Very comfortable...poor construction -
I bought these shoes to wear at work (construction supervisor). I thought that since they were a trail running shoe they would be somewhat durable. After only 2 days of walking around construction sites the sole started coming apart and the "swoosh on the side started to peel away where my toes bend. This was very disappointing as the shoe is extremely comfortable and breathable. I will be returning these and exchanging for a pair of North Face Hedgehogs.

A sturdy little shoe for more serious hiking.
The Vasque Mantra is a nice step up from other so-called trail-running shoes. It has a real Vibram sole and a supportive Nubuck upper for better traction and stability on more challenging, steep or rocky trails. The shoe is built on a straight last - which is great for those of us who do not have curved feet to match a lot of the other shoes on the market - and has a roomy toe box that eliminates pinching on the little toe, especially going downhill. It will also accommodate orthotics. I'm not sure whether it is waterproof (it's not a Gore-Tex lined shoe), but it is definitely a great choice for serious day-hiking or backpacking in dry conditions.

Worth resoling -
Bar none, these are the best boots I've worn in the past 30 years. They fit right out of the box, they've never leaked, and they've never given me blisters. They breathe like no other boot I've ever worn. When I wore out the soles (after eighteen hard months), I had them resoled (Resole America, and I don't work there or know anyone there either, in case you're wondering) and they're like new. I will definitely buy another pair. Maybe two.

Best Trail Running Shoe -
I have been using the Vasque Blurs for about two years. It is a favorite of many "Trail Nerds". I run almost exclusively trails. After I bought my first pair I have worn no other. I currently have five pairs that I rotate. The orange blaze trim on this shoe looks great and highlights the shoe well. This is by far my favorite color.

Great shoe while it lasted -
I used these to hike up and then run down my local ski hill. The slope is blue/black ski run, so pretty steep. The trail was very rocky. I loved how airy these shoes were, but the mesh started ripping on rocks or twigs sticking out in the way. After that point I had to stop running in them as the shoes would fill with rocks. But it took a few months to get that way. Also, some of the blue lug wears off (tears off) pretty quickly. But the main lug still remained. I loved these shoes, but wished they could have lasted longer.

Awesome Shoes -
Vasque was recommended to me by a friend and I was very happy he did. I bought these shoes for a trip which we hiked about 30-40 miles. I could not have been happier with the comfort. I would strongly recommend these shoes.

Although this shoe fit well and has a rugged enough sole to prevent sliding on rocks, it has no cushioning. On the trail you could feel the rocks through the sole. I had pains in my feet and ankles that I never experienced with other trail shoes. I have changed the insoles but the cushioning is still insufficient. This is especially disappointing considering the cost of the shoe.

Husband states that it feels like he's walking on air. He works in a rough terrain and his shoes truly makes a difference when it comes to getting the mission complete when he doesn't have to worry about his feet hurting. Blister of my LIFE -
Due the narrow toe thing, I got the WORST blister of my life on one foot. Is kinda too tight around toe box, not enough room and I’ve never had a problem with shoes before!

Great Hiker, especially for narrow heels -
I'm not a huge outdoors-y person, so when we decided to do a trip to hike in several national parks out west, I knew I needed appropriate footwear. I literally tried every major brand of hiking shoes and boots. These were the only ones that had a narrow enough heel that I wasn't losing the shoe when I walked.
I only had a few days to break them in, but on the trail it was no problem. Not a single blister, I didn't slip, and crossed through a stream 57 times (I was counting!) with dry feet throughout.

Great hiking shoe -
I brought these down to Torres del Paine in Chile and they did not disappoint. I did not break them in prior to my trip and had absolutely no problems. I hiked 50 miles in 4 days without a single blister or irritation. They proved to be the best boots I have ever bought on the last day when I hiked 6 hours in pouring rain and snow. My feet were absolutely dry and warm the entire time. I would absolutely recommend these. One note, they are more of a mid size shoe, so there is not a lot of ankle support. If you are prone to twisting, I would suggest a higher length.

I don't use the shoes for hiking, but I work outside on my feet all day. These were great right out of the box. I do wear a thin sock with them. I thought they looked too small when I took them out, but they weren’t. They make my feet look small though.

Trial by Fire -
Only had 2 days to break in before winter backpacking trip to Dolly Sods Wilderness, where the trails are rated "strenuous" and the winter weather can be harsh. During 4 days of daily highs of 10-15 degrees, 12" of fresh snow, multiple stream crossings, long & steep ascents/descents w/45 lb pack, and some bouldering, these boots performed beautifully! Not even a hint of a blister, completely waterproof, warm, and uber comfortable. Slightly unsure of the footing on slick surfaces, but it may only be the learning curve in learning to trust new boots. All in all, I am very impressed by these boots and can strongly recommend them.

Canyon Ranger -
The best period. Have you ever been to Palo Duro Canyon State Park? It is some of the ruggedest land you can encounter. I wore these for 5 years as a ranger there and still wear them occasionally as a snow and slush boot. Have since bought another pair and if they keep making them, will buy them again. In the canyon it can get to 120 degrees in summer and down to 10 below in the winter and these things never failed me. If you get them and they don't fit quite right, I have been told that Zappos will zap you another pair ‘til they get it right.

Great boots -
I am new at hiking and was advised to purchase this brand boot by some experienced hikers. I purchased a 1/2 size smaller than I usually wear and they fit perfectly. These boots are so easy to take on and off. I used them the first time this past weekend and I had no problems, no blisters, just a little stiff around the ankles but am assured by my friends that this will loosen up with wear. One of my hiking friends was wearing a pair of Vasque he has had for 13 yrs!! He won't wear anything else I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend them to anyone...even with my inexperience

Great boot - I wear these to read meters. Have been wading through deep snow and slush and so far completely waterproof. The leather is thick enough that abrasion from crusty snow is not a problem. I have used brown polish several times to clean up the abrasion wear. Very good on slipper ice also.

Great boot! This is my 5th pair. I wear them daily as a building inspector - inside, outside, on the roof, out in the field - great comfort. I can usually count on getting about 24 months of service before the soles wear to the point they need to be replaced. I have bought these boots on line before, but never used Zappos until this order. Great company to do business with! They communicated well via email every step of the process and while they promised delivery in 5-6 days, the boots were delivered the next day! Great service, great communications, and very competitive pricing. Will shop Zappos again!

These boots felt okay at first but over time I developed pain in the balls of my feet. I think it may be due to the low arches, whatever it was I had to send them back.

Great hiking boot!
These were comfortable right out of the box --and that is rarely true for my feet. I wore this on a hike across rough, uneven lava fields in Hawaii and the ankle support was great. They did not feel too heavy (and I am NOT a regular hiker) nor did they feel too hot.

Classic Old School Boot -
I've read the reviews that say the boot is poorly made, is uncomfortable, and fit poorly. I've owned this pair of boots for a week now, and they have not left my feet, except for sleep. I can say the following:
1. They fit fine. If you take a 12, then order a 12. Fit true to size.
2. Yes, they are uncomfortable for the 1st day or two. The leather is stiff and the boot does have to be broken in. I don't find this unusual.
3. The uppers are a single piece of leather, lined in Gortex (including the tongue), so unless the water comes over the top of the boot at the ankle, this boot is waterproof.
4. For those of you that wear orthodics, this boot has room for these plastic inserts.
My sense is that this boot will take another couple weeks to fully break in, and mold to my feet but it is a fine, well made boot.

Third Pair...
Previous editions were a little narrow, but my latest is right on the money! LOVE the Stealth rubber sole - it works well with the Gore-Tex for rainy day hiking. A little stiff, but relatively lightweight. Not a shoe, but not a clunky hiking boot either. I appreciate the muted color palette. This is the kind of footwear that I hope Vasque keeps in production - buy two pair now!!

If you're going to be doing deep woods backpacking on unmarked trails, you may want something more high-tech, but for everyday hikes, muddy trails, and the average weekend adventurer, this is the best boot you can buy.
