Since the mid-1800’s, the Grivel family of blacksmiths began actively influencing the history of alpinism from their small factory in Mont Blanc. Grivel was able to directly address the demands of both the mountains and mountaineers through the exchange of ideas between the alpinists passing by their factory. Based on the designs of the English rock-climber, Oskar Eckenstein, Grivel also invented and began making the world’s first modern crampons.
Maintaining their traditions by keeping in touch with the mountains and the people who challenge them, Grivel continues to produce their climbing gear in Italy. Standing by their gear, Grivel refuses to trade their heart and soul by transferring it to another country.
Grivel has remained at the pinnacle of ice climbing gear reflecting the ever changing, evolving demands of the mountains.
