New Balance began as a Boston-based arch support company in the early 1900s, developed into a specialized manufacturer of shoes in the 1970s, and has grown to become a leading global athletic products company. Today New Balance is a family of brands including New Balance, Dunham, PF Flyers, Aravon, Warrior and Brine.
Since the days of selling arch supports to police officers and waiters, New Balance has been a brand concerned with meeting the needs of the everyday athlete. In pursuing this goal, we developed an "Endorsed By No One" philosophy, which holds that a superior product will sell itself better than any superstar athlete ever could. Part of producing New Balance shoes, athletic clothing, and watches is manufacturing it to fit all widths and sizes, because a better fit produces better performance.
To ensure the best fitting, best performing shoes, clothes, and watches, we focus on improving our technology and production methods. A big part of that is maintaining five manufacturing facilities here in the United States where we continue to produce New Balance shoes and apparel that meet the standards we've employed for 100 years. We have also remained committed to a core set of values that include integrity, teamwork and total customer satisfaction.

New Balance MW558 (Leather)
I have been wearing these shoes every day for the last two weeks and I am pleased to report that they are very comfortable and breathe well. I have large (16-D), sensitive feet that sweat a lot and I have trouble finding shoes that are comfortable. I only have one minor cosmetic complaint. The tip of the toe box is a little too square for my taste. In any case, they are excellent shoes and I am very pleased with them.

Super comfy!
Buy this shoe! The color selection is a little odd and I didn't realize until mine arrived that it has some sort of design on part of the canvas but is it ever comfortable! I took mine out of the box and walked around New York City for 3 days!! Comfort, fit and support with literally no break in time! I have a wide foot so did order the "wide" and the toe box was perfect - no rubbing anywhere! It's a great fit! You won't be sorry!

Fell Apart -
It wasn't long until the rubber on the bottom of this shoe started coming apart from the rest of the shoe. Low quality for the price, the rest of the shoe was comfortable and fit well.

NB844 -
I've had NB before and love the wider toe box. I did not feel the 844 had as much arch support as the 843's, so I have to wear an insert with these. Also, there is some difficulty w/seam placement on the back of the ankle, it digs and causes severe blister, however w/the arch support it has provided the lift to alleviate that problem. Order 1/2 size bigger! Happy walking.

I purchased the shoes a half size larger as recommended. Felt too large at first until I got used to them. Really comfortable shoes. I walk quite a bit and they feel great.

Excellent shoe, which I have worn previously. New Balance is available in narrow widths, which are difficult to find.

Comfortable & deep -
I've had this shoe before. Same this time as before. I'm 52 and am running for health, not competition. The shoe is deep enough for my orthotics, well cushioned, moderate support. My favorite.

Perhaps more durable than most -
I was looking for a more durable work shoe and this did require a little breaking in which might indicate a longer lasting product than the softer shoes. It seems well made and durable.

It would be 5 stars except...
I have owned several pairs of this exact same shoe; this is the first pair that ever became SQUEEKY!!! (How do you fix that?) Very comfortable, I just wish it came in other colors because of an injury I cannot tie shoes at this time and I would like these in brown.

Somewhat happy -
I love the look of these shoes, and they are so comfy; however, they are very hard and heavy for running, I find it not so pleasing. Not so happy about that, wish I could have found them in a store before buying, otherwise alright.

These are GREAT!
This is one great shoe! I knew the minute I put it on--there is no getting used to these shoes...they are comfortable right from the start. Zappos has great service, too. I had to go up a half size. These fit a half size small.

All about New Balance shoes -
A darn good shoe. Far better for walking than standing though. One negative (which also goes for the New Balance hiking shoes) is that they have issues with excessive heating... of course I wear them all day every day which may or may not be the intention.

Shoes made my feet hurt so bad I had to walk with a cane -
These shoes make my feet hit the floor flat rather than the expected roll of a walking shoe. Like a dummy I thought it was everything else other than the shoes. I never had a problem with shoes like this before and I was baffled. I went back to my old shoes and the pain went away, surprise!

Cool & comfy with orthotics -
Online reviews led me to order a half-size larger than I usually wear. A whole size larger might have been better. Still, this shoe is a good fit for my narrow foot with high instep. The elastic over the instep is a bit snug but I believe it will stretch with a little wear. The slight "cup" at the back of the heel is just enough to hold my orthotics in place, and the snug elastic makes sure my foot doesn't slip out of position. Plenty of room to wiggle my toes.
Looks? Well, I didn't buy them for their looks, and it's a good thing. What I thought was plain canvas has a printed floral design, and the "N" logo is appliquéd in an ugly brown & orange fabric (matches the insole that I removed).
This is a good, inexpensive, lightweight summer shoe that I'm sure I'll wear a lot and enjoy.

Not overly impressed -
After reading all the reviews I was very excited to receive this shoe, but I have to tell you I'm not overly impressed. The look is ok, kind of bulky in a cool way, but that's fine. For a shoe this price, I'd expect extreme comfort and I'm just not finding it. I already wore them a few times to work so can't exchange them, but I'm truly thinking of writing New Balance. As to the sole and insides, I feel no cushioning at all and it's a very stiff shoe. There is a lot of toe room though. I just expected a lot more and wouldn't have spent $94 for them, after having worn them. Also, I tend to walk on the outsides on my feet slightly and after two wearings, I can look at the back of these heels and they have already sagged. I thought NB has built-in technology to prevent that.

I like it -
I was always a big fan of NB's canvas tennis sneakers and held onto mine until they were ready to fall apart. The MX608 is the first non-canvas NB shoe I've purchased. It's quite comfortable and I'm very happy with it. I'd love to see canvas return, though.

Like walking on air...
My husband discovered these shoes a couple of years ago and loves them. Following recent hip replacement surgery, I needed shoes that would cushion me on the sidewalks of NYC and discovered that there is a women's 882, which has turned out to be a great shoe for me. I might wish for more conservative colors, but otherwise they are great!

Best walkers for wide feet -
The New Balance 844 comes in multiple widths and provides room for toes to move about. I ordered a "D" width. Good for walking and running on the treadmill, walking on cobblestones and during a general workout...and it is made in the USA! Shoe runs short so order a half size larger than other athletic shoes, full size larger than regular shoe size. I have tried other athletic shoes but keep coming back to this one. I have one in white for the gym and one in black for vacations/travel.

Good looking but poor fit -
I bought these shoes to use with newly acquired orthotics. I called New Balance to ask if I should order a larger size. They said, "No. Order the size that you usually wear." We are going on a trip and will be doing a lot of walking so I wanted something comfortable. The PT person that made the orthotics for me suggested New Balance. My feet hurt when wearing them and I am pretty upset about it.
