I bought this shoe about 6 months ago. Up until this week I loved them - comfortable, waterproof, apparently durable. Then this week some piece sewn into the toe part of the boot to provide durability has malfunctioned - it is bending inward into the inside of the shoe making the shoe unwearable. Seems like a design flaw. I have been a devoted Merrell Hiking boot fan for years and this is disappointing.

First time I've been in a Deer stand and did not have cold feet. I didn't buy them for that but wanted to test them to the fullest. They passed in flying colors. And of course they are waterproof.

This boot is heaven sent! I wear an ankle/foot brace, which has made it a real challenge to find a comfortable and supportive shoe or boot. This boot works perfectly with it and I couldn\'t be happier. Other customer reviews on Merrell products noted that the boot works well with ortho inserts and that is why I got this (and a pair of the Moab model by Merrell), Fantastic product and, of course, both the website and customer service with zappos is without a doubt the best. I have decided that there is absolutely NO reason to buy shoes anywhere else! Thank you!!!

Perfect! Bought them 1/2 size larger than my runners (as recommended by another reviewer), then wore two socks (as I planned) and they were comfortable from the beginning; no break-in required! Wore them in cold weather in the snow and feet stayed warm!

Best boot I've found so far! I received my boots from Zappos approximately 20 hours after I ordered them, even though I was 1/2 hour past the deadline for pickup for next day shipping. Today I wore them on a strenuous hike of 7.2 miles in Table Rock State Park here in SC. Without any breaking in, and with a good pair of socks, I finished the hike with absolutely no discomfort to my feet. No rubbing, blisters, or anything! I've tried a more expensive boot by a different manufacturer and had blisters on my heel after a level 3.2 mile walk. I have no complaints about this boot and believe I will put a lot of miles on it. I recommend it. I did follow the leading of one other reviewer and bought the boot a1/2 size larger than my street shoe size, and I'm glad I did. Although there is ample room in the toe box because of this, there was little or no sliding of my foot in the boot, maybe because of the good socks I was wearing. Again, no problems, and I'm glad I went with the 1/2 size larger than normal.

All-Around Great Boot - Lighter that most other Gore-Tex or waterproof boots, yet built to last a tough hike with pack and gear. Very supportive, yet comfortable from the first wearing. I usually wear a men's boot for comfort of an aging toe and metatarsal area (despite a narrow foot), yet this boot cradles my foot with the looser fit I need and still gives support without constriction. I have learned to buy the boot that fits right and not go purely by size. I would recommend this boot to anyone who tried it on and found it comfortable from the start because that is how it will still fit after years.
Brands I'd also recommend: Any Merrell shoe as long as a person finds the right fit for them.

Amazing - I am not a boot connoisseur. In fact I have only owned one other pair. A couple of weeks ago I bought a pair of boots at a retail chain store for $50. At the time I thought they would serve my purpose perfectly. They weren't fancy, but they would work... right? Well, no, wrong! One week into wearing them the insole started slipping real bad. It wouldn't fit right. Basically they became a burden and I didn't want to spend the time troubleshooting all their problems. So, Wednesday night I decided place an order on Zappos for the Merrell Legacy GTX for $150. It was WAY more than I wanted to spend, but I took the leap. Thursday Zappos sent out the order with free overnight shipping (thanks!). Today I tried them on for the first time. I have never owned a pair of shoes/boots this expensive in my life, but the feeling is absolutely amazing. For me, these boots have set the bar for footwear. I am pleasantly surprised.

Really liked the look of this boot. But of the three Merrell boots we tried, this one was the least comfortable. It wasn't bad, but still 3rd out of 3. It had a lot of excess space across the top of the foot, even when fully cinched. But the length was right, so we couldn't go down a size. Ultimately, we chose the Merrell Moab Mid Gore Tex Boot.

Great except the big toe dimple. I have liked these boots for fit and comfort until after about 11 mos. a dimple formed where the leather joined the rubber just over the big toe. Since this happened on both sides, it is clearly a defect of design. Unfortunately it is more than cosmetic, as this spot pushes down firmly on the big toe, making these unreliable for long hikes.

Very good, but lasted only about 1 year. Like others, I found the boot fit well and and had few problems, at least initially. I do a lot of hiking in New England, where the paths are often muddy. I also walk in meadows where the grass is high and often damp. I wear the boots every weekend, doing about 20-30 miles per month. For the first 11 months I owned these boots they worked as advertised. As time went on, I found that the waterproofing lost its effectiveness. Walking in a damp meadow left my feet wet. Maybe 250 miles is the expected lifespan of such boots.

Pretty nice boot, but a bit pricey - Originally ordered ECCO winter boot and did not like fit (or price!). Ordered Merell's and have worn a few times and fit well. I do find my feet sweating; however, I have worn with heavier socks since I spend a lot of time outdoors watching my son’s college lacrosse games. No issues returning original ECCO boots. Good job Zappos...

This shoe looks great, but did not come in anything wider than medium. I ordered a size up hoping that it would fit, but it was very narrow for me. I do wish Merrel made it in a wider width. My rating reflects my previous experience with Merrels. I usually wear a 10 wide and ordered a 10 and a 10 1/2. The 10 was too small all over and the 10 1/2 was too narrow.

Painful. First use was in the Tetons at Jackson Hole. Boots were a little close fitting out of the box, but I expect some loosening up after using them for a while. By the end of the second hr. they had developed a sore spot on the outside of each ankle bone. Boots work great on a rocky trail, just have to limit their use to shorter hikes.

Caveat emptor. I bought these less than a year ago because I had good success with another pair of Merrell hikers. During the year I've worn them (gently) on mountain hikes (several day trips and weekend overnighters) through the Adirondacks and Delaware Water Gap without problems; no blisters, kept my feet dry and warm. However, last week I used them on a six-day hike through the Yellowstone backcountry and they really let me down; by the third day the soles of both toes had come away from the shoe (needed duct tape to close them up!) and my heels blistered badly. Given the price and relative newness of the boots, this is inexcusable. Boots are the single most important piece of hiking gear, and these failed me when I needed them. Perhaps these are good for yardwork or walks in the mall, but I'm sorry to say that I won't trust them in the woods again. The positive part of this story is that Zappos has kindly agreed to exchange them for another pair of boots. Kudos to Zappos for exceptional customer service; you've gained a lifelong customer.
