I have been more than a 10 year fan of Mizuno running shoes and have always chosen the Wave Riders. After researching some alternatives and finding out the Sayonara has a slightly lower heel height (10mm versus 12mm) than the Wave Rider, I decided to try them. I am so glad that I did. These are the best shoes of my 30 year running history. They are incredibly light, supportive, great heel fit, roomy toe box and the lower heel height fits my style perfectly. Of course everybody has unique feet but if you are a Mizuno fan, you must try these!

Either people LOVE the Sayonara or they absolutely hate it; having said that, It's important to know a little about running or running shoes when purchasing this shoe. It is also imperative to know if you over or under pronate. This shoe is designed for neutral runners who either primarily strike mid-foot or are transitioning from a heel strike to a mid-strike. If you don't know what any of this means--do not buy this shoe. This shoe doesn't have a ton of arch support or heel cushion--which is why a casual runner might give this shoe a bad grade; unfortunately that's not what the Sayonara was designed for. This is a lightish shoe meant to give a healthy bit of cushion and support to the mid-foot as the ball of the foot lands--and just enough space for the heel. It has very nice road feel. One of the first things I noticed was being able to feel even the slightest pebble on the road. It rides easy and the grip on the front of the shoe is perfect for a non-slip mid-strike. I've run both a half-marathon and a full marathon (and countless 10k's, 5k's, etc) and this shoe races great. If you like this shoe stock up as the Sayonara just launched and it sounds like it's a wider shoe and Mizuno is notorious for screwing up a good thing. I highly recommend this shoe for anyone interested in switching up their form! Great transition shoe!

This is my first Mizuno Running shoe. I have always run with Brooks or Asics, but wanted to try a more lighter weight alternative. These shoes offer a fantastic ride and are extremely well padded for weight. They look very good as well. They are one of my favorite running shoes I have had actually. The downfall of these shoes is the durability. After putting around 120 miles on these shoes, they are showing extreme wear. The soles are starting to get drag and there is a hole on both shoes in the toe box. The bright side is that Mizuno will replace them, but I am quite disappointed with the quality in these. I would definitely suggest buying in the end though.

I'd also recommend: Brooks, Asics

This shoe has an awesome light-weight ride. Not too firm, not too soft, just right. For me, it's all about fit and ride. The fit was perfect after sizing down one half size. I typically wear a 12 in running shoes, occasionally a 12.5. Ordered a 12 in the Sayonara and put 42 miles on it the first week despite the excessive roominess. I'm keeping the 12s to kick around in, but the 11.5s are a better fit in the mid-foot and it locked the heel down on these long low-volume feet of mine. I still have plenty of length as well as width in the toe box area. I like them enough that I ordered two additional pair to have in the arsenal. I'm giving it 4 stars because sizing seems quirky, but it's a 5 star neutral trainer once you get fit dialed in.

Mizuno says this shoe is supposed to replace the wave precision. Well it's very different. It is very flat on the bottom of the sole, does not have as much arch support as the precision. The positives are that it is a VERY light shoe and very breathable.

I'd also recommend: different Mizuno model.
