These shoes are great! The soles are so thick and soft, but sturdy, it's like walking on air. The only problem I had breaking them in was a huge blister on the back of my heel below my ankle, but pretty much all boots do this, so I wasn't too surprised. It took about a week of occasional wear, and now I'm wearing them all the time. I do recommend thick socks, though. I think the fact I wore thinner socks at first contributed to that blister. These shoes are also very cute. They make my feet look really tiny; not that I have big feet, but I tried a different style and they made my feet look HUGE. I really like the D-rings and the fact that the laces go down almost to the toe. A bit difficult to tighten the laces at first, 'til they're broken in and/or you get used to how the D-rings and hook are, but now it's easy. The color is a bit off-putting at first. I don't know why Doc Martens decided to make the toe so much lighter, especially when it seems the rest of the shoe color is the original color, if you know what I mean. It's like they had to do something to lighten the toe. Very weird. But a nice dark brown shoe dye, rubbed in, will pretty much get rid of the two-tone effect. The shoe has a distressed look to begin with, so if the dye doesn't cover fully, it's not noticeable. I also want to commend Zappos for such great customer service. A true delight when a lot of other sites can hide behind being an online merchant, ignore emails, and pretty much just be overall rude to their customers who are not quite satisfied. I had to return a pair of shoes and it was completely painless and the customer service reps were quick in their responses and exceedingly polite and nice about everything. Thank you Doc Martens and thank you Zappos.

Nice boot -
This is a nice fitting boot that will accommodate my heavy wool socks as well as lighter socks for warmer days. It seems to me that the soles used to be a little more springy, but they still perform well. A word of caution, these soles will harden up and become slick if out shoveling snow in these boots. Be careful when moving from snow to hard slick surfaces like concrete.

I just bought my second pair of these. My first pair is at least 8 years old and was made in England and still going strong. I only wear Dr. Martins now and have 7 pair. Every one of them has a distinctive look and is comfortable and durable. The leather is soft on these boots so they mark easily but they rub out and after a while a bit of polish makes them good as new. I don't think that these boots are really rugged enough for hard work boots or hiking. I would buy one of their more rugged models for that. I wear them with jeans and khakis at the office and walk on concrete aircraft parking ramps all day. The soles wear well and the shoes are comfortable all day. My 8+ year old pair still has good tread.

Old lady and her docs -
This is my third or fourth pair (who can remember, I'm old) of Doc's and have been happy with all. This pair is probably my fav as far as looks go. Should have bought a smaller size though. They are very comfy but would not use as a hiker, I prefer a bit less weight on the uphill. For everyday casual, yes, you bet I would do a recommend. Could not be happier with Zappos service, delivery was super prompt and product was well packaged. Good job...gotta go...there are shoes to buy.

Great boot for Construction business -
I'm on my feet for at least 12 hours every day...been wearing these boots for over 10 years now and wouldn’t buy any different...you can put them on right out of the box with no break in period...comfortable, and great for the feet!...and overnight delivery from Zappos can't be beat

The DM 9728's are my 4th pair I own. I’m a UPS driver and need comfort and support throughout my day and the DM 9728's give me that from day 1! I also have a pair for home too. They need no break in period. They’re comfy right out the box. I highly recommend them.

Docs that fit -
Great style, felt good when ordered a size larger. Most Docs feel tight in the toe box, but did not have this problem with these.

The first pair I had lasted for like eight years before the back leather finally started getting holes in it. I love these boots. Rugged, sturdy, and put a little water treatment on them and your feet will never be wet.

These boots are stylish, very comfortable, and accommodate a wide foot. I normally wear a 10 in a shoe, but had to reorder a 9. They fit perfect.

I work in theater, and we aren't kind to our footware. These little puppies have lasted me nearly 5 years. I've honestly kicked the hell out of these and they show ware, but are still in great shape.

Cool shoes -
I'm the kind of person that would live barefoot if I could, however for my needs I had to get a solid shoe with super grip. These shoes are great! Surprisingly comfortable and what a grip on the asphalt, WOW.
They run a little big, I would normally wear a 7, but found that a 6 fit perfect.

Most uncomfortable shoes ever!!!
I bought these because everyone I know that has a pair says they are extremely comfortable. Little did I know that the only reason they were comfortable was because of expensive insoles. I've had these for over a year and they still are too stiff for me, and there is no cushioning in the insole. They look nice but other than that they are a waste of money.

This is the third pair of 9728's that I have had. Very comfortable, durable. I have very high arches and stand 10 hours a day, so I did buy some arch supports to put in. I waterproofed them as soon as they came, and wear them to work every day. Excellent boot!! They were a gift that I had asked for, and the shipping was awesome, they arrived in 2 days!!

Awesome Boot!
Zappos came through as always, these boots are great. I always have trouble breaking in new shoes, but as soon as I put these on they were so comfortable I didn't have to do anything.

Ultimate comfort -
I researched alot before purchasing these boots. The reviews online helped me make my final decision and I also went to a local merchant and tried on a pair so I would be sure to get the right size. Thank you Dr. Marten's for making the most comfortable boot I have worn in ten years. They fit correctly from the get go. The only problem I had was the fact that the leather was slightly discolored, but that gave them some character, so I don't really mind. I have become a Dr. Marten's devotee and I will buy all of my future pairs at Zappos.com.

We love the boots, the only reason for a lower comfort rating is because he is still wearing them in so they are a little snug. But they are brand new, they look great, and very inexpensive! Our experience with "Zappos.com" was beyond our expectations. Thanks Zappos!

What happened to Docs?
My wife has a pair of these made in England. They are the most comfortable shoes she's ever worn. So I got a pair. Mine were made in China. The soles are not the same and do not provide the all-day comfort for which Docs are famous. The leather is far inferior and do not feal as thick, as durable nor as comfortable as English-made Docs. My advice is stear clear of Chinese-made Docs.
