Classic Trango fit! Being my 5th pair of Trangos, I can tell you that this is the all around best fitting model I've worn. After climbing ice the past 5 yrs in Nepal's, I enjoy the lighter weight and easier hikability of this Trango Prime. I use it primarily in CO during winter where complete waterproofing isn't usually required, but I don't believe the description on this site is entirely accurate (to my knowledge, they do not have a GoreTex lining). Aside from that, traction in snow is improved and it's a solid boot for above 0 conditions. One final comment, the insole is slightly better than the thin felt in previous models, but you'll still want to throw in a better after market model. If it's a higher vol insole, you may want to size up (.5).

This is a great choice if you are looking for a hybrid mountaineering boot. The Trango Prime is a fully crampon-compatible with a stiff shank, but much lighter than a traditional mountaineering double boot. My Black Diamond Sabretooth crampons fit perfectly which makes this a great boot for mixed climbing and glacier travel. La Sportiva assigns the synthetic materials a water resistant designation, which means application of Nikwax or similar waterproofing treatment is recommended. Since most users will use full-size gaiters when encountering snow, the mini-gaiter collar with drawstring closure is probably not necessary. I highly recommend this mid-level mountaineering boot from the La Sportiva Trango line.

In my opinion these boots are not waterproof. I spent a week trekking and for 3 days the boots were fine. My feet were sopping wet to the extent that I had to wring out my socks. The tops of my socks and the boots were fine - so no water had got in through the top. It had to have seeped in through the lining somehow. To be fair, (and be aware) they are described (on the web) as (only) having a water-repellent material upper with an external coating.

These boots have exceeded my expectations - stiff sole for mountaineering, and my step-in black diamond serac crampons fit perfectly. Insulated very well, yet lightweight. The locking eyelet at the ankle crease is a nice touch. The cinching top gaiter is also nice to keep out the snow.
