I sought out these boots because they come in B width. I have worn three pair of LL Bean Cresta hikers for over the past 20 years. These Lowa boots are equally comfortable, but are lighter weight.

The Lowa Renegade GTX is the most disappointing boot I have ever tried to walk/hike in. I have a considerable amount of hiking experience, mostly in the Rocky Mountains. Over the years I have owned a number of hiking boots (including a great pair of Lowas). The boots have ranged in price from expensive to moderate and were made by various well known boot manufacturers. For me the Lowa Renegade GTX raises the question of when does a boot turn into something other than a hiking boot? In my mind this boot has crossed the line from a hiking boot into something else. In making this boot light weight ankle support is seriously compromised, the standard issue insole that comes with the boot is so thin you can feel the lugs on the sole of the boot through it. The boot lace eyelets will chew a hole in your foot because the material the uppers are made of is high tech but very thin. This is a boot for casual wear and not a serious hiking boot.

I'd also recommend: LL Bean Cresta Hiker (a bit heavier/stiffer)

This is, by far, the best feeling boot I have ever worn. The one exception is that the toe box narrows a bit too much on my right foot causing my third toe to feel the end of the boot unless I set my heel firmly to the back of the heel pocket and lace the boot tightly, which is not uncomfortable once I lock my foot in position with the third set of hooks from the top. This sets the laces below the third hooks and allows me to tighten the above two hooks independently. I wear size 15 and have difficulty finding a boot that fits. I will order another pair when available to use for the outdoors and begin to use the ones I have to work in. These are very supportive boots with good traction on any of the terrain I have used them. They are a great product.

I purchased my Lowa boots about 5-6 months ago. Like other reviews, I wear work boots for a living. I was wearing Georgia's and then switched to Wolvereines. I ended up having plantar fascia issues. I did not switch back to Georgia's because the model I wore does not have removable insoles. So I started thinking. The most comfortable boots I wear are typically my hiking boots. I set out to buy a good pair of hiking boots. I purchased Lowa Renegades. I also purchased insoles from Foot Fix online. Best pair of boots I have ever worn. I have also hiked in them and they are great in any setting, right out of the box.

Have had my Renegades for only a short time. I have a narrow foot and I'm glad this boot comes in a width other than wide. I got the same size as my old vasque but in a narrow this time the lowa fits a lot more snug and even seems to be about a half inch shorter, even with that the lowa feels much more comfortable. I replaced the shoe strings so I would have more room to tie them and sprayed the boots with silicone to help with the waterproofing. I am happy with these boots I love there looks and feel.

I bought these boots not to do extensive hiking in, but because I have an advanced tendon problem in my foot, and even with my custom orthotics, my foot needs a lot of ankle support that I can't get in an athletic shoe. These are perfect! Comfortable right out of the box and a great, sturdy shoe.
