Gorgeous leather & color - Besides the hideous Mephisto tag that cheapens the look of all their shoes, the Cap Vert's leather quality and color whispers pure class. With or without socks the smooth leather lining accepts your feet like these are high end slippers, and like slippers these have no arch support. Seem like they are sturdy enough to last, but even I can't imagine them lasting 3 times as long as excellent penny loafers that are 1/2 the price, such as HS Trasks. In fact for only $100 more you can buy the highest quality shoes made, genuine cordovan pennies. I have cordovan wing tips that are two decades old that wouldn't be much more in price but certainly would work. Too bad Ecco can't make a penny this stylish. They could eat this market up. Nice shoe but about $100 too much and not enough difference from other quality comfort pennies.

Time will tell - The Cap Vert loafers are at least my 3rd pair of Mephistos, the other two being lace-ups and extremely comfortable and appropriately basic in style. My kind of shoe. In semi-retirement I want slip-ons, decent looks and comfort. Above all comfort. My old, rubber soled LL Bean penny loafers have about had it and they don't carry a comparable product any longer. I wasn't looking to spend close to $300 as, being retired, that kind of expenditure will mean my wife doesn't eat for two weeks (but they don't have to be two weeks in a row). Having tried 3 other pair of less expensive penny loafers, these clearly are the most comfortable, with no leather softening, breaking-in necessary. How they could make such a nice shoe while nearly ruining a classic look is a trick known only to Mephisto, but since I'm no beaut, either, I'll let that pass. As for comfort, the big issue, they're great...yet, yet, they can be uncomfortable, actually hurt a bit, on the top of my arch, but not always and not in the same place. Odd. Other shoes I tried would annoy me with tightness, etc., but not with this particular defect, if you will. I think a little wear will cure the problem and I'll be able to wear these all day and not even know they're on my feet. Oh, the diarrhea brown color is ugly, too.

Cap Vert - My husband loves this shoe. It is instantly comfortable. He wears it for casual and dress as nothing else compares.

Great everyday shoes - This is the second pair of Mephisto loafers I've bought for my husband. He got the first about five years ago, based on recommendations from my brother (who's been wearing more casual Mephistos for ages), under supervision from his mother. When it came time to get a replacement, he asked me if we could find the same ones. These shoes look very nice indeed for a casual loafer (he only gave it a 4 because it wasn't as elegant as a dress shoe) and are very, very comfortable--a big step up from the Topsiders he favors in terms of support (not just style). Yes, they are pricey, but he'll be wearing them for years. The value is there.

Remarks about Mephisto’s Cap Vert shoes - I am a pharmacist who is on his feet for 12 to 14 hours a day. For the past 5 years, I have purchased and worn Mephisto’s Cap Vert shoes every day. I own 5 pairs at this time, 2 black, 2 burgundy, and 1 pair of tan. I can wear these shoes all day long and my feet never hurt, never feel fatigued. The cushioned sole provides a maximum of support for the arch and ball of the foot. Plus they look very smart and stylish, a very clean and traditional look. I do need however to issue a complaint. The quality of the shoe has always exceeded my expectations, however I purchased a black pair from a department store in November of 2005, and a portion of the lower stitching came loose on the front toe of the shoe and required my purchase of a new pair from Zappos. Again thank you for the opportunity to express my very positive opinion of the Mephisto shoes and my declaration that I will continue to wear them.

Great fit and feel. Styling lacks a little but I bought these for all day comfort which it excels at.

Excellent shoe, but couldn't find a pair that fit- The first pair was too wide (left foot only) even though I'm normally a medium width, so I called Zappos and they sent me another pair (without charging my credit card!) that were a half-size smaller. Sadly, they didn't fit either. The shoes felt and looked great, and Zappos service was unbelievably wonderful, but I still don't have the shoes I wanted.

Best loafer quality and comfort. Love the comfort and top-quality leather and construction, but order a half-size smaller than you normally would. I'm usually a 9 1/2 D, but the Mephisto 9 M fits perfectly with minimum slippage in the heel and still plenty of room in the toe. I found this sizing to be consistent with the Mephisto Abels, which I also bought.

Mephisto Cap, very comfortable - These shoes arrived quickly and turned out to be as comfortable as any custom-fitted footware I've ever worn. They feel like bedroom slippers. I have ordered from Zappos previously and always have been completely satisfied. My recent order also included other shoes. The Allen Edmonds loafers were perfect as well.

Top notch penny loafer with boat shoe soles! These are boat shoe (razor cut) sole and water-resistant leather, so can take abuse - yet look like a casual penny loafer, so they can be worn lots of places. They fit snug but not tight, with my 12 medium-wide foot, and feel very comfy.
