After trying 7 pairs of boots, this is the one I settled on. It\'s light, comfortable, and has good arch support. I can adjust the fit for my narrow foot with the laces, and the color is dark so I can wear it for yard work. The only flaw is that the tongue has some wrinkles on the sides. This is strictly cosmetic, though, as you can\'t feel it on your foot at all.

This nice boot runs small. My feet measure 9.5, and usually find a size 41 or 42 gives the best fit. In the Merrell hiking shoes and boots, the sizing is 41 in a 10. I would purchase this boot in a 10.5 or even 11. Still looking for a light hiker with the best fit, and factoring in the swelling of my feet from flying and lots of walking, so far it the best fit will probably be an 11 in a Merrell mid hiker. This will allow for lacing snug around the ankle to prevent slipping, but adjusted below for swollen feet. The larger size would also put the arch support in the right spot. I wear mid-weight hiking socks or two pairs of thin socks for hiking. Just to recap, my feet measure a 9.5, but the best fit in this boot is 10.5 or 11.
Brands I'd also recommend: Chaco, Hightec, The North Face, Garmont, Keen

I love these boots! I received them in the mail on Monday and went on a 5 mile hike Tuesday morning. They were extremely comfortable and worked great on rocky mountain terrain. I ordered a 1\/2 size larger as recommended by other reviewers and they fit perfectly. I\'m now a Merrell fan.

I wasn't really sure about these when I first put them on, but after my first hike they felt good, and I was very happy to have them when we had an ice storm. Glad I got them.

Have foot problems? This boot is a gem for those with arch supports and who need firm support. I wish the sole was more slip resistant in the ice, but the boot does come in a waterproof edition which I appreciate.

Quality of material is great. But the insoles were not comfortable at all. Caused me a lot of pain. I have had Merrells before and I wore those 'til they had holes on the bottom and they were still the most comfortable shoes I ever had so I'm not sure why these were so different. I even tried to swap insoles and it made it worse. Zappos is being kind enough to allow an exchange. Very disappointed in the comfort quality of these shoes.

I bought these because I needed something waterproof and with good traction for the Minnesota winters. At first I thought they were fine, but soon learned the traction is poor. Also, I have found that Merrell's have something weird with their insole which makes my calves and the soles of my feet really hurt. I can't wear them without replacement (non-Merrell) insoles. My suggestion: try another brand.

Absolutely wonderful boots! In my entire career, I've always worn Red Wing boots; they do not even compare to these. I work out in agricultural fields, woodlots, and wildlife fields. These boots did not need broken in. They sustained my feet from day one in a wet woods, climbing over downed limbs and trees, and on the steep inclines with gravelly terrain. I have orthotic inserts, and they fit great in these; plus these have great arch support too. I will always get Merrell from now on.
