Very Comfortable - This boot is very comfortable, but seems to run a little short. The traction is great, and seems to propel me forward. It is great for light hikes, scrambling over wet boulders, and longer day hikes. But next time I will get half a size larger.

One of the best shoes I have ever owned. If you have a bit wider feet, these shoes are god-send. I wore these for 1 year straight in Iraq on gravel roads and trails and they held up 100%. I was a defense contractor. The heat was 120 on some days and I would have thought the glue would have come off near the toe. No go. These shoes rock. I am ordering my second pair b/c Garmont just stopped making this model.

Well constructed - Sorry, this one didn't fit me. It's very well constructed with good ankle support and thick padding. I thought it would be the shoe for me, but after wearing it around the house for awhile, I realized there was pressure on the edge of my toes. The toe box has a curved shape, which probably works great if your foot is shaped that way. My 2nd and 3rd toe are longer than my big toe by a smidge and they were pressing up against the edge of the shoe. I might could have worn a half size bigger, but decided to keep the pair of Columbia Trail Meister Mid III that I'd ordered at the same time as the Kiowa. The Kiowa fit my size 9 AAA foot well except for the toe thing. Looked great, too. I was sorry to send it back. My advice is to look at the top view of the boot. If your foot's shape matches that, you're probably okay. Otherwise, I'd go up a half a size. If you need help choosing hikers, call Zappos’ Outdoor Specialists. Great help!

An approach shoe that you can spend a whole trip in. Very comfortable for hiking and performs great on rocks. Try them on first. Garmont shoes are unique; most people love them or hate them. It depends on the shape of your feet.

Garmonts Eclipse II XCR - I have had this pair of shoes for about a month now and I have to say that right out of the box it has been a great shoe. It has been snowing and raining here where I live and I also walk a lot at my job and this style shoe has preformed great. No problems with the moisture or being uncomfortable. Very light weight and also is a good looking shoe. Thanks.

Amazing Shoe - I have had a pair of these shoes for about 1.5 years now and I am just now thinking of replacing them. I use them for everything. Around town, day hikes, and backpacking trips. Couldn't be a more versatile, lightweight, do anything shoe. The heel shape is slightly rounded which allows your foot almost always land at an appropriate angle to the ground no matter what the footing is like. It has a large toe box but a snug fit. The laces never shift and it bends in all the right places. The only drawback here is that it's not waterproof. I found a nice nylon waterproofing agent (make sure to find one that will still allow the shoe to breath, or you'll hate yourself) and then the shoes are a dream!! You'll never want anything else on your feet!

Wears poorly, fits poorly - VERY narrow and undersized. I walk 8-10 miles/day with my dogs and these shoes which I have worn for one month have already started to fall apart, both inside and out. The water-resistant quality does not exist; a few hours of walking in 2" snow will have your feet wet.

I have very high arches and it is hard for me to find a shoe with enough arch support. This shoe has great arch support! Problem is they are too big in the front area and my feet slide around in them. I am normally a true size 8.5 but in this shoe I would have gone with an 8 or even a 7.5. They feel a little clunky when I walk but that's probably due to the fact that they are too big for me. I will likely try something different next time or get these in a size smaller.

A Mid Hiker that feels like a Slipper! The Kiowa is extremely light and feels like you have on a pair of “slippers." Once you put them on you almost forget you are wearing Hikers. They are very comfortable. I've not worn them out on the trail so I can only respond to my experience with them as everyday footwear.

Update - I just wanted to give an update with regard to these extremely comfortable boots. At first glance one would think they are stiff and would need to be broken-in to be comfortable especially as everyday winter footwear which is what I have worn them for. I find that after I put them on I tend to forget I even have them on and for me that's a good thing with my bad knees. They certainly feel as sturdy as when new and I have found that even with now over 90 pairs of boots I reach for them more times then I normally should ( I'm a collector ). I try to wear all my boots at least once during the winter but I have worn these probably 5 times since I got them. I can even see wearing them some in the warmer months here in Ohio. You might not like the color combo but I bet you'll like the fit!

Bomb proof shoe… Love these guys. I have had the same pair now for almost 1 ˝ years & they are still going strong. Use them in a mix of around town & on fast backpacking/hiking. Also great in snow & slick trails. I used these on a 56 mile non-stop hike across the Olympic Peninsula & worked like a dream. Toe box is big enough to allow some swelling, but still very comfortable. Only complaint – they do not drain water well. If you do a stream crossing, you will need to stop & drain water.

I Love These Shoes - These shoes have excellent arch support. They are also well made and provide tremendous stability on the trail. I have gone through 3 pairs of these shoes in the past 5 years. They are also comfortable to wear everyday. I work in a casual office environment, which requires occasional trips to a warehouse and these shoes are on my feet nearly everyday.

Nice shoe but fall apart - I love these shoes but they seemed to fall apart after only 6 months. The plastic in the soles broke and the foam is taking on water making a squishing sound when I walk. The rubber toe is also coming unglued. I want another pair though because of looks and comfort.

Garmont Eclipse II XCR - Nice shoes, love the look and performance. However, this is my second pair, after loving the first, older model, and I went with the Gore-Tex this time. The soles almost immediately started falling off. Soft foam attaches the rubber soles, and it does not hold. Gore-Tex shoes and my feet are constantly damp in the Seattle rain! GRRRR!

Comfortable as they are colorful - I was pleasantly surprised when I took these boots out of the box and put them on. They were just right as far as fit, especially when I removed the original insoles and replaced them w/ my favorite New Balance Pressure Relief Performance insoles w/ an extra deep heel cup. The insoles have Poron material which I have found to be the most comfortable insole for me. They make these boots feel like "slippers". I wear size 13 1/2-14 and have a narrow/medium foot so I ordered 14s and even though the insoles I use take up some space , the boots still fit perfect w/ medium Merino wool socks. (I am not saying this for any other reason than to lend validity to what I have said, but) I currently own 83 pairs of Hiking/Trekking boots and even though I now have Bilateral Osteo Arthritis of the knees and can't hike , these boots make great everyday footwear especially in Winter. The mid-sole really isn't all that rigid so you can walk in them w/ relative ease.

Very nice shoe. They are "lighter" than they look too. Shoe is very comfortable. Was a bit stiff out of the box as others have noted. They do loosen up with wear. I'm an 11.5 or 12...got an 11.5. They fit perfect. ZAPPOS is unbelievable. They matched a lower price and I got the shoes the next day. Returned a size 11 for the 11.5 and again ZAPPOS is the best. Return was simple.

Fantastic winter walker. My husband bought a pair of these before a recent trip which involved some hiking as well as city walking. He raved about them, and when we got home I bought a pair. Completely comfortable out of the box, sturdy, and waterproof, these will be my winter walking shoe. My only complaint is the color--I like it, but it is light. I would have preferred a darker color.

Flawless after 3 weeks - The shoe felt a bit stiff/cramped straight out of the box, but, after 1 day's use, the shoe conformed completely to my foot. Very comfortable and supportive overall. And, after 3 weeks of everyday use, still odorless (that's rare for my shoes)!

Best Hiking Shoe Ever! Even though I've broken my left foot twice and am currently recovering from a serious sprain, this shoe is amazingly comfortable and supportive! I never though I'd be comfortable wearing shoes again after so many injuries, but this shoe fit perfectly right out of the box. I bought a half size smaller, based on past recommendation, and it fits great even with thick wool socks. I am very pleased. Garmont surely knows foot technology! I'm ready to hit the trails again!
