Men’s Marmot Precip - Lightweight, waterproof, sufficiently long (especially the back), breathable, & a windbreaker. Perfect for hiking & traveling. A hi-tech upgrade to my 10 year old Patagonia waterproof jacket.

Marmot Precip - I bought this jacket to replace a 5 year old Marmot Precip which is getting pretty grubby. The light weight and packability is a big plus for me, as I've found that I usually spend more time with it in my pack than wearing it. The new jacket seems to be made a little nicer than the old. I hope it serves me as well.

I have always wanted a light, waterproof jacket for the summer, but the quality names (Marmot being high on that list) were a little too expensive to justify. I got a gift card from work and figured I'd bite the bullet on the rest, but Zappos had the exact jacket I've coveted on sale! Short version of the rest of the story is that it's exactly what I expected. The second day after I received it, the weather took a typical Fall turn. In fact, I found myself in a situation where it was raining pretty hard and I needed to walk to a restaurant for lunch. My pants got wet, but my upper body was completely dry. I also tend to overheat pretty easily, so I didn't want a typical rain coat; I needed something that breathed. I could tell in this one trek that I'd never have a heat problem in this jacket. With the hood up and the cuffs tight, I could barely tell it was on, aside from the fact that I wasn't getting wet. My only issue is that one of the velcro tabs on the front flap was only partially sewn, but I should be able to stitch that myself without compromising the integrity of the jacket. All told, I can see why these are at the retail price. It's a technical garment that does exactly what it advertises. Getting it shipped to me for almost half that price was an unavoidable deal. On top of that, I had a question about how to use my gift card, so I tried the Zappos online chat option. I got top-tier service (as usual) and more. In summary, if you're researching lightweight, waterproof jackets suitable for warmer, inclement weather, the Marmot Precip will show up in most lists of top options. Having worn it for nearly a month in a number of different weather conditions, I'd put it at the top of my list.

I saw my mother with a similar jacket for use in light (not too cold) weather. This serves perfectly to keep me dry and looking good. Not much else to say about a simple product.

About Marmot
Marmot clothing and equipment began in April 1971, when two University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were in the Juneau Icefields of Alaska on a school project in Glaciology. While atop those glaciers, it was there amongst the students that the concept of a Marmot club was born. In order to become a Marmot, they had to climb a glacieted peak with another Marmot. In addition, everyone was president.
During that summer and up until 1973, Eric and Dave began making prototypes of down clothing in their dorm room. In addition to Eric and Dave, their friend Tom Boyce joined their ranks and opened a rental/retail shop under the name Marmot Mountain Works. Here is where the Marmot company was brought to life in the summer of 1974.
Marmot incorporates quality Gore-Tex® in their products, maintaining the highest quality performance product. As a company, they actually remain to be the oldest customers of Gore-Tex® in the world outdoor market. Marmot endeavors to provide outdoor gear that is authentic, innovative and best in class. In every area of business practice that they engage in, they passionately seek the highest level of quality, performance, service and value.

This jacket was exactly as it appeared on-line and it was perfect. The sizes seem to run a little bit big.

First time buyer of a breathable rain coat. Got so tired of getting soaked wearing a stupid windbreaker. Took it for a test drive (walk) thru a pretty good rain in about 60 degree weather w/ no wind and sure enough it kept me dry and not sweaty, even when wearing it inside a store. A cool feature is when you shake it out lightly it becomes almost completely dry! But my jeans got wet so I'm going to buy the matching pants. My only complaint is the hood tie system. I went to an outdoor and looked at all of them and literally all of them stink. The pull ties are all hard to find and/or have tensioners that are also hard to find or hard to operate. This jacket has both problems, but it's par for the course for these kinds of jackets. Maybe some company will become intelligent and get ahead of their competitors and come up w/ something that is more user friendly. So 4 stars because of the pull tie weakness.

Very light, not sure how it handles the rain yet. There is no lining, so it tends to stick to your skin. Overall good value, though.

The jacket is very durable; I used it when I did some light skiing this past winter. The pockets are easily accessible while wearing and the string adjustments are comfortable. After taking a few spills I was really only wet around my neck area where the jacket is opened up. For the price, it is hard to beat for a good general outdoor outer shell.

This jacket is fantastic! I was debating between this and a North Face jacket and I am glad I got this one! It is amazingly comfortable and very breathable.

It's comfortable. It's light. It will protect you from the wind or a 20 min. of a light rain. After that the water will be sipping through the material. Stay away if you're looking for a good protection from the elements.

I love this jacket! It is keeping me nice and dry so far (which can be a challenge in the Puget Sound area!). It runs a little large, so be aware of that when ordering, though I enjoy the ability to layer.
