In 1979, Rob Kaplan began manufacturing the DaKine Leash in Haiku, Maui, Hawaii. The DaKine surf leash was designed for rigorous Hawaiian conditions and set the standard for innovative design and high quality. After this innovative breakthrough, DaKine started to build on its reputation by building technical surfing and windsurfing accessories, such as in 1980, when pro windsurfers asked Rob to help build footstraps for their new wave boards. Throughout the early 1980’s, DaKine developed the 1st adjustable footstrap, seat harness, and waist harness, defining the company as the leading innovator in technical windsurfing accessories.
DaKine moved their manufacturing and operations to Hood River, OR in 1986; besides being a popular windsurfing location on the mainland, it’s also a gathering place for the best professional snowboarders looking to ride on Mt. Hood. In 1989, after proving themselves as leaders in surf accessories, gear, and bags, DaKine committed to the rapidly expanding snowboard market with board accessories, board bags, and gear bags. By using their commitment to unique designs, high quality, and the desire to stay true to the spirit of the sport, the company would become the world leader in this market over the next 15 years.
Throughout the 1990’s, DaKine moved into the snowsports glove category with a modest three styles, and has now expanded that line to close to 70 models today. In 1996, DaKine introduced the Heli Pack, which helped create the new category of minimalist technical backcountry day packs. In 1998, DaKine sought to surpass the Heli Pack and introduced the Heli Pro. In a short time, the Heli Pro becomes the standard for technical daypacks as well as the sport's best selling (and most copied) model. Also around this time, DaKine moved into skate specific packs, such as the Park Pack, which quickly became known for its innovation and durability.
A true leader in the world of bags, packs, and accessories, DaKine has also built a reputation in the travel category, whether it is board sport specific carriers or luggage. After celebrating it’s 25th anniversary in 2004, DaKine continues to pride itself on developing products for the top professionals in every board sport and building its reputation for innovation and quality for over a quarter of a century.

Lots of room -
Just like the Dakine Sarah, this bag is roomy with a lot of pockets. The only things missing are longer straps and I wish it had a zipper instead of a snap.

I got this as a birthday present for my boyfriend and he loves it. He says it's the most comfortable backpack he's had and all the pockets are perfect for keeping all his stuff organized. Good looking backpack, as well.

Perfect Urban Bag -
I was looking for a more practical size, and something that was casual. I was very pleased to find the Dakine Medic bag. It's got just enough room for all that I need. The fit is very comfortable and it's well made. I would highly recommend this product. It's such a steal for the price.

Strong, big, comfortable bag -
I was a little worried about the dimensions of the bag, but since Zappos lets you return items, free of shipping, I figured I might as well order it. This is a very good sized bag. I can fit 6 or 7 text books in it. Besides the inside, it has five different compartments and pen holders. The strap is strong, soft distressed leather and comfortable. I was concerned when I noticed that it's liable to wrinkling when left in a disheveled position, but those wrinkles come out naturally. It's a good bag, I'm glad I bought it.

Perfect for short trip air travelers -
This backpack looks pretty cool; even better, the outer laptop sleeve fits an IBM Thinkpad, and you can get it out quick at the security checkpoint without disrupting your packed clothes and other stuff. This is perfect for short term travel for work or whatever, without having to look like a corporate drone with your black leather corporate drone portfolio. Plus the front bottom pocket is insulated and specially designed to hold three Red Bull cans. It's like they know me.

Great messenger bag for Laptop -
I love this bag! I've had it for two weeks now and I use it daily. It's fantastic looking -- I love the polka dot lining and it's great for lugging my laptop around at work and to and from meetings. I have a 15.4" widescreen laptop, and it fits in the designated sleeve okay, but the velcro doesn't close over the top. Not a big deal as the computer is still secure. I love all the pockets and places for all the junk I have to take with me on a daily basis. This is a great, stylish bag and at a great price.

It was love at first sight.
I saw this bag online, and loved it. I bought this bag, and waited. When I opened the box, it was love at first sight! It protects my laptop and all my electronics, and looks so stylish when I'm walking down the street with it. I'm planning on buying another just like it so when it wears out (and from the sturdy construction that might never happen) I have another just like it.

I am returning to school to finish my Masters and I was looking for something that would be able to carry all my "stuff." This bag does that. It has a large main compartment and also a spot to put a small laptop. I really like all the zippered pouches in the front. One is a mini insulated spot and another one has a spot for cell phone and iPod. Overall, love the bag and absolutely love the red plaid look.

Too cute of a bag. I'm in college and this is all I need to get from class to class. It holds a lot of things in the pockets. I have pens, highlighters, pencils (lots for a drawing studio!), and then lotion, a planner, flash cards (lots for Japanese!) and I still have room to put two classes worth of material in here, my Macbook, and a water bottle. Even though I gave it 5 stars, one thing I would change is for it to have a more sturdy bottom so it could sit upright. It's always falling over!

This is the most awesome backpack I've ever owned! I looked very hard for the perfect bag for school. It's very comfy and stylish! It's feminine, yet not too girly. It holds my 15" laptop and a couple of books, food, and other stuff just right. I would definitely recommend this backpack. I love the inside paisley design! It's just as sturdy as it is cute! BTW, I received it in 2 days! Thanks again Zappos!

Cute and lots of pockets - A handy little purse with lots of outside pockets: should be ideal for commuting on the train this winter: small, light, and outside compartments for ticket, keys and phone so I don't have to open the middle part, which can stay zipped shut and foil pickpockets. Charming, tweedy look for winter.

The Dakine Project Blue backpack is awesome. I ride my bike all over town so the comfort level is perfect. Tons of useful compartments. It's pretty lightweight. Plus it looks great. Other than that, shipping was fast and everything was hassle free!

My 12 year daughter just loves it. The shoulder straps are a great fit and the bag can hold quite a bit of stuff. She really likes the insulated pouch. I would recommend it for sure!

Comfy and cool - My 19 yr old son ordered this backpack and he loves it! It's really comfortable across the back, and the interior and exterior pockets were well thought out. There are just enough pockets to keep things organized, but not so many that things can't be found. The insulated pocket is the perfect size to hold a sandwich and ice block. He gets lots of compliments on the pack as well!!!

Great bag with a great price!
I love this backpack. I have been using a hand me down bag for my surf gear when I hike down to the beach. Not all of my gear fit. Now all of my gear has a place. There is the bonus wetsuit bag that worked really well. It attaches nicely on the front strap. My Nalgene bottle fit great in the side pocket and the eyeglass pocket is great, too. The extra nice thing is the donation to the foundation. Too cool.
