The Phaser Peaks are perhaps a half size small I have found. They are immediately comfortable for hiking with no required break in and on level ground they work well. I got blisters on my heels from the back of the boot mashing into my heel during up-hill climbs. Whether this is a result of being a half size small or some other flaw is unknown. Out sole support is good, but for backpacking with moderate loads, I think they will be too light, since I can feel the terrain under my feet even with light loads. I am planning a backpack trip to the Grand Canyon and don't yet have the confidence in these boots to bring them.

Shoes are as advertised and we are happy with the product, service, fast shipping and especially the no shipping on return and exchange when we needed a larger size. Thanks.

Second pair of Merrell boots from Zappos. The first pair had cloth eyelets that broke down way too quickly. Thought that I would give Merrell a second chance with the Phaser, within a week the top eye hooks on both boots bent upward. The boots are great--good fit and comfortable for 9 hours a day of wearing, but will have to move away from Merrell. Zappos is definitely my favorite online shopping site, I'm blown away by the customer service!

The least comfortable of the six Merrells I have owned. The left boot leaks in spots, too. I can't recommend this shoe.

I wasn't sure what to expect really, since the most I'd ever spent on hiking shoes is a moderate amount. These are well worth the price and are perfect for the Northwest/Cascade area. I'm especially impressed with the way they grip to wet surfaces, if you hike along rivers you'll have confidence walking on wet or mossy rocks.

After 2 months I can say these are the worst Merrels I have had. The rubber toe guard is pulling away, the mid tongue cinch straps have broken, the top hooks have bent so bad they barely catch the horrible quality shoe strings that came with them. The comfort is great, but the durability is a huge issue.

Because I have a long (and narrow) foot it can be hard to find a good fit. Bought these for hiking in the Sierra and hiking up half dome. So far, with about 20 miles on them, I have no hot spots. Very comfortable while providing support for ankles. I put a pair of superfeet in them.
