Terrific shoe! I have a narrow foot and a hammer toe problem. So I need a narrow shoe with some extra toe-bed room. This one had both, plus, Gore-Tex! (Found a similar Merrill locally, sans the Gore-Tex. Located this shoe with everything I wanted at Zappos.) Wore it for the first time on a 5 mile hike with no issues at all. The sole is excellent for gripping/balance on a rugged terrain. Thank you Zappos for carrying this shoe and for superb shipping!

I got the canteen color, they are beautiful. The fit is true to size. They seem tough enough to wear hiking but pretty enough for everyday.

Just came back from a trip to Glacier National Park. Did about 8 miles of hiking each day. I broke my ankle last fall and wanted to be sure to have good support. I am very pleased with my choice. They kept my feet dry. Which is great because it rained the whole time! I liked that they were lightweight, too. I kept saying throughout the hikes, "man, I'm glad I spent the money." It was wonderful to not have to worry about pain in my feet. I highly recommend! The tongue felt a little tight/uncomfortable when I was wearing them around before the hikes and I was concerned about that, but it was fine, didn't even notice it while I was out.

Brilliant hiker! Stability and out of the box comfort! A stiffer sole with great traction and no lateral movement in the shoe - both with Merrells included insoles and with Superfeet! Just a serious performance hiker. I can carry 20 lbs or more with this, too. Wish Zappos carried this style in the mid height - gore-tex, as I’d like that model for the extra ankle support and stiffer sole. This shoe is comfortable for me - slightly narrower in the toe box than many Merrells though I wear a B medium and have bunions - even with a mid-weight wool hiking sock, these don’t rub and will stretch. My foot feels hugged by these and no slipping. Good arch support though not amazing (I have lower arches), and decent cushioning - enough, even for long hikes. I suppose if I wanted a more cushioned comparable shoe for light hiking or multi-sport - and a more flexible sole - then I’d go for the Moab Gore-Tex XCR since it has a wide toe box. For narrower feet - try the Siren, but for stability and traction, fit for narrow heels - nothing beats the Chameleon Arc. I tried Oboz (loved them, but too narrow for me) and tried multiple Vasques which are great shoes, but not nearly the fit or comfort of these shoes. These get my highest recommendation!

Very comfortable shoe. Lots of room for your toes, nice arch support, and the shoe looks great. (I bought the green/grey color.) However, the second time I wore the shoe, I developed a blister on the back of my heel where the shoe rubbed. I've been wearing a band aid on the spot until I can break the shoe in a bit.

So far, so good!
I bought these mainly for an Alaska trip this summer, but have hiked in them and worked around the house in them and never had to break them in. They are comfortable and I like that they are not too bulky.

Great shoe -
Purchased this shoe to take on hiking trips in Canada and Africa. Will be using it for its official purpose next week. I have been wearing them around town to break them in. They are extremely comfortable. Slight rubbing where the tongue meets your ankle but that is working itself out. Of course the right socks make a difference - try Wigwams. I usually wear an 8 or 8.5 and the 8.5 is perfect.

These are definitely good-looking in person (although the "brown" color does not have nearly as much contrast between the two shades of brown as appears online - a good thing in my book). Fit-wise though, they were incredibly stiff (although this could read "supportive" to some and not be a bad thing). The reason I had to return them was because I expected a little more arch support - these left my arches not having contact with the insole.

I have Plantar Fasciitis and most shoes hurt my feet - these are great. No pain and I can wear them for hours and my feet are good. I wear and 8 and in this shoe I wear and 8 1/2 so that should help in you in ordering for yourself.

I had to order this shoe twice because my usual size (which had fit in other Merrills) was too small. Once I got the right size, however, I was really pleased with this trail shoe - put it on and walked five miles without any discomfort or "breaking in." Good shoe!

I tried these shoes on in a local store. I liked them but didn't fit right. So I ordered from Zappos. They fit wonderfully. Do order a half size bigger than you normally wear. The shoe does not have much of an arch, but I have a high arch. But along the foot bed on the insides is firm and keeps your feet & legs straight.

Great hiking shoe -
I hike on hilly trails which can be quite muddy and slick in the winter months. The Chameleon is performing well. It has good traction and stability and is very comfortable. Two complaints: it seems to have stretched out a bit after just a few wearings, and is now a bit too wide. It's also difficult to lace and tie due to an odd tongue device apparently designed to keep the tongue from shifting. Still, it's a comfortable, not-too-heavy shoe that works well for off-road and even muddy trails.

Nice Shoe!
I have plantar fasciitis and a heel spur and was looking for a more rigid and supportive shoe. These shoes fit the bill perfectly! They also have nice grip on the bottom for my outdoor sport of dog agility. I found that I can wear normal socks as well as my thick, wool socks just fine. The shoes accommodated my orthotics. The only minor complaint is that I wish the toe box was just a wee bit larger. After a day of wearing them, they do bother my bunion a bit, but not terribly (shorter time frames don't bother the bunion at all). The support they provide me for my other foot problems far outweigh this one minor problem though. I love these shoes! Unlike some of the other reviewers, I did not find these shoes to run smaller. They were true to size for me.

Good for walking in cold weather.
I do a lot of walking in all kinds of weather - these shoes have great arch support, and kept my feet warm and dry. I walk on the street in snow and ice - these shoes were just fine - did not need to break them in - just put them on and went 25 miles the first week!

Love these Merrells!
I bought these at the last minute for a trip to Napa at Christmas time knowing they wouldn't fit or be comfortable but emboldened by the generous return policy at Zappos! By the end of our 10 day trip I was wearing them every day and even around the house. These are so comfortable, good in the rain, not slippery in uneven terrain and they blend in unlike a big white athletic shoe! I bought the brownish color. Highly recommend.
