A Classic In Durability -
These shoes were a replacement for a pair I bought before. These things are durable and comfortable once broke in. For the first month they can be hard on the heels til they soften up. I wish they made these in half sizes for a little extra comfort, since the next size up was way too large. I think it's a great shoe with its only fault being the break-in period. They seem to last a long time.

Wherever it's made, still a great shoe.
Comfy, sturdy...seems like the ones I used to buy back in the 90s. LOVE the black topstitching. Once you reach 40, that yellow is a bit much! Thanks Zappos for your great service.

The King -
I love these shoes. I am 52 years old. I used to be a Bassist in a rock band and bought my first Docs early in life. Since then I have never looked back. They are truly a hard wearing shoe, and various styles allow you to choose your own image. I bought these 1461 in black stitch. A happy medium between the simple no stitch work style and the yellow stitch. If you have never owned a pair of Docs, you are missing out. I only hope that Doc Marten maintains their quality as the rest of the world moves to economy versions of their shoes.

Casual & comfortable shoe for work & play -
I have been wearing Docs for going on 20 years now. I have found them to be both extremely comfortable & durable. The 1461 Dr. Marten shoe is another Doc model that I have found to fall into those two categories. I am on my feet at work quite a bit and this shoe holds up to the extensive walking and standing I do on the job. The shoe is extremely comfortable once broken in and the shoe fits true to size. A comfortable classic in the Dr. Marten tradition.

Great shoes...
1461's are my everyday shoes. Once you break them in, youre set for yrs. I'm a cook and can be on my feet for 12+ hrs sometimes and my feet still feel good at the end of the night.

Love Them!
I bought these shoes for my husband for his 50th birthday. He absolutely loves them, and is very impressed with his first pair of Doc Martens. His only concern is that when the shoes are worn enough that he needs to polish them, the white stitching, which is a large part of the shoe, could turn black from the polish. I told him to email the company and see how to avoid this, other than just by being careful when polishing them. As these shoes will be worn for work at least three times a week, he's certain that they will be extremely durable, as opposed to cheaper versions of dress casual shoes. I love them...I think they're sexy! :)

These shoes start off hard in the heel, but other than that no complaints. I'm going to order them for decades!

One of thee best shoes ever!!!
A classic, original, and an overall amazing shoe. I can confidently say you won't find a better work shoe (unless you're looking for steel toe and are doing serious construction work). Great for people that are on their feet all day and the classic look of the 1461 is great looking. The only slight quip about them is that when you first start wearing them you might get a heel burn/blister, which other reviewers have mentioned, but that will fade shortly and after that the leather will soften and create a very nice fit for your foot. I have seen the made in England 1461's and seriously people are making too big of a deal about it. These do the job just fine. A really great shoe and I'm glad they still make them.

I am hard to fit on shoes--I tried on a pair of docs in a store and the fit nicely. These very cool stylish shoes look neat--however, the leather is so stiff that the top of my heel (where the shoe rubs) really sore!!!--As they say when the supermodels complain about their high heelsthats what Tylenol is for!

Ol' Whats 'is name -
I wanted a dressy shoe that had some "attitude", and comfortable enough to wear 14 hours at a time. These fit the role perfect! My first "Doc's", but not my last.

Longest lasting shoe -
After staining the yellow stitching and the sole black, this shoe works for dress and walking.
My last pair lasted for four years of heavy use and still looks presentable.

Boys shoes -
I love these shoes, but while I chose these for being the least clunky they are clunky. They are very much boys shoes. I think they are great. They are pretty comfortable, but since I don't have much opportunity to wear them they are not getting broken in quickly. They are solid and comfortable, but will take time to soften up some.

Used to be much better-when made in England -
I have now purchased two pairs of these exact Asia made Docs, and they are not even close to the same quality and feel of the English made shoes. The leather is much more stiff and does not last as long (2 years vs. 4+). Now I am searching for a replacement...as much as it pains me. I used to love these shoes, but now they just aren't the same as they were.

Best shoes in the world !
I first saw DR Martin shoes in England. That is when I my love for this product started over 35 years ago. I still have the brown oxfords. I have three other pairs. I find I can walk longer, better balance, no leg pain and they are smart looking. I have M.S. and my DR Martins are important to my every day tasks. Gotta love them.

Bad fit -
Well, I've had Doc's since the 80s. This was my first pair made in Asia and its been a year and they still are nothing like any of the other Doc's I've owned. I'm just about to toss them in the trash. The quality is not the same as it used to be. The shoes are stiff, the soles are terrible. Basically they look like middle age oxfords now. Too bad.

Chinese are Fine-ese by me -
I have read a lot about people's quality concerns now that the shoes are manufactured in China. I've found my recent pair of 1461 oxfords to be the same old wonderfully made and tough as hell shoes. Sure the leather is a bit stiff in week one, but you come to expect that from Docs. I used to get the 1461 original boots and cut off the top two eyelets, making them essentially chukka boots. Never owned a pair of oxfords before and I am really glad I have them now as they are perfect for work, but also great with jeans. Then again, I'm likely to wear them with shorts in the summer as well. Rock On!

Worth the Wait -
I bought my first pair of Doc Marten's 1461s from Zappos about four years ago. I recall that just prior to buying them I read a review that stated that they are a bit hard to break in. They were, but the short period of time to break them in is well worth it. I wear them mostly on the weekends. They are great for casual activities or just kickin' around. They are without a doubt the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever owned. Four years later and about the only thing you would notice about them is that the heels are wearing down. That's why I just ordered another pair. One word of caution. I broke in my shoes by walking around Baltimore's Inner Harbor for about six hours. Big mistake. To be honest, my feet hurt that night. Break them in slowly and you'll be back online ordering more from Zappos in a couple of years. You're gonna love 'em.

New shoes -
Great shoes. But Dr. Martens did not stick to their normal sizing schedule. Meaning, yes they use the UK sizing chart, but they also don't do half sizes. This time though...they changed it again. Buyer beware on these shoes that you might have to return them.

DMs are always cool.....
I ordered a pair with a wing-tipped design a few years ago, which I always wore, but am thrilled to have the classic oxfords again -- they go with everything! I only wish they came in half sizes. I am a 7.5 but, from experience with DMs, went with an 8 as I'd rather have the shoe be a little big, than mutilate my foot with a 7 waiting for it to stretch and break in. I think something is lost in the quality and it takes away from the authenticity of the shoe. Still, I love how they look and they are totally comfortable, if not a tad big. Definitely recommend them - they are the go-to shoe with jeans, slacks, or skirts.

Long lasting -
I bought these when they were the "Originals" back in 1993. They were discontinued I guess...
Anyway, I still have them, and wear them often; granted they've lost a bit of the soles, and there is a slight tear in the left heel, but come on!!!! They're 15 years old!

Good lookin shoe -
I liked the shoe very much in appearance and the size felt good overall. The only problem I have is trying to break in the back of the shoe where the leather comes in contact with the back of the heel or the Achilles tendon. Very painful. Other than that I am very satisfied with the shoe.

Really nice shoes -
I bought these shoes because I heard they were very durable and would last a long time. I had gone through several pairs of cheap shoes in the last year and wanted something that would last. So far I'm really impressed. These shoes are really well made. They're really nice looking too.
The first week was pretty rough. After a few days of agony I started putting shoe trees in them at night to try and stretch them out. That made big difference. Now they're really comfortable. I have no doubt these will last me a long time!
Zappos did a good job. I ordered on a Saturday, they shipped on Monday and I had them on Wednesday.

Sorry, Dr. Martens!
I don't know what's wrong with these shoes I bought, but they are extremely tight around the left front area of the left foot. I bought the same size I usually do in these sorts of shoes. Previous experience suggested I buy a slightly smaller size because I would get blisters with larger shoes always rubbing against my heel/ankle. I probably should have exchanged these shoes, but it is too late now! I have many pairs of Docs in various styles, and I must say these are the most uncomfortable ones I've ever owned.

That's why I'll always be a Zappos customer - and I tell everyone who tries to buy shoes at shoe warehouses that have lots of styles, but only a few sizes of each shoe (and somehow never the size you are looking for!) that they are crazy not to shop from home, peruse thousands of shoes organized to make shopping for any particular size or style easy, and have them delivered and returned at no cost!
