Since its inception in 1975, Asolo has gained an important worldwide leadership position in producing technical mountaineering shoes. The product range covers footwear from the most technical alpine demands to the more relaxed leisure activities line, permitting Asolo to be one of the few companies in the world to completely cover the outdoor area. More importantly, their footwear has conquered the most important mountains in the world with sponsored athletes JC Lafaille and Tomaz Humar.
Asolo’s goal is to create great footwear for all of your outdoor needs, in all conditions, at all altitudes: from light walking to hiking, from backpacking to the most treacherous climbing - whether it be on ice or mixed terrain. The footwear is designed around the foot; flexible, lightweight, and at the same time, highly resistant. Fit and performance are major strengths for this design. The breathable footwear is able to shock-absorb even on the toughest terrains, while keeping away humidity, water, and cold weather. The highly researched soles are constructed in such a way that they will prevent slips and falls on the most slippery of terrains.
Since the beginning, Asolo is connected with experiences and people who live for the mountain. Together with the brand, they test boots that have been developed for the alpine/mountaineering athletes and for all people who "live" the mountain with love and passion.

Amazing walking and light hiking shoe -
I backpacked for 9 months around Southeast Asia, Australia and South America, wearing this shoe most days, and some Chacos the rest of the time. My feet were NEVER sore, and we walked a lot. Not so cute, but that's not what I needed. I have a slightly narrow foot, and this fit well. What higher recommendation can I give?

Great fit right out of the box. Comfort was very good, until after 5 or 6 hours of hiking. Then they got a little hard. Has great grip and is water resistant.

Very Happy With These Boots -
I had never been on a real hike before a couple of weeks ago, so I had never owned quality hiking boots. I bought these because they felt the best when I tried them on in a local store. I hiked the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma for three days after breaking these in for 6 days, and did not have a single problem with my feet. The hike was a combination of dirt and pebble trails, boulders, climbing, etc., and the boots stayed comfortable. If I had to list one thing that could be improved, I might ask for a little more cushioning in the sole.

Still Breaking in -
I've worn these boots for a few weeks now, and bought them specifically to do hiking on wet, fairly flat, river bank trails. I wore them for a couple of weeks to break them in, and then went on my first 13 mile walk last week.
Sadly, the leather above the toe lost its finish within a few days of normal wear (I think I have my feet under my chair when I sit so the top of the toe is touching the floor). But that was cosmetic.
Happily, the boot is strong, and fits nicely. The toe is sturdy and the tread is deep. The laces are just fantastic in tightening. I'm looking for an insole after my first walk as the balls of my feet hurt. This is probably due to inadequate breaking in? Size was good, and I have a normal width foot. The color was a little different, but looking back at the image I see why I assumed they would be greyer. I ordered black.
Overall nice boot, and glad I forked out this much cash for it. My previous boots were Timberland and Caterpillar.

Outstanding -
This is a fantastic boot! These are my second pair of TPS 520's, they handle everything I can throw at them. From the wet and snowy winters here in West Virginia to the concrete and steel of the warehouse where I work, to the hiking of the summer months. A truly outstanding boot!

Looks good rubs ankles -
Looks good, good quality materials, rubs ankle bones, (I guess the shoe is cut high), not a light weight shoe, stiff at ball of foot which makes it want to slip on heels at first.

My favorite boots -
I'm 49 years old, 5'11", 185 lbs. These are the best boots I've ever owned. Bought them over a year ago after reading all the excellent reviews and trying many high end boots. My heels are prone to slip in most hiking boots, but the 520s fit the best. Trained for months with 65 lb pack for a demanding Smoky Mountain trip (carried 50 lbs). These boots took it all and asked for more. I loved my Vasque Sundowners (the old Italian version), but overall the 520s are better, although a bit heavier. Next time I see them on sale, I'm going to buy another pair. Also, based on some reviews, I'm going to try the Superfeet Greens for some more arch support. Also, I'm addicted to Gore-Tex (sorry Ray Jardine).

3 years strong -
I live in Montana and these boots are the only shoes I wear after December 1st. I bought them three seasons ago and they still look new. I reseal them every season with a nubuck/suede sealer and my feet have still never gotten wet, even on lengthy hikes and creek crossings. These boots are by far the best investment in footwear I have ever made. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to own the same pair of boots for years, because these will last ya'.

Nice shoe that runs HUGE -
These are great-looking shoes, but be aware that the sizing is akin to men's, not women's: order at least one full size smaller than normal. I had to return one pair because of size and the replacement pair is still too big. However, they're also not very cushioned, so I put in my own insoles - that took care of the size problem and now I'm very happy with them. They certainly are unusual looking!

Good foot - Bad foot -
I just recently purchased this boot and have been trying to break them in. The right boot fits like a million dollars, the left boot hurts my instep under the hooks and laces. After about 20 miles, different weight socks, foot liners and heal inserts I'm still trying to figure out how to get very far from home with this boot. The arch support is great, the soles are a little stiff yet.

I love the looks of the shoe. It is lightweight.
Comfort is not there, but if you ad an insole with arch support it is just the extra that makes it comfortable enough for all day.
I work outside and it goes through all types of terrain.

This is not a hiking boot -
This is a mountaineering boot. I've used them for about six months now in snow, ice, and rock.
The soles are extremely stiff. It took my heels a month or two to get used to the stiffness. Great for edging and front pointing, bad for long distance hiking in warm weather as the insulation works almost too well. If you try to use it with warmer temperatures, your feet will get too hot and moisture will build up. On the plus side, they are outstanding in snow and ice. My feet have never been cold in them. Also, they are completely waterproof. No outside moisture ever felt, even after slogging through spring snow all day.
The rubber rand extends nearly around the boot and is pretty sticky. This combined with the very stiff sole makes them perform better than I thought they would on rock.
They do require a good break-in time. The leather is thick and stiff at first. There is minimal padding on the heel, while there is extra padding across the instep for lacing up tight. The insoles are adequate, but I replaced mine w/ superfeet and they fit great.
Finally, they seem slightly oversized. I ordered a 10.5 and they are a little roomy- probably for heavier socks- but the boots are so warm you won't need the heavy duty socks.
All in all, very capable and durable boots. I would have given them five stars if they had a little easier break-in period.

Nice boot -
The boot fits! I'm wearing a 14 wide, and my foot isn't cramped, and my toes don't bump on the way down.
The sole isn't Vibram, and probably won't wear as well, and doesn't get as much traction.
However, this boot is really comfortable. It is tough enough for rocky trails while laden with a pack, and feels like wearing a sneaker. When I lost my balance and stumbled into a creek, they stayed dry.
One oddity, there is no removable insole. The Gore-Tex bootie is it!

I love my pair, but the one complaint I have is that Asolo seems to run very narrow. Unless you have very skinny feet, I would recommend wide by default for comfort.

State of the art -
These boots are awesome. The craftsmanship is exceptional. The comfort and support is great. The rubber toe guard is key for protecting the leather. The lacing system is superb it allows the boot to snug up perfectly. The lace hook in the middle of the tongue allows you to get your heel all the way back, as well as create great ankle support. They are pricey but worth every penny. The Power Matic system and the structure of the shoe feel like it propels you forward. I've never experienced any boot like it before. I had a pair of Vasques for 8 years and these boots are built way better so I expect to get a lot of miles out of them. Asolo has mastered the art of boot making.

Awesome Boots!
Tried many boots and walked many miles until I found the 520s. Just got back from Kilimanjaro where I put many miles on these in rain, snow, and sleet... no blisters or hot spots. I used just wool socks and no liners, the boots kept my feet dry, warm, and happy. The only upgrade was Superfeet green inserts which really made these great boots even better for me.

This is the only pair of shoes that holds my ankle. I will be using them for snowshoeing and hiking in the snow with my crampons. Love them!

Great boot -
I bought these boots in the dead of winter and find they provide great traction on icy city sidewalks. Clomped around in snow and feet stayed dry and very warm. Provide tons of support. These boots are a bit on the heavy side and I hope they won't feel too hot in summer. No break-in time necessary. Extraordinarily comfortable. Good if you have a narrow heel and wide toe. I bought these after my Asolo 530 boots gave out - I can't complain since I used them heavily for 15 years and walked hundreds of trail miles. I knew I'd be buying Asolo’s again and wrote the company to ask which boots had the most similar fit to the now-discontinued 530's, and they recommended the 535's. I am very pleased with my purchase and look forward to hitting the trails this summer.
