I needed a rugged boot that was essentially a winterized hiking boot. These boots are comfortable and unbelievably warm. Order 1 size up for maximum comfort and also keeping in mind you will be wearing heavy winter socks. I know I'll get a lot of use out of them!

Not much padding and too light weight for any real hiking. Probably okay for going on a 1 mile walk in your neighborhood, but not much more.
Brands I'd also recommend: none

I bought these boots after returning a pair to a retail store that did not fit at all. When I received the Merrells, I knew that they were going to be just fine. They were comfortable right out of the box. Although we have not had any ice or snow yet, I think the soles on these boots will perform well....they are like a trailer truck tread!!! I also have problems with fit, as I wear a size 11, and am recovering from a back and ankle injury. Today I wore them for the first time and I think they are very comfy; well padded in the shin area, ample toe box, and they feel like I'm walking on air. My guess is that they will do the job superbly in inclement weather. Thank you for introducing these to me.

Comfy, warm and toasty from the start! No problems at all with fit or comfort. The fleece is nice and I can wear these with wool socks and my feet do not get cold. Excellent tread in the snow and ice. Really like the boots!

I loved these boots the minute I tried them on. They are cozy, warm, and sturdy for walking on snow and ice. I like the fleecy collar around the ankle. They are standing the test during the cold snowy winter we're having in Minnesota. I normally wear a 7 or 7 1/2. I got a 7 1/2 in these to make sure I'd have room for thicker socks and I'm glad I did. They fit perfectly.

Love theses boots! I wear an 11 and the 11 fits great! They are great for the 2 to 3 mile walks I take around the neighborhood and great for running errands on cold winter days! I teach PE and have even worn these in the gym on cold mornings.

I bought a pair of The North Face Syncline GTX and I gave them away once I bought these. They keep my feet very warm and have superb grip for the snowy and wet streets of NYC.

This is quite the boot. It is warm, lightweight, and hugs your feet. Same size as the Merrell Hiking boots. Love These boots. I wear them for just about anything outside in Cold, snowy Minnesnowta.
Brands I'd also recommend: Merrell or Columbia

These are well-built, comfortable boots that can be worn all day. The low height means my ankle can flex easily and doesn't feel like a traditional boot. They have kept my feet toasty warm so far in single digit temperatures. I've already recommended them to friends. I did need to order the 1/2 size up, though--they run a little short.

After searching for warmth and comfort, this boot does what it's supposed to do: feels like it's gently hugging my feet (!) and keeping them toasty! I've had positive experiences with Merrell before, and was relieved to finally find this boot, at a reasonable price. I'm even wearing them now, perfect with midweight hiking socks! If I could afford it, I'd buy two!

You will need to buy 1/2 size larger in this shoe. Otherwise, great boot.

I am giving these boots five stars even though I ultimately returned them in favor of the more rugged Merrell Whiteouts. It was a tough choice mainly because these were indeed warm, had great traction, and were also very cute! Ultimately, I went for the waterproof aspect and overall ruggedness of the Whiteouts, and I made the right decision as I was trolling around very rugged cold wet conditions at 9,000 feet. I would have chosen these if my conditions were going to be a bit more civilized! They are definitely lighter than the Whiteouts and that would have been a nice plus. Great Merrell comfort and stupendous Zappos service as ever!

I bought the Merrell boots for my wife on line from Zappos because you can no longer find 5 1/2s in a store in this state. They are a great boot for the cold of North Dakota (-28 air temp 1/11/11 No wind chill). She walks a lot and the boot fits great. She says it keeps her feet warm outside and not too hot to walk in the mall for a couple of hours.

My foot is a narrow width and these are medium so there is plenty of room around the ball of my foot. The heel does not slide at all. Very comfortable. Tested in the snow and my feet were warm and dry when I went back inside.

I agree with other reviewers that you need to size up in this boot. I wear a 9 shoe and ordered a 9 1/2 boot. It is slightly too small, and I think a 10 would have worked better. I like the boot, though, and wish it would have worked.

I would give these 6 stars! They are warm and comfortable. There is no need to break them in at all. I wear 7.5 to 8, and the 8 was perfect with a normal crew sock. It would be too tight if I was to wear a big sock. Order 1/2 size bigger if you plan on wearing big socks with them. I am so pleased with this winter boot.

I am only guessing about the size/width as I couldn't get my foot in because the tongue is attached on one side. If only Merrell made some of their footwear in wide! I guess I'll go back to New Balance!
Brands I'd also recommend: New Balance-they come in W & WW widths

I wrote recently that I thought a size 10 would work better for me, but I've since tried that, and it's still too short. I guess size 11, it is then! These are nice boots, but you really need to order several sizes larger than your normal shoe size.

Great shoe for warmth, comfort and traction in the snow. I recently wore them in Montana, walking on snow and ice and also with snow shoes. They have a D ring clip so you can attach your gaiters. Very good all around shoe for snowy conditions.
