Michigan-born Kenneth Jay Lane graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1954 and moved to New York for a stint as a Vogue Art Director. This whet his appetite for fashion, and made him realize that he wanted to design and create the products he saw around him. Shoes were his starting point - he worked on collections for Delman and Christian Dior - and it was whilst working for the latter that he began to embellish shoes with rhinestones and play around with ideas for jewelry. Before long Kenneth Jay Lane collections were being snapped up by hot boutiques across Manhattan, as well as royalty and movie stars, and he was proving that costume jewelry could be as beautiful as the "real thing" .
Fast-forward to today and the Kenneth Jay Lane name has become a by-word for glamour. This season heralds a fabulous collection that is perfect for Fall's love of all oversized jewelry. Shimmering crystal- encrusted bangles add evening glamour to the most simple outfit, or the fabulous gold and black Kenneth Jay Lane necklaces are perfect with Fall's chic black dresses. This is very cheap looking and it looks like costume jewelry you'd pick up at a teeny bopper store for cheap. Plus, its designed awkwardly so that the stone is ultra heavy and swings the whole piece to the side of the finger. I don't know how you'd even keep this on, if you actually wanted to be seen wearing it.
