Absolutely love this shoe. I changed to a neutral Mizuno shoe after I started having foot pain from plantar fasciitis and heel spurs. I have orthotics that fit fine in the shoes, but have found that I like using the factory insert. I fast walk 30 miles per week. Since I loved the Wave Rider 15 and 16, I was a little apprehensive about going to the 17 since there were some design changes. The new design is even better and I didn't think that was possible. Two things to keep in mind. First, this is a neutral, flatter shoe. I don't over or under pronate, so I can't speak for that. Second, I normally wear a 7.5 dress shoe, an 8 running shoe. I had to order an 8.5 in the Mizuno Wave Rider. This give plenty of toe room, but not loose around the heel. I have only had them one week, but already have 30 miles on them, with zero break-in time. The fun new color is an added bonus.

I have been wearing the Mizuno Wave Rider exclusively sinc 1998, and I am very disappointed in the Wave Rider 17. I have run multiple marathons in these and have never had a problem until this morning when I went for my normal daily 5K run for the first time in my new Wave Rider 17s after retiring my Wave Rider 16s. I could feel something weird on the inside of the left shoe, and I said to myself that I will just use some masking tape to tape it after my run. At the end of the run, I looked down at my foot, and blood was seeping through. I don't know if it is a problem with this one shoe or with this design in general, but it has certainly made me question my 16-year loyalty to Mizunos. I never write reviews, but I am so disappointed that I have decided to do so this one time.

I am literally so confused and disappointed? I can't believe what I'm looking at like what happened to the shoe is it EXTREMELY cheaply made from the outside and in... Comparing all my Mizunos this just doesn't look even like the same brand? Sadly I will have to return and go back to Asics.

I have run in Wave Riders for years and this latest update is awful. I have narrow feet and these run in narrows, but the redesign of the shoe has a longer and wider lacing system. In addition, the reinforced area at the base of the laces is straight, not curved (like almost all other shoes including previous Mizuno models. As a result, the laces come all the way down to the tops of my toes and for my foot to bend at a weird angle. I got blisters after just one mile. I have literally run thousands of miles in Mizunos over the years and have never had a blister. Also, this new redesign is light, but seems very cheaply made. Mizunos have never been a long wearing shoe, but these seem just cheap. Unfortunately, I will have to find a new brand.

I agree with the review where the quality is so poor compared with previous Muzuno Wave Riders. The laces do run deeper toward the toe and I too was bleeding on the big toe where the plastic from the base of the laces cut. Plus the selvage of the fabric with the plastic was left long and it rubbed as well. These are poorly made shoes and I am so disappointed. My wave rider 9 and wave rider 11 were so comfortable I wore the tread down on the soles. This pair didn't make it 4 miles.
