Simple Shoes-A Philosophy, Not Just A Brand

Simple is the genius of Eric Meyer. While attending UCSB in the late 80s and early 90s, Eric created the first Simple sneaker simply called The Original Sneaker.

As we remember it looking back, Erics story is fascinating. He was inspired by the lack of casual lifestyle footwear available. Sneakers, primarily were athletic and had swooshes, pumps, gels etc. Eric liked to spend time hanging out, like working on his VWs (one of his favorite things to do), doing homework or reading poetry at the local java shack. You dont need a running shoe for that. So Eric designed a sneaker that he would wear. The original sneaker was a suede upper, classic styling with a white toe cap (by the way Simple is re-launching the Original in July 04, look for it here at Zappos).

Heres where his story really gets cool. He sold his 2 Kharmen Ghias VWs, his pride and joy, and raised enough cash to have his first proto type samples created (this is very expensive by the way). He took his samples to a trade show to see if he could sell them to shoe stores. At the show he hooked up with some cool people that worked for Deckers Outdoor Corporation, which also owns Teva Sport Sandals and Ugg Australia). The people at Deckers understood his vision, soon the first Simple shoe line was created by Eric and Deckers.

Eric also created very clever ads and t-shirts which inspired an almost cult like fan club. One of his cool sayings was The Path To Knowledge Is Kind Of Tough, Youre Going Need Good Shoes.

The second sneaker Eric created is called the Old School Sneaker, fondly referred to as the O.S. This was a to be a companion shoe for the Original, and has slightly cleaner lines, no rubber toe cap and a red kickball outsole (which has become an icon for Simple).

What happened next was amazing. There is no way that all the marketing could produce the phenomenon that swept through the young skate market. The edgy, trend setting skate boarders adopted the Old School on their own accord. This propelled the Old School to stardom overnight. This was to become the first of two very big events in the life of Simple.

The Old School Sneaker has become the soul of Simple. All Simple sneakers to follow have been renditions or inspired by this sneaker. The Old School has survived 10 years now and has to be considered a true classic.

As skaters moved onto other brands, the Old School was then adopted by the Surf culture along with another new style called Barney which also gets a re-launch in Fall 04.

The second big thing was the Clog. In 1994 Eric designed the Original Clog. This clog swept the country in popularity and was one of the most requested shoes in the country. This was so big, some say Simple made clogs a cool thing to wear again like it was in the 70s.

Simple has continued to create cool, casual lifestyle footwear that does not cost too much. We like to think of ourselves as A cool little shoe company. If you are cool or want to be cool, Simple is the shoe for you.

Oh, My, Gosh...I Love These Shoes!
I just received my Simple's GT Jane and less than 5 minutes later, here I am. These are the most fantastic shoes I have ever purchased. The quality is wonderful, the style is wonderful, and the FIT (true to size) is WONDERFUL. They are so comfortable! I have issues with swelling feet. In the morning, Im usually an 8 1/2...but by evening, I could be an 8 1/2 wide. So these shoes are perfect. I have a little swelling issue right now, and they slipped right on. But because of the way they're made, when my foot is normal size, they will still fit just fine. I am definitely going to order 2 or 3 more pairs. With all the colors, and patterns available, these shoes will change with all the seasons. I'm so excited to have finally found the most perfect shoe! And I find now after walking around the house in them, that the arch support is quite adequate. And the strap is very comfortable...not too restricting. I'm so happy with these! Thank you Zappos!!!!!

The same size in two colors fit differently than the other -
I bought a yellow pair, a blue pair & a green pair in this thong. The green & blue thongs fit perfectly & I was really happy with them! Then I took out the yellow pair and it was moderately tight across the top of my foot, but I know in time they will stretch out.

This sneaker is so cute. I got the green/blue and it is incredible. It fit great out of the box and felt like I had broken them in for a month. I'm definitely getting at least one more color. Simple has had such cute new shoes lately, especially their Ecosneaks line. Keep it up!!!

Comfortable and good-looking, but not much support -
I've only had them for a couple of weeks, but I've been satisfied with the looks and performance so far. There's absolutely no support in the soles - I think of them more as a sandal than a shoe, but since I wear them at my desk job all day, there's not much need to go out and buy insoles. Overall, I'm pretty happy with them, but the Loaf is much more comfortable, though not as workplace friendly (since it looks like a slipper).

The perfect casual sneaker -
If you're looking for a comfortable casual sneaker that's perfect with jeans, short, slacks, or for walking around with just about anything, then these are yours. They're comfy, stylish, durable. I feel their value, quality, and style make them a worthy purchase. Kinda thinking of getting them in 2-3 colors (I have the blue) so as to go with everything. They just become a part of "your look", you know? Also - a little more narrow than I remember. And no, not great arch support, but comfy and cool? Aboslutely.

Love 'em!
I got these from Zappos about two months ago and I've probably worn them every day since! They are so cute (lots of compliments and people asking me where I got them) and so comfortable. No breaking in time whatsoever -- they were perfect from day one!
I usually wear a 9 but due to reviews I ordered a 9.5 and they are perfect. If I wear them all day my feet get a little sweaty so I'm trying to keep them fresh using a sneaker spray -- so far, so good. I love the "rabbit" color and I'm thinking about getting them in another color, too. I love these shoes so much; I even bought a pair for my mom!

V.V.V Cute!
I ordered these shoes on the 4th of July and I received them on Monday, the 7th. I love the fast shipping by Zappos. I ordered the green polka dots. I love the funky pattern. I wear a 10 and it does feel a little large for me. My heels keep slipping out of them...but I'm adding heal inserts and I think they will be fine.

I bought the shoes a half size larger so I could add an orthotic. The shoes are a little larger than I would like, but I think they would be too small with the orthotic. They are real cute and I'm very happy with them.

Simple sizing not so simple -
Comfy shoe overall, and the nubby footbed is great to walk on. However, despite ordering based on an old pair of Simple sneakers, it still took three tries to get the right sizing. The shoe seemed to keep getting wider, not longer. So now I have shoes that are pretty comfy, but slip off the heel (even with spacers), and don't cradle my foot as snugly as I'd like. The first pair, ultimately a whole size too short, was much snugger, therefore providing a better step. The third pair, great in length, is too wide for, say, running to catch the subway or shifting a car.

This was the first flat that didn't make my heel blister when I wore it without socks. It's a little shorter and wider that other flats, but I still ordered my usual size and they fit fine. I would definitely buy another pair since there was no real break in time. I'm excited to support simple's recycled/organic line that doesn't look like it's made out of a burlap sack.

Cute shoes -
I've had lots of positive comments on these shoes. I wear a 6 1/2 adult size and bought the coinciding 5 youth size. In retrospect I would have bought the youth 6. They fit perfect and because of that there is no room for an arch support insert and these shoes don't have support. Although I do still like to wear them.

Cute shoes!
I like them, I really do. My husband comments on how cute they look, and he's not always a shoe-noticer. I like that they're environmentally friendly too. I wear them with my Birkenstock orthotics (I've got high arches!), so I'm maybe not the best person to comment on comfort, but without the orthotics they are very flexible. They are good with the inserts as well; I just wish they were made with more arch support for feet like mine! I'm selfish that way.

Not quite a half size smaller. I love the shoe, very comfortable. I am a Privo fan and this has the same footbed. I have a narrow foot, so I feel going up a size might be too large for me. It's a little tight for my toes, but not uncomfortable.

I have had Simple shoes before and loved them! The original pair that I owned lasted 7 good years and looked great. That is why I purchased a new pair. However, while the look was still the same, they hurt my feet. After just a few hours, I couldn't wear these anymore because I had huge blisters. The material (which was once really soft and forgiving) was really rough even though I had on socks! The fit was great. Just not too happy with whatever material they are now using.

Good enough to buy twice! I bought this pair in red a year ago and they lasted me that long...pretty impressive considering I walk 5+ miles a day, and most shoes don't last me more than 6 months. I recently repurchased them in blue and I am loving them. My only complaints would be: breaking them in takes a while and the red sole on the blue shoe is a little odd looking at first. Other than that I love them!

Great looks, not so great quality -
I absolutely love the looks and comfort of this shoe. They are just great looking with anything I wear them with. I am sad though, that the elastic on the button stretched so much in the first month I had them that the shoes started to fall off my feet. I am going to try to fix them, though, because I love them!

Bulky black slippers -
I like that they are eco friendly, they breathe very well, and they are fairly comfortable, but they are fairly bulky and look extremely casual, too much, like a knit pair of slippers. The hemp weave is very thick and also collects dirt easily. Unfortunately it took me a little while to realize this and it finally stood out when I saw them next to other shoes and I had already worn them outside.

Green and delicious!
This is my third pair of the Green Toe shoes from Simple and by far the cutest! I do wear a size 11 in these but you'd never be able to tell (I ordered up because they do run about a size small, usually a 10). The strap is a little high but an insole or sewing the strap down just a tad will fix it. Just as comfy as all the other Green Toes, the insole is great.

I live in Phoenix and all we wear are flip-flops. This shoe is just as comfy and easy to wear, goes with everything, and isn't a flip-flop. As a hair stylist I stand all day and need support and comfort. These are great. They are a touch on the ugly side, but that's still cool.
