Out of control tongue -
I own 5 other pair of Salomon shoes. I love every single pair of them, but these shoes really miss the mark. The tongue is ridiculously over-sized. It sticks up too high and is in the way for very agile movements. In addition to the large tongue, the Velcro does not stay down so the laces are constantly flopping around. I do not use the tuck away because of that reason. The opening around the ankle gaps open and lets in all sorts of leaf and other debris. No matter how tightly pulled the laces are the ankle opening bends and sticks out uncomfortably.
Other than those issues, the fit is true to size and the shoe is overall comfortable. These are definitely getting returned though.

The Best Shoe Ever!!!
I needed a pair of durable, comfortable hiking shoes for a trip to Europe - no break in required. I wore them 10 of the 11 days we toured. These beat out my Keens as far as comfort goes! My daughter and I fight over them! I have a pair of Salomon hiking boots for riding my motorcycle and have been SO pleased with their comfort as well! Great company! These run at least a size big!

Great hiking boot -
Very comfortable, nice looking hiking boot. I was able to wear them for a 5+ mile hike right out of the box with no problems. Fabulous.

Great shoe, a quality Salomon -
I've purchased several Salomon sneakers- I typically love their quality, unusual look, and convenience (what I refer to as the quick zip- which is super practical).
This is a great shoe. Most shoes don't offer good arch support (the typical adidas, nice, Reebok) but I've noticed most Salomons do. And they don't typically (ran only into 1 pair of Salomon's that did) pinch feet or have seams that feel like they are bunched up in an odd place.
I usually love the funky sneakers they make, which usually at least consists of mesh on the tops. This one from looks stand point seems below par because it looks like a bootie, but that may be because of the fabric.
In these I had to get a 6, the 6.5 was a bit too big with the arch support not where it felt it should be- I had to pull my feet toward the back of the shoe/heel and then do a quick zip. In sneakers I typically am a 6.5 or 7. Salomon's typically a 6.5.
I've so far only used these for daily life- nothing out in the "field" yet. Again, great shoe.

Pretty good walking shoe -
I'm using this shoe on my treadmill. My athletic shoes were giving me blisters. No blisters with these and they are very light and comfortable. A little wide and the pull string to "tie" them is annoying, especially since you have to stuff the string into a slot under the top of the tongue and then flop the top over the clasp of the cord. Too much effort to "tie" the shoe.

Great trail shoe, other than my trail runners they are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn! When I first saw them on the shelf I though they looked a bit bulky, but knowing Salomon I had to try them on, and they feel lighter even than my trail runners! Incredible fit and comfort--they feel like you're walking barefoot through the woods. I love the way the laces hug my foot, and they're a flash to put on. I use them for both day hikes and backpacking in the Appalachians, and they give plenty of support for people who prefer comfort and flexibility over stiff support, and they are especially better than hiking in trail runners.
As for the soft shell fabric, I was a little concerned that it might not be as durable as Gore-Tex or any other waterproof material, but the salesperson said they're supposed to be very resistant to abrasion and I've seen that with my soft shell jacket, so I got them. They've proved to be pretty water resistant, I've splashed through several streams just to test the resistance and I haven't gotten wet feet yet, but they haven't been exposed to extreme wet conditions. I did put a little hole through the shell tripping over a log a while ago (proves that the material is definitely not quite as strong as normal shoes but it's held up well other than that), and I was worried that it would let water in but it turns out there are two layers of the material and after tromping through 3 feet of snow and slush in Vermont for 8 hours my feet never once got wet.
Overall I've been very happy with this shoe, but I do think if I ever need a reliable waterproof shoe I will go with the Gore-Tex model (which I didn't know existed at the time), however if you prefer breathability over waterproofness, this shoe is as breathable as my mesh trailrunners!
Salomon makes a great shoe, I have owned 5 different pairs (including snowboard boots), and they are by far my favorite shoe company.

Moderate trail shoe -
This shoe is extremely comfortable, but for extreme trail runners this shoe has no water resistance. My toes were wet immediately.

Very comfortable shoes.
I try on hikers all the time, but most are way too stiff and need lots of break out time. These shoes are very comfortable right out of the box. Feel more like trail runners but too bulky to run in. They are not stiff shoes, so those who need lots of support need to buy something else. I recommend buying 1/2 size smaller. Things to be aware of: Shoelaces are not the "normal" tie kind. They are a wire with a slider type device at the top, which then tucks under the flap of the tongue. The tongue then velcros to the shoe. This is why some have complained the tongue is too big. It is bigger than the standard, but did not find it bothersome. Might be too much room at the top for narrow feet. The shoelace type can also keep you from tightening your shoes as much as you would like. Beyond these things, I love them and would buy another pair because of comfort.

No break in time required -
I bought these shoes for my 12 hour shifts as a nurse in a busy hospital. I have been very happy with my choice. I have had a pair of Salomon's in the past and wanted the same lacing system. I have been extremely happy with my choice and often use these shoes on my 4 mile walks in my off time as well. I come home tired from work but my feet are happy and not hurting.

Salomon soft shell -
I really liked these shoes but the tongue on them became very uncomfortable-irritating. It seems to be too bulky. My husband has a pair and he doesn't have the same issue, so it may just be that my foot is too narrow causing the tongue to bunch. Too bad because they look awesome and provide good cushioning, too bulky for running though.

Comfortable Lightweight Hiker -
This is a nice lightweight hiker for lightweight hikes. I am using it for walks in the woods and general daily use. I like the ease with which I can put them on and take them off. If you are a pronator you will not like the arch support. They look good with jeans.

My wife is very pleased with this hiking shoe. It fits her like a glove. This is her 4th pair of Salomon footwear and she has been very pleased with all of them. She tried on 6-8 other brands that were all uncomfortable. The first time she tried on this shoe, she was delighted.

 | | I just wanted to take the time to say, thank you very much! My recent purchase from your company was my first order, but will not be my last. I placed an order at approximately 10 PM on a Tuesday night and received my order at 2 PM the very next day. (I expected to wait 4-5 business days!) In this day and age of incompetence and lack luster performance, your company is a shinning example of what businesses should strive to be! Your hard work and dedication to customer service was not wasted on this customer! Thanks so much for a job well done! Respectfully, Ryan M. | | ~ Ryan M., September 14 2008
