over the years I've never found that without heel slipping.

Suggestion on picking size -
The Montrail Torre GTX Classics are extremely well made, very suitable to use as work boots, which I do. I work on irregular terrain lifting heavy objects. To avoid injury, ankle support is crucial and the Torres have it--plus great traction.
Can't say enough for Zappos excellent service.
Be careful about selecting size. I have short, wide feet, and normally chose size 7 1/2--a bit snug before break-in; but necessary to end up with the tight ankle support as mentioned. The Torres claim to have a wide size, which I ordered and received. It isn't really wide. And, the very well built toe doesn't stretch much. So my toes are a bit squeezed. Little by little the Torres are gradually conforming with wear; but it will take a long time.
Bottom line, they are the best I've had for the job by far compared to Timberland and Dunhams. Go for the Torres; but think big if you're borderline. I probably should have ordered size 8. Could have easily exchanged with Zappos great return policy; but chose to endure a longer break-in for the better ankle support.
Great shoes!

My favorite hiking boots -
I like these boots so much that I bought a second pair to put on the shelf just in case they stop making them. Fit is perfect for my average width/narrow heel foot. Gore-Tex makes them waterproof for a 5 day hike in the rain. I added Superfeet insoles for more arch support.

OH MY!!!
These are without a doubt the best hiking boot I've ever worn. I'm a big heavy guy and rarely find a good quality vibram and gortex boot in my width. These fit the bill 110%. Right out of the box, the fit was great. After breaking in, they are still one of the most comfortable pieces of footwear I own. Took them on a heavy duty backpacking trip and they were flawless.

Montrail Torre GTX Classic -
Bought both the Torre and the Traverse GTX, the Torre was much more comfortable, the synthetic was stiffer and would definitely take some breaking in. Kept the Torre.

Torre GTX Wide -
I'm sure this is a fine boot, just not wide enough for my super-wide forefoot. I wear a New Balance men's sz7 4E walking/running shoe, 2E or "wide" sizes just arent wide enough for me. I had read a review elsewhere highly recommending the Torre GTX size WIDE for extra wide feet that are not extra wide in the heel, thought I would give it a try... I do a lot of off-trail backpacking over rough terrain; wish I could find a boot that didn't kill my feet! This boot looks and feels well-made and sturdy--Montrail is an actual hiking boot brand as opposed to city-wear so-called "hiking boots," and this wide size probably is wider than average, but is not extra-wide. (Real hiking boot=NOT cushy/comfy!--more like firm/rigid, with a good stiff sole).

Not for me -
I bought these boots a year ago and wore them around the house to break them in, after getting professionally fitted. They felt great in the store and around the house, but once on the trail they were oh so painful. I added superfeet insoles and wore a liner sock with a smartwool midweight sock. The problem I had with these boots was heel rub. My heel is very narrow and these boots just didn't work out for me, but my foot is different than yours so they may work. Another problem I had was how they held up. I took them on a backpacking trip and hiked 12 miles each day for two days and the rubber toe cap started to come off and the leather got a big gash on one side. I think these boots are more of a light hiker with the weight of a heavy backpacking boot. Not my favorite but maybe they will work for you.

A boot worth the money...
Most comfortable boot I've ever owned. Needed them for a 10 day hiking trip in the Tetons. Highly recommend them to anyone, especially someone who doesn't wear boots on a regular basis.

Fit like a glove -
These are the best boots I've had in 10 years. They fit perfectly the first time I put them on, and 1.5 years later still fit like a glove. I'm tempted to buy a 2nd pair to have ready if/when these wear out (probably years from now). My only complaint is that the gore-tex didn't make it to my second winter, so I can't wade through the slush anymore. But since the outers are all leather, I think I can fix that with externally applied water repellent.

Follow-up from Granada Hills...
Hubby ended up breaking these in after all, since every other pair/brand he tried was less comfortable than this one. After 3 full days of wear, and a local day hike, he was confident enough about the fit and comfort to go for a 5 day Grand Canyon backpacking trip wearing these. The boots performed well on the trip. They did get a bit scraped up, but that's to be expected.

I purchased these boots for my hubby for an upcoming Grand Canyon backpacking trip. He liked the boots at first, but after wearing them a 1/2 hour or so, his feet started to burn. Apparently they are a bit tight for him. He had similar problems with several other brands, so the problem may be more his feet than the boots. I like the looks of these boots, and they appear to be well built to support your feet during a multi-day hiking trip. Unfortunately, we'll have to send these back, but we really appreciate Zappos' excellent customer service.

The best hiking boot that I have ever owned! I shopped for many weeks looking for the best fit for my foot (9.5 mens us) and tried on many different styles and price ranges. These were the most comfortable. I have now logged about 40 miles of trail and weekend walking and the feel even better!

Montrail Torre -
Loved these boots out of the box. The way it should be. I punished these boots over two years daily, water, snow, ice, mud, loose rock and they took it. The only problem I had was the rubber toe band split on the edge on both boots where the rubber is bonded to the boot. I personally think its a design flaw. The band is cut right where the crease is on the boot. Other than that no problems.

A Substantial Backpacking/Hiking Boot -
The Montrail Torre GTXs are the first substantial backpacking/hiking boots I have purchased. Previously I have used a couple of different Hi-Tech models. I am more than satisfied as to the performance of the Montrail Torre GTX boot. After a brief break-in period, I wore these boots on a four-day backpacking trip into Californias Desolation Wilderness. My packed weight was 42 lbs. These boots kept my feet comfortable and dry. Its the first time I didnt feel the need to take off my boots as soon as I arrived at my destination. I tested the Gore-Tex by standing in water up to the fifth eyelet. These boots did not let in a drop of water. Hiking through the Desolation Wilderness subjects your boots and your feet to uneven terrain and jagged rocks. The Vibram soles insured my feet stayed comfortable and did well sticking to smooth rock surfaces. Another nice feature is the rubber protection around the toe box.
If I had to find fault in these boots I would say the Nubuck is a little fragile, as I did gouge it on a rock. After cleaning and re-waterproofing with Nikwax, I believe they are going to be fine. If these boots are a good fit for you I highly recommend them.
