I love these shoes! Unfortunately, Zappos doesn't list their purpose. I came to Zappos after having looked through the Merrell site and various barefoot living sites for reviews. These are water shoes. They are meant to fit like a glove, be worn in wet areas, be lightweight and drain easily, and still feel like you're barely wearing any shoes, while giving you traction. I usually wear my Merrell Pace Gloves outdoors on trails and light hikes, and while those do provide decent traction on any non-paved surface and dry relative quickly, I wanted something a little less beefy, like my Dash Gloves but for the wet outdoors. Wore them on a trip to the Santa Cruz Island. Siped outsole works fantastically as a boat shoe, as I'd gotten them wet in the skiff out to the boat, and they gripped just fine. Also great on wet, smooth rocks. Didn't have as much grip hiking around until we set up camp, but they're not meant to (switched to my pace gloves then). They definitely drain and dry quickly (within 5 minutes!), but walking through puddles will definitely get your feet wet, since the "mesh between the rubber pieces" that "Anonymous" from Alameda, CA mentioned are drainage ports to help your feet dry out. Supposedly the DWR coating protects from water - I do notice my feet get a little less wet than my pace gloves, but they definitely still get wet in anything more than a light drizzle. The ankle strap does help keep my foot in when the shoe is a little more stretched out from being wet, and as the back is lower cut, but I haven't found it so absolutely necessary. All in all, it makes for a nice water shoe, and would make a decent casual shoe in certain colours when you don't want to look like you're wearing sneaks. But it won't keep your feet dry, just help them grip and dry off when needed. Zappos! Update your description to mention that this is a water shoe!

Love these shoes. Super comfy. Support my heel well and give my toe area plenty of space. I wear them with socks and find it annoying when I step in grass that unbeknownst to me is wet. My socks get wet. But, if I wore them sockless I wouldn't find it so annoying. Even with this small annoyance, I still love the shoe.

Thank you Merrell! These are the most comfortable shoes ever! I broke my heel and tore all the tendons in my foot about 8 months ago and have been on a mission ever since I've been back to full weight bearing for a shoe that supports, yet mimics walking barefoot! And this is it! For the first time in 4 months, I am able to wear normal shoes and not walk with a limp! Yay! My knees and back feel great and I was able to wear these all day! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am a raving fan and will order every style now!

Just received and have to return. They fit everywhere except the right shoe is maybe 1/4-1/2 size too short. If I order a size bigger, they'll not fit anywhere except in the right toe. Nice looking shoe; comfortable everywhere except that short right shoe. Gave Style only 2 stars because it seems unnecessarily fussy.

These shoes are very cute and very comfortable, however they are not very practical when it's raining. The first time I wore them, it was raining and when I walked on wet pavement to my car, I couldn't figure out why my socks were getting wet. When I looked more closely at the soles, I discovered that there is mesh between the rubber pieces. I did not notice this when I looked at the pictures on the website. Unfortunately it is now too late to return these since I have worn them outside, but I would return them if I could because of this mesh on the soles which lets water in.
