About Motorola
Motorola – Making History Through Innovation
Today, Motorola is synonymous with mobile phones, cell phones, Bluetooth® devices and other personal electronics. Founded in 1928 as the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation, Paul and Joseph Galvin began as battery eliminator manufacturers. The stock market crash of 1929 forced the brothers to come up with a new idea in order for their business to survive. At this time, automobile and radio technology were growing rapidly. Seeing the potential, Paul created a prototype radio and branded it the “Motorola” after the word “motor” and the suffix “ola”. This brand was so popular that Paul and Joseph decided to rename the company Motorola. The car radio became an integral part of vehicular operation and was the first of many Motorola innovations.
Parlaying the success of the car radio, Motorola began experimenting with developing new radio equipment. From the 1940s through the 1960s, Motorola manufactured portable two-way radios for business, military, governmental and personal use. Due to a limited amount of wavelengths available for use, the government decided to propose new legislation. In 1968, the FTC allocated frequencies specifically for new technologies. One of these new technologies was cellular technology. Motorola engineers recognized the potential of this burgeoning technology and immediately began developing personal phones. In 1973, Motorola developed the first working cellular mobile phone.
1983 marked the year that the FCC approved Motorola’s first commercial portably cell phone. Not only did Motorola create the whole car audio industry, they also played a huge part in the birth of the mobile phone industry. Motorola now produces mobile Bluetooth headsets, quality digital phones and other wireless audio devices and adapters. Constantly innovating and never standing still, you can be sure that Motorola will be involved in the next big wireless revolution as well. Hello Moto™, and thanks for making communication easier.
