Good winter shoe - At least in northern California, this shoe is a good winter shoe. Very nice soft but tough pebble grain oil tanned leather. Water beads off without any treatment. This shoe really does seem to run a full size smaller than marked, but it has a very foot-shaped toe box so I am able to wear it (I ordered a half size up) a bit shorter than most shoes. Next time I would order a full size up. Very attractive styling with a stable and comfortable cushy sole. I found the instep (medium width) a little snug, but I have a high arch. The orthotics in this shoe are pretty cheap foam but can be replaced with better ones (you do have to rip them out and scrape out the parts that are glued down, but it is pretty easy). The shoe is lined with a very thin synthetic fleece, except for the heel area which has a slightly smoother fiber (not leather) lining. Especially with cotton socks, they tend to get pulled down and bunch in the shoe, but with wear this seems to be improving. I wish they had left this nice leather unlined, except the heel which should have a smooth leather lining, but for the price, this is still a very nicely made shoe.
