Marmot clothing and equipment began in April 1971, when two University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were in the Juneau Icefields of Alaska on a school project in Glaciology. While atop those glaciers, it was there amongst the students that the concept of a Marmot club was born. In order to become a Marmot, they had to climb a glacieted peak with another Marmot. In addition, everyone was president.
During that summer and up until 1973, Eric and Dave began making prototypes of down clothing in their dorm room. In addition to Eric and Dave, their friend Tom Boyce joined their ranks and opened a rental/retail shop under the name Marmot Mountain Works. Here is where the Marmot company was brought to life in the summer of 1974.
Marmot incorporates quality Gore-Tex® in their products, maintaining the highest quality performance product. As a company, they actually remain to be the oldest customers of Gore-Tex® in the world outdoor market. Marmot endeavors to provide outdoor gear that is authentic, innovative and best in class. In every area of business practice that they engage in, they passionately seek the highest level of quality, performance, service and value.

I think this is a cute jacket, but I am definitely returning it. It comes up under insulated jackets, and I even called Zappos about this coat, asking if what it is made of, would be good for the north country, and she said yes. I just assume she didn't understand where I meant. This would be ok where I live during the spring or fall, but definitely not in the winter. I like it, but not enough to pay this much for a spring coat. Too bad. I had high hopes for it. I did think it looked a little thin, but that is what I am looking for but thin but warm. I know they exist as I already have an older one...just have to keep looking.

This is an awesome jacket! It is lightweight yet warm. It is very, very comfortable to wear. I love the insulated front and it's kind of like wearing a vest without wearing a vest! The fit is flattering and is true to size. I got the raspberry w/lime trim because I wanted to be visible when I'm walking on the sidewalk-less country roads in my small town. My 14 year-old granddaughter also thought my jacket was cool!
I'd also recommend: North Face, Mountain Hardware

I absolutely love this jacket. It is very flattering, lightweight, comfortable and warm, all at the same time. It runs true to size. Get it, you'll be glad! Also, Zappos was amazing as usual with their quick delivery - amazing.

Oh man, do I love this jacket! I bought Marmot because my friend had gotten a new North Face one before we went on a trip to NYC and I didn't want to look like twins. This thing is so awesome, though. It's not only crazy warm because of the material and thumb holes on the sleeves, it also grabs around the butt in a way that I've never had a jacket do before that kept my booty so warm! I am always cold so this is a big plus! I am thinking of getting it in another color too. Hi-ya!

Very comfortable and easy to move around in. I play an outside racket sport all winter and this jacket is very easy to play in.
