The name Ahnu is derived from Celtic mythology, from the goddess of balance and well-being. The deity could accurately be described as an ancient version of “Mother Earth.” This choice of a namesake is both deliberate and appropriate, as Ahnu’s social and environmental commitment is incorporated in the foundation of every product that has been created and every business decision that has been made.
From the gold standard of factory certification (the footwear is manufactured in one of only 31 footwear factories in the world with SA8000 accreditation), to the use of certified post-consumer recycled fibers in the catalogs and packaging, Ahnu’s commitment is integrated through all areas of the brand.
The product goal is to achieve uncompromising performance by blending a modern aesthetic with the style, structure, and substance of the outdoor lifestyle. This goal has been realized through the emphasis on intuitive easy on/off technology and the proprietary QuiteLight™ construction, a system that enables exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and superior comfort.

FABULOUS -
I have so many feet problems...bunions, flat feet, past foot injuries and these shoes make me feel like I am walking on air. I am vegan and really appreciate that no animals were harmed to make this adorable and comfortable shoe! I love Zappos too!

Comfy comfy!
These are cute shoes to wear with jeans. Nice for the springtime for sure! I bought an 8 and usually wear a 7 1/2 to 8, so these shoes seem to run pretty close to true to size, maybe 1/2 size small. After wearing them for a few days, I had to put some moleskin on the heels to alleviate blisters, but the discomfort was minimal and once they're broken in, I think they'll be perfect. Basically, a good, cute, comfortable shoe.

All around amazing shoe -
Comfortable, fits a wider foot as well as a regular width, great feeling in the instep, really loved this shoe, ordered several more pair of different styles. True to size. Highly recommend in any of the styles.

Best lightweight hiker I've ever owned -
These shoes are amazing, comfortable, and more rugged than I originally thought them to be. I bought them specifically for hot and dry weather light hiking. I was impressed with how sturdy they felt. The soles did well on a gravel trail. And at the same time they were real breathable. The strapping system holds the shoe snug and I got used to them in no time. A great buy and Zappos even upgraded my order to free overnight shipping too. Much thanks!

Good Shoe -
Comfortable, nice looking shoe. My only complaint is about the interior. It was a bit rough, and although these shoes are VERY comfortable, they are a bit stiff on the interior and I got a few blisters the first few times.

Love this shoe!
GREAT, great shoe. Feels like you are wearing nothing, it's that light. Lots of room to wiggle toes, but holds firmly on the foot. The lace is a little long, but there is a small loop on the side that you can just tuck it into. I got this for a trip to the Smoky Mountains where I'll be doing light hiking, wading in some creeks and some walking around/shopping in Gatlinburg, TN. Seems like a good all around multipurpose shoe.

Strap doesn’t hold up to use...
Honestly I loved these shoes. Cute and in my color! I got LOTS of compliments on them and they felt good walking, but the strap that keeps them on your feet doesn’t hold up. It’s sad to say, but I had to return these as "defective" because of that and go with a different kind. The plastic buckle has "teeth" on it that bite down on the strap to keep the strap from slipping, but after 2 months of use every day, the teeth have nearly torn through the strap. You would have NEVER known you would have this problem with a nylon strap like that, but I have to wonder if the strap was torn apart by the type of teeth they use on the buckle. I have other shoes like this with the nylon strap and buckle and have never had this problem, so something to think about because it would be VERY hard to fix this with a shoe repair store because the strap is sewn into the body. Also, it would be impossible to color match. You may want to think of that if you want these shoes long term.

Don't really need it - still keeping it!!!
I ordered a few pair of casual athletic shoes for a trip I'm taking with the intention of keeping one. I originally was looking for a pair of "dressier" shoes for walking, but couldn't find something I liked, so I moved into the more athletic type shoes. I found another pair, but liked these so much, I decided to keep them. The strapping in place of a tie is a little different (I agree with the other review suggesting elastic), but I like that it also straps around the ankle. I often have problems with slipping there in athletic shoes. I also like that there is no tying of laces - they often come undone for me. The coffee color is indeed brown (looks all black in the picture to me). Nice combo with the blue. Very airy - which I think will be nice for going around town in the hot, humid summer months. Not great if you need something warm or waterproof!

Ahnu Tamalpais II (womens)
I make shoes for a living so I am very picky about shoes. I tried the Columbia Aquatooth before this shoe and found the mesh to be uncomfortably scratchy and the top edge of the tongue tightly irritating. This shoe is comfortable right out of the box. The mesh is flexible, the edges soft, and the zig-zag strap closure adjusts with a nice little cam buckle. Someone else said the buckle is hard to open but all you have to do is use the strap end to lift the buckle. The buckle stays put through any activity. This shoe feels cushy like a running shoe but is more airy than most running shoes. My only criticism of this shoe is that without my custom orthotics, there is no arch support at least not for a medium to high arched foot like mine.
Also I would have liked just a little more material on the sides at the instep so that the shoe doesn't gap quite as much at the instep. For a flatter foot, it would probably be a perfect fit, although if I leave the strap just a little on the loose side, it feels very comfortable.

Purchase snug -
These shoes are worth the short breaking in period! The area in the toes felt snug in my normal size, however, the next half size up felt the same (just that the arch support was off). I decided to keep the size I normally wear, even though they were restrictive in the toes. I first wore them with no socks... big mistake, but after breaking them in with socks, they feel great! They are my favorite shoes. The toe area stretched gently and the fit is perfect. The color selection is fantastic. "Feel Good" shoes without the clunky soles!

Good, but room for improvement -
Comfortable, lightweight, and stylish; reinforced in the right places and allowed to breathe in others. (And great colors--neither obnoxiously loud, nor arbitrarily tinted with neon details.)
My only reservation is the novel "tying" mechanism--a strap that winds through the whole shoe and which tightens with a single clip. On my (wide!) feet, there is an unwieldy amount of slack when the shoe is properly tightened--probably 5"-6" of strap just dangles awkwardly off the side of the sneaker.

Pretty comfy, pretty cute -
I got this shoe as a comfy summer sneaker and I think it's pretty perfect for that. The heels are a bit stiff rub a little, I think they'll require a little breaking in before I can wear them without socks. Otherwise, they're light and comfy and breathable, hopefully will be great spring/summer walking shoes.

Perfect for me, Keens are too wide -
I am so happy to have found this brand. My feet are too narrow to wear Keens (is it just me or are Keens ridiculously wide?), but these are so cute and fit great, though I did have to go up a half size. No problem with heel for me, they just fit like they were custom made for my feet. So if Keens seem too wide for you, try the Ahnus. Great shoe.

Love this clog -
This is soo comfortable. I recently went on a class trip with my daughter to Washington D.C. and wore these while site seeing all day, for three entire days!! My feet never hurt. I have a bad back when on my feet a long time and my back never hurt!!
I did order these a size larger as suggested in other reviews of this shoe and they were still too small. So I would order a size and a half. I am usually an 8 1/2 and I sent them back for a 10, which fit comfortably!

Cute Comfy Shoe -
I wear this shoe with short socks, so I haven't had any problems with the beel problem that a lot of others have noted. It is about 1/2 size smaller than normal and super comfortable, especially if you have wide feet like I do. It is light and feels like you're walking with tennis shoes... well cushioned and good support.

Look great, run a little small -
I love the look of my Ahnu’s. I was excited to have a pair of tennis shoes that didn't require lacing, and the snap-tight closures were a big selling point for me.
But the shoes run a bit smaller than I had hoped, and the ribbon lacing is not made of a stretchy material, so I've struggled quite a bit in getting them on.
I hope the company either replaces the ribbon with elastic material or makes the newer editions with more material to work with.
