If you carry gear with you, then these shorts are perfect. Plenty of room, lightweight, fit like board shorts and they breathe well. All the pockets are sewn in, so no lumpy pockets that need ironing after washing. Easy washing in the field, just hang to dry and in less then 30 minutes on a sunny day, there dry and ready to wear. Highly recommend.

Very comfortable lightweight shorts. Well constructed. My only minor complaint would be that the waistband needs a couple more belt loops, as the shorts can 'droop' if my belt is loose (not a good look for a 60+ man, as one can imagine). Pockets are roomy, but not excessive. Snap button does stay closed, but I did order a slightly larger waist size - this could be problematic if you order a snug fit.
Brands I'd also recommend: Columbia, North Face

Great shorts! My husband really loves them. The only thing he mentioned was that the wax on the shorts is coming off on to his light leather seats, which makes it look dark/dirty. Strange. Other than that he loves the look/wear of the shorts.

The Kuhl Ambush cargo shorts have a generous fit, working ventilation system, and excellent cargo pockets. By far the best pocket layout of any Kuhl item that I have tried on or owned. These factors with the gusseted crotch make them the most comfortable shorts I have ever worn. Unfortunately, the waist band lining is pulling away from the back of the snap. This may because of the French fly snap closure Kuhl uses instead of a superior button closure. I am afraid that they are not durable like the Kuhl Crag Runners I own that began to disintegrate after light use. Additionally, I do not appreciate the patina color process. The Gun Metal color I ordered, which resembles parkerized metal, is mellowing and streaking with each wash. I am not a hippie. I want comfortable and durable shorts. The Ambush shorts met one part of my criteria. I am disappointed and likely will not order any Kuhl product. If you can afford such expensive disposable shorts buy these and enjoy them while they last.
