Jan Lewis, Murray Pletz and Skip Yowell lived in Seattle when they created their first framepack and the first panel loading daypack. Murray had just won a design contest for "The Best New Use of Aluminum" for the framepack the trio had fabricated in the transmission shop of Skip's uncle. Once climbers on Mount Rainier and other Northwest peaks saw the new pack, they wanted one for themselves. The rest is JanSport history.

I already have one in red since 2011 and it still works. I ordered this one in orange to have something different for the spring. These backpacks are tough. Load them up, they won't disappoint.

Exactly what I was looking for. Several storage compartments plus smaller pockets for pens, calculator, etc. Solid product overall.

These are truly the best backpacks for school if you want something basic that will last for ever. Heavy duty all the way. Even better is dealing with Zappos. Ordered this backpack as a gift right before christmas, I think on the 21st of december. It arrived on the 23rd or 24th with standard shipping. I would not hesitate to order from Zappos.

Super quality, basic backpack that your basic student will appreciate. The leather bottom is brilliant and prevents dirt, scuffs and holes that are inevitable when the backpack is tossed on cement and in school hallways, etc. great basic functionality without too much detail or too many pockets or other gadgets. Just basic Jansport quality and value for the student who really does not want a flashy backpack. And it wears like iron.
