I was in the market for a new pair of hikers. I hike occasionally but need a sturdy yet comfortable boot. This boot was recommended by two female park rangers. They wear them daily to work in. I have worn them several times to hike and they required zero breaking in and wear comfortably.

Perhaps I got a bum pair of these, judging from all the other reviews. I did find a review of the mens version that echoes my concerns, however. I have been a Keen customer for many years now, and I have loved every shoe and boot I have purchased. These boots are characteristically comfortable and attractive, but a good hiker they are not, unless conditions are perfectly dry. I found right away that if I stepped on even a slightly wet sidewalk, the ground started to slide beneath my feet. Forget about a wet rock or wet steep spot. They are still relatively new, so I thought that maybe the soles needed to be broken in a bit to wear off the smooth bottom. But today I sit here with an ice pack on my knee having just slipped on a rough small patch of ice that any other boots I own would have handled with ease. I live on the side of a mountain, so am no rookie at this. I consider these boots to be dangerous, and am questioning whether or not I should ever go for another pair of Keens, even shoes, if the soles are now going to be like this. Did they change materials for the soles? If so, bad idea.

AMAZING BOOT!!! I love this boot! I wore it for the first time today in ice and snow and it was perfect. My feet stayed warm and dry, and I had great traction and ankle support. The styling is quite groovy and construction seems pretty good. Arch support is good. I did order a half size larger than usual (thanks to other reviews) and am very happy I did. If you need some day hikers, buy these!
I'd also recommend: pf flyer, born, simple, macbeth

I love these boots. I went a half size up and the fit was perfect. There was no breaking-in time at all; I wore them on a 7-mile hike right after I got them and my feet were completely comfortable up and down the mountain trails. Thanks to small bunions I have trouble finding shoes that don't hurt, but these let me forget the bunions are there at all. Wish I could wear them with everything.

Following the other reviews, I bought this a half size up from what I usually wear. I was a bit nervous about this, because at first the shoes felt too big. But I wore them with hiking socks, and after a day of hiking my feet swelled a little bit, they were perfect and I knew I picked the right size and the right size. So order at least half a size up.

Great boots - I love these boots! I normally wear a 7 in regular shoes, and I bought a 7.5 in these. They probably would fit better in an 8, so keep that in mind when buying. Otherwise they are super comfortable and definitely stylish.
