This is the third pair of these boots I have ordered from Zappos. Great fit and the wide suites me fine. I wear these boots 365 days a year which includes around 60 days a year of hiking and hunting. My pack runs between 15 to 25 pounds and these boots support me well. Occasionally I am lucky enough to pack out an additional 75 pounds and they still work okay. This over some of the rough country in the Blue Mountains.

Best pair of hiking or every day boots you can buy. On the expensive side but well worth the money. They will last forever!

Great pair of boots, comfortable right out of the box with little to no break in period. Ordered a full size larger and they fit perfectly. Will purchase again.

Really, really wanted to love this boot. The heel part, however, slipped in the back. Not the boot's fault, just a matter of the last not quite fitting my particular foot. Obviously well made. Comfortable when I wore it around the house.

I love these boots! I just hiked 11 miles and a 2000ft elevation change, my first day wearing them, and they felt great! Coming downhill was a bit uncomfortable, but pretty minimal I think for a pair of brand new, unbroken-in shoes; plus downhill is always rougher anyways. 2nd and 3rd day in a row wearing them still proved to be comfortable. I am really enjoying these new boot, plus I think they look great too!

Bulky fit doesn't allow much natural foot movement. Sole is moderately stiff. Materials and construction seem fairly good but not worthy of this slightly higher price-point.

They are incredibly well made and feel solid as a rock. They run a little small so I ordered one size up and extra wide. They fit perfect and I look forward to many miles of exploring while wearing them.

Love the shoes. Fit, comfort, durability are all excellent. No need to break these in. I'm an avid dog walker and situated in very cold weather during winter months. Though I plan to use year-round. Glad I got them.

I was hesitant to order this boot due to cost and styling. Looked too "mannish" for me but having a narrow width I am at the mercy of the few manufacturers that make narrow shoes. Add in the fact my 15 year old LLBean boots were on their last strap so to speak, I took the plunge and ordered these. I wear them every day when walking my dogs in the woods and while at first the tongue was a bit stiff, it has relaxed and no longer bothersome. Boot fits true to size and very comfortable. If I get 15 years out of these, they will have been worth the price. Good purchase and I would recommend them.

After trying 5 pairs of boots, I figured I owed it to Zappos to write a review as a thank you for their patience. I was looking for my perfect boot: under $200, great ankle and arch support, sturdy foot bed, great traction, light as a feather, versatile, and great looking. I live in Salomon trail running shoes, but after injuring my ankle last year, I needed something more sturdy. I have a narrow heel with wide forefoot, normally wear a size 10. Here is my take on the boots I tried. Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid - light, no ankle or arch support, too wide all through the foot bed but short on length, poofy looking on. I could feel the ground through the thin sole. Good for walking on groomed trails or as sneakers. Return. Salomon Comet 3D GTX - sturdy boot for backpacking, great ankle and foot support, well-lugged sole. Great boot for the price if I was carrying a pack. Heavier than I wanted and not very versatile. Return. Salomon X Ultra Mid 2 GTX - I didn't like the look at all so didn't even try them on. Return. Salomon Ellipse Mid LTR GTX - these boots are my runner up. They have a nice traditional look and the upper is good quality. Ankle support is great, very light. I love the Salomon Contagrip sole. No break in period. Great price. However, they skimped on the inside of the boot. No arch support, flimsy uncontoured innersole which is not removable, little padding in the tongue and ankle cuff, rough interior material. I prefer thin socks and I could feel the ankle rub. Not comfy on my bare feet (not versatile). A great boot if you normally wear thicker socks. Return. Lowa Ferrox GTX Mid WS - Winner! Nice modern look without being flashy (I got the light grey/mint). Great ankle and foot stability when laced up tight. Laces to toe means great form fit. Light as a feather. Forefoot is slightly narrower than Salomons but a size 10 left enough toe room for going downhill without touching. Nicely padded tongue and ankle collar. Interior lining is comfy even on my bare feet. Cons: Little arch support in the removable inner sole. Treads are decent - should suffice except maybe on slippery rock. I thought the toe cap was a hard plastic but it's just suede. Toe caps on my Salomons take a beating. Time will tell. So I didn't find the perfect boot, but the Lowas are close. I can throw them on for a short walk or a day hike, and I can wear them on the plane without looking like a backpacker. They have a close fit so my slim jeans fall over the boot top easily. Perfect to hike through terminals or on mountain trails, which is the versatility I want. For the price, I hope the material and GoreTex hold up for years.

Great Boots! I had a couple of the lace-up hooks break after a a years or so. The boots were only used for hiking and mountaineering and have seen their fair share of abuse both on rocky mountains and rocky saltwater beaches. Waterproofing has held up and were warm with wool socks @-10F in mountain/glacial snow fields. The souls have held up nicely.

A friend told me about these boots before I went to training so I thought that I would give them a shot. I bought two pairs so I could rotate them out. I trained, pre-training, in them and literally pounded the hell out of them and took them to training with me. I did close to 100 miles total in each boot averaging a 55 pound ruck between prep and training, some rain, some sand, and lots of dirt and rocks. Never once did I have an issue other than a broken lace (luckily I always carry spares). I did retire them though after training. These boots are light, tough and 100 percent quality. While other guys were dealing with tearing and ripping boots, I was rucking. I definitely recommend them, but pay attention to the size. They run narrow and short.

I was looking for a good quality waterproof walking boot in a wide fitting but the wide in this shoe is more like a medium in other hiking boots. Too narrow for me. Also the boot is stiff both in the sole and the uppers. Unfortunately back they go.

I love these boots so much that I have two pair in different colors. They are true to size - no need to go up half a size - provide excellent support and ankle protection, and are very high quality. Pay a little more and get a boot that lasts.

These hiking boots are very comfortable for me. I like the ease of getting in and out of the shoe. I have wide feet and this is the only boot I know of that comes in wide. Wish they made the lower version in wide as well.

High quality, sturdy hiking shoe. I found them to run about 1.5 sizes short, I am a 12.5 EE, I ended up needing the 14 W in this shoe, but I also needed to accommodate orthotics.

Buy Lowa boots, you will not be sorry. They are the best and I am the hardest person to fit with shoes of any kind. Even good athletic shoes with special insoles are not comfortable to me. My feet, ankles and knees would hurt even just walking around the mall! I searched Zappos for narrow width hiking boots and found Lowa. I ordered a pair and wore them on the carpet several times to make sure that they would be OK but the proof really does not come until you put them to the test! The first day that I wore them out hiking with my dogs I knew I had found a winner. These Lowa boots are so comfortable that I wish I could wear them with everything, everyday (and do so to the extent I can). I hike, run dogs and wear them in place of athletic shoes. I have no pain when wearing my Lowas. They are not heavy on my feet (I have a pair of expensive brand walking shoes and they feel like lead weights), I did not have to break them in and have had no blisters or sore spots, they are not too hot for our New Mexico summers, give great traction for hiking and after about a year of daily use they are still in like new condition except for the dirt! I am sold on their quality and comfort. I wish Lowa made high heels.

I am on my 3rd pair of these boots and I've never had a more comfortable or durable boot. I normally get about 2 1/2 to 3 years wear out of them and don't do any maintenance to them at all. I ride my motorcycle about 25 to 30,000 miles a year and wear them when I ride because when I arrive at a destination I can walk for long periods with these boots on. They are fantastic!

I wear these boots instead of snow boots all winter. They are amazingly warm, waterproof and comfortable. I can walk around in them all day, and be outside in 2 feet of snow and they feel great. My last pair of boots were Lowa, too. Needed a bigger size because my feet grew. Now my mom wears the old boots. They are indestructible.

Excellent light-hiker. They work for me if I'm carrying anything up to about 35 lbs and are pretty stable (enough flex to be comfortable, but too much flex for a heavy pack or long distances off-trail) and very light. Great traction both up and downhill. Feels like wearing a running shoe on the trails until you misstep and they keep your ankle from crunching. My last pair of regular Renegade GTX lasted about 600 miles on three continents and were comfortable and confident on everything from deep snow and ice to the Amazon to the Sonoran desert. The black all-leather looks really sharp, but unlike the normal Renegades, the leather-on-leather construction of the Pros squeak like an angry hamster when they're straight out of the box. Otherwise, they don't require any real break-in time. My only real complaint is that the stock insoles leave much to be desired in the way of arch support (true of every Lowa boot I've ever worn). A pair of Superfeet fixes the problem perfectly. They also run about a half size small, so try on a pair somewhere before buying online.

This is the second pair of Lowa boots that I've purchased. My fuzzy friend decided to eat my last pair or they would still be my go-to boots. They are overkill for the kind of hiking I do, but well worth the tiny bit of extra weight and the price for the amount of support they offer. Fit great straight out of the box, zero break in time. Well worth the price!
