In 1979, Rob Kaplan began manufacturing the DaKine Leash in Haiku, Maui, Hawaii. The DaKine surf leash was designed for rigorous Hawaiian conditions and set the standard for innovative design and high quality. After this innovative breakthrough, DaKine started to build on its reputation by building technical surfing and windsurfing accessories, such as in 1980, when pro windsurfers asked Rob to help build footstraps for their new wave boards. Throughout the early 1980’s, DaKine developed the 1st adjustable footstrap, seat harness, and waist harness, defining the company as the leading innovator in technical windsurfing accessories.
DaKine moved their manufacturing and operations to Hood River, OR in 1986; besides being a popular windsurfing location on the mainland, it’s also a gathering place for the best professional snowboarders looking to ride on Mt. Hood. In 1989, after proving themselves as leaders in surf accessories, gear, and bags, DaKine committed to the rapidly expanding snowboard market with board accessories, board bags, and gear bags. By using their commitment to unique designs, high quality, and the desire to stay true to the spirit of the sport, the company would become the world leader in this market over the next 15 years.
Throughout the 1990’s, DaKine moved into the snowsports glove category with a modest three styles, and has now expanded that line to close to 70 models today. In 1996, DaKine introduced the Heli Pack, which helped create the new category of minimalist technical backcountry day packs. In 1998, DaKine sought to surpass the Heli Pack and introduced the Heli Pro. In a short time, the Heli Pro becomes the standard for technical daypacks as well as the sport's best selling (and most copied) model. Also around this time, DaKine moved into skate specific packs, such as the Park Pack, which quickly became known for its innovation and durability.
A true leader in the world of bags, packs, and accessories, DaKine has also built a reputation in the travel category, whether it is board sport specific carriers or luggage. After celebrating it’s 25th anniversary in 2004, DaKine continues to pride itself on developing products for the top professionals in every board sport and building its reputation for innovation and quality for over a quarter of a century.

Cute tote that isn't too heavy like others tend to be. The open pockets and inside zippered pocket keep me organized and is durable when I stuff it with my lunch and other things for work. The ability to close it up with a zipper is a huge plus. Dakine is my new favorite travel gear!

Got this for my teenage son before he went to Japan, and he used it for school and for travel. It's comfortable, roomy, well designed, and looks great. He's very happy with it.

Roomy and different than other bags!
This bag is different than any other bag I have had before. Since it is divided into 2 sections with a zippered closure nothing moves around! You can fit so much stuff in the pockets on the outside and while looking at the inside it doesn't look like much room, I was able to fit an entire week's worth of clothes for a trip. Love this bag!

Cute, but enormous bag -
I was looking for a bag big enough to haul my necessities to work: books, notebooks, water bottle, lunch, etc... I had kind of underestimated the size though. If I have the space, I tend to fill it up and it gets uncomfortably heavy. It's a very structured bag, so I feel weird hauling it along when I have nothing in it just because it's so big. I'm sure this will be a great carry-on bag when I travel, so that's why I'm not returning it, but I am using my new Puma tote a lot more for work and everyday use.

Small but efficient -
The bag is just large enough for a laptop and a few notebooks, etc. Probably not enough if you want to lug a lot more items... but just right for lighter travel. I recently also used it as just an overnight bag and it fit everything perfectly. The look is great too - more stylish than the usual black/navy laptop backpacks.

Very cute purse!
I was looking for a bag that wasn't too small or too large. I found the Dakine bag at Zappos and ordered it. It is a nice in-between size with a zippered pocket as well as two open pockets inside. The outside also features a number of pockets to help keep things organized. A nice bonus was the cute polka dot lining on the inside. Overall, a good buy.

Love this bag! I wanted a bag for my notebook that I could also use as a purse. I don't want to carry both. My Dell 14.1" fits great with room to spare in the designated pocket. There is plenty of room for my wallet, checkbook, mp3 bag, digi cam, and something to keep my twins busy while we're out. Also, the pocket in the front is great for cellphone, pens, pda, gum, sweet tarts, you know - the necessities of life. I would like for it to have some kind of strap or something to hold my notebook in its pocket, but the way it's constructed sort of takes care of it. It could use some end pockets and maybe one in the back, but it's extremely heavy right now and I’d only put more stuff in it! So maybe that was to save my back! The bag is huge and very well constructed and beautiful and I anticipate it lasting a long time. I looked at at least 50 bags, literally, and chose this one. I know, a little OCD. AND Zappos upgraded my shipping to high priority and I rec'd it in 36 hours from the moment I paid for it. Yeah Zappos! I cannot imagine anyone not being happy with this item. Happy shopping!

Great buy! I'm so in love! I was needing a bag for school and was nervous to pay almost $60 for a bag, one of which I really couldn't tell the size. But this bag is sizeable without being too much. It has one large interior pocket, one large zippered pocket, and a bunch of little front and side pockets for extra storage and organization. The leather strap is strong and wide, allowing comfort when the bags loaded with books. I ordered it online around 9p and by 6p the next day I had it waiting on my front door step. Overall I couldn't be more thrilled with my purchase!

I love this purse! The strap stays on my shoulder and it just looks great! You can stuff this purse FULL and it still looks/feels amazing! Dakine is one of my favorite brand names, so discovering this purse was exciting for me and hope everyone could enjoy it as much as I do! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

I got it this morning and am returning it because I thought it was pink, but instead it was grayish purple. I need a bigger backpack to stuff more than one book for all day's classes at college, so it's definitely not my choice of backpack. I found a nicer & roomy pink Swiss army backpack and I’d really rather use it than this one. Also the chest strap padding is thin and exterior doesn't seem to be so durable and might not withhold abuses well for my laptop. (No strap to keep it in place and no pouches to hold its accessories) But I liked the ideas of cooler and fuzzy sunglasses pouch!

Perfect beach bag -
The Dakine Interval has plenty of room for all of my gear. The wet/dry bag is perfect for wet rashguard/boardshorts. The wax pocket and sunglass pocket are nice touches and the shoulder straps are very comfortable. The description stated that there was a cord port but I couldn't find it. I just pull my headphone cord through the little opening between the front pocket zippers. Overall, sweet backpack.

Well, once again Dakine has turned out another killer product. Having several of their travel bags and backpacks, I expected nothing less and once again was not disappointed. It may sound odd to say about something as simple as a cooler, but it is packed with clever features and is built in the usual Dakine bombproof fashion. The only thing I have found as of yet to take down any of my Dakine products are baggage handlers and as we all know, they could destroy a tank. I look forward to many summers of use. Thanks Zappos for the usual incredible service as well!

I love this backpack!
I've had this backpack for about a month now and very much enjoying it. The streamline look and color drew me into it. Looks better when you actually get it. The comfort padding is very comfortable as I am a student and carry my laptop and books. It has cool compartments to where you can store your personal items. It even comes with a matching iPod case. Very cool. I definitely recommend purchasing this pack. It is well worth it.

Nice Travel Bag -
Bought this luggage to travel abroad and found it can hold a lot of stuff. What appealed to me is the fact that it can be one large bag or two separate bags if you have a weight issue while traveling in the US. (Of course now there is a charge for a second bag). For those that travel a lot, this is a nice cute alternative to a boring black suitcase. My only complaint is that a buckle fell off when I checked the bag as two separate bags, so now I have to write the company and see if I can get a replacement. When you check them as two bags, there is nothing to do with the straps that hold the two bags together so you have to tie them up so they don't get damaged. This is how the buckle was lost. I would recommend this bag as a cute alternative, but it is better if you can check it as one!

Nice travel bag -
I bought this bag along with some other Dakine travel gear for a 20 day stint in Japan and Australia. I got a lot of compliments on the bag from everyone. It can hold a lot of goodies and is made very well. Not sure how long the handles will hold up as they are not real leather and I find that the fake stuff tends to peel after awhile, but it held up fine for the 20 days of travel and held 30lbs of junk just fine!

Great laptop bag -
This bag is really fantastic. It has a lot of functionality that is well thought out. The laptop pocket is padded and will fit a small-mid size computer. That leaves lots of room in the bag to fit a few books, a jacket, etc. The side water bottle pocket is great, as well, and the cooler pocket, though a bit on the small side, certainly comes in handy. One problem is that the organizer pocket, where I keep my wallet and keys, has to be zipped all the way down or you risk losing your valuables.
I use this back to commute to/from work on a bike and find it very functional. It feels durable as well. I'm not in love with the "cutesy" design (I have the olive bag), but am otherwise very pleased.

Larger than you think...
I have a 15.4” wide screen laptop and while it did not fit in the padded compartment, it did (barely) fit in the main compartment with a sleeve on, which is good enough for me. I had originally bought the bag as a camera bag (bad as camera bag), but may work as an overnight bag or a carry on bag. Still it's very cute and very well made and looks like it will last me longer than my new laptop. As always, you can't beat Zappos for price and service, love them...

This is a nice bag overall. As a computer bag, my 15" widescreen just fits. I wish it had a bit more padding to protect the computer though. There is some padding on the bottom, and a padded pocket inside, but it's not very thick. The look is great though. Nice quality construction and materials, and the striped fabric inside is very cute.

I am very sad to say this bag is too small for my laptop. With free shipping it didn't hurt to try, but save the effort if you have a 15 inch with the battery attached. Otherwise, this backpack would have served me well.
