Out-of-the-box all day comfort. As a Motorcycle Instructor, I needed an over the ankle all day shoe with good protection for the range, waterproof and lightweight. I'd worn through my M/C boots (too heavy) and a pair of Columbia hikers. My wife recommended these and they're great! Lightweight, cool, out-of-the box all day comfort, and great support for a 280 lb guy in a 11.5 shoe standing/walking in a parking lot for six hours... now for some hiking.
Brands I'd also recommend: Keen, Rockport, Timberland, Alpinestars

Merrel Moab Mid - I've been very pleased with the other Merrell shoes I've owned for the past five years and so far these continue that tradition. Comfort, lightweight, waterproof, and good looks all in one.

Comfy - but small! This is the third hiking-boot type of shoe I've ordered from Zappos, and thankfully this one fit. BUT I had to order up a full size! A friend had the same shoe - a half size smaller than this - I tried it on so knew to get a bigger size. They're narrow enough for me - sometimes tough with a man's shoe. I'm pleased overall - they are comfortable and lightweight.

Excellent for sore feet - I got these for my wife who has had heel spurs and general issues with her feet. Unlike virtually every other boot she has tried, these are comfortable, have the support and work for hiking or just around town.

Comfortable - The Merrell's Moab Mid XCR is very comfortable and very light weight. This is the exact shoe I wanted when I placed my order. I am 69 yrs. old and do volunteer work for Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy. I help build trails and maintain trails all year. These shoes give me great support and grip on the hills and trails. I would recommend these shoes for all types of Spring and Summer hiking.

Let me begin by saying Zappos rocks. But this isn't a review of Zappos...so that's all I'll say on that. And one last thing before I get to my review... if you bought these boots for someone don't just give it 5/5 for everything! Anyways, onto the review. I tried the plain old non GORE-TEX® version of these at a couple retail stores to get a feel of the boot. I decided that the non GORE-TEX® boot was really comfortable. However, none of the places had the GORE-TEX® version. I ended up ordering from Zappos.\After trying the GTX boots on I found that the GORE-TEX® lining really changes the feel of the boots. It's not as soft and cushiony as the plain version. I will also add that my left boot seems to really pinch the top of my big toe. The right boot is absolutely perfect but the left one is very bothersome. Anyways, I have worn these boots around for a couple hours for a few days. I've gone to class in them, walked the dog and just ran errands for a feel. It's been raining too so that was an added bonus to test out the GORE-TEX®...and the GORE-TEX® lining really works. I stepped in a giant puddle that went to the top of the toe box and my feet were totally dry. However, as nice as the GORE-TEX® is, the comfort leaves a little to be desired. There isn't as much cushion as the non GORE-TEX® version. Ankle support is minimal for a mid height boot. This is due to the mesh uppers. Full leather boots provide much stiffer support. Just be aware if you need support. Personally, I like it. These boots are very lightweight and sometimes I forget I'm wearing boots... until my toe gets pinched. And yes, I got my feet sized at the store and got the size they recommended, only from Zappos rather than from there. I don't know if I got a dud left boot but I'll try to talk to Zappos about that later. So to sum it up, if you think you need waterproof Merrell Moabs, then go ahead and get these. If you don't need waterproofing then please, get the regular ones. They are much more pleasing to wear.

I work in the irrigation service industry and a true test of footwear is putting it to work. Three days of slopping around in the rain and turning on irrigation systems I have plenty wet time and about 70 miles on these shoes. They keep my feet DRY, in my line of work that is saying a lot. The Gore-TEX liner does its job and then some. Comfort level after three 10 hour days and not of bit of soreness in my feet is excellent. Size, I wear a size 11, ordered an 11 and they fit like an 11 should. At 15oz for a durable truly waterproof shoe I love these.

These boots are very comfortable and an overall great hiking boot, but if you are an avid hiker and like to get "off the trail", you should skip these. Your feet will get wet! The gortex does a good job of keeping water out if it is a nice day and you step in a puddle, but if you are out in the rain or walking through wet grass, your feet will get soaked. They are not waterproof, just water resistant. The foam outer layer gets wet and stays wet for a long time. Once home it still takes about 12 hours for them to dry. Another problem was the toe started to peel off of the shoe. They break in quickly, but they wear out just as fast. For any hiker, if you are going to spend this much, you should buy a more durable waterproof boat; these just aren’t worth the money.

Awesome boot - Ordered these for my boyfriend. First hiking boot he's worn in years and years that fit like a glove. Wore them on back-to-back 10-mile hikes in West Virginia back country without a problem. Fabulous. Multiple water crossings proved that the boots are indeed waterproof.

Perfect - This hiking boot is exactly what I was looking for. I had looked at many different sports stores but was unable to find one in a wide width with the bungee cord laces. It fit perfect, is comfortable even after being in them for up to 18 hrs. a day, and holds up to harsh conditions. I will buy this shoe again, and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a comfortable but tough hiking shoe.

I love these Merrell shoes! They are the most comfortable and sturdiest lightweight boot around. They fit well and are excellent for snow shoeing as well as summer hiking. I want another pair!

Great Shoe Overall - Overall, a great looking and comfortable hiking shoes. The only thing to be aware is that there maybe a slight crunchy noise when they are still brand new which comes from the Gore-Tex lining.

After wearing out my pair of Zamberlan hiking boots (20+ years), I couldn't afford a new pair so I bought these instead. I have to say I'm very glad I did. These boots kick ass. Waterproof so they are great when if need to mow the lawn while it's still wet. These are so comfortable I'm buying a second pair of Merrell Moab XCR. Oh, I usually have to buy a size up because of width. I bought the 10.5 (regular size) wide version and it fit like a glove. I love these and they cost a heck of a lot less then the Zamberlans.
Brands I'd also recommend: Merrell Moab XCR.

The fit is great. I took them on a eleven mile hike the first time out. No breaking in was needed. The laces tend to loosen as you go even with double knots. Very lightweight and overall I\'m very satisfied.

I have worn low cut Merrell Moabs for several seasons and find them to be very supportive and comfortable. It was natural to move up to the mid height Merrell Moabs as a replacement for a more strenuous style hiking shoe. They are every bit as supportive, with an aggressive tread, and come with a bonus Gore-Tex liner. I found them to be a little more full volume than the low cuts, but the addition of an insole solves that problem.

I had a pair of Keen hiking boots, but these are my first pair of Merrell. Great walking and hiking shoes. Comfortable and lightweight. They almost feel like running shoes. They keep your feet nice and warm in the cold weather. I just came back from the snow and the shoes kept my feet dry and warm. The traction on these babies felt pretty firm. Gives you confidence on wet or rocky ground. The only downside is that maybe on warm or fair days, your feet might feel a little overheated after a brisk walk or hike. Overall, I’m very satisfied.

My first experience with Zappos; more than satisfied. We live in rural far northern Vermont, and the nearest shoe store is 45 minutes away. I checked there, and found this style, but not in my husband's size. I found the reviews on Zappos extremely helpful, especially comments about sizing and feedback about general comfort. I ordered these, they came faster than expected. We are traveling out of country, hoping to do a lot of hiking, and my husband found these comfortable out of the box, and true to size. He's not sure they will provide all the support he needs for hilly terrain, but likes the soles - good and grippy. I am also so impressed with the breadth of the offerings at Zappos - how can any store compete?

It's hard to find hikers in a slightly wider width, which you need if you go for miles in the mountains. Feet often swell when you go long distances. Merrell gets it and makes a good product! I replace my hikers about once a year because the foam breaks down a bit and sometimes the waterproofing fails, but I consider that a plus! I put 300 miles on them and then change them out! As with all shoes, I wish someone would come up with better laces that don't untie themselves.

Bought these for my big teenaged son. He has used them fall, winter (in LOTS of snow) and now spring. I witnessed him standing in a creek for several minutes. And his feet have stayed dry in all these conditions. Also, this is a kid who would not wear anything else besides running shoes and he says these are just as comfortable, on the trail and around town. I read a review elsewhere from a guy with a 5E width that said the wide width worked for him so I am going to try a pair for my 3 1/2E width. This was our first time with Zappos and it has been great!
