The greatest off-road racing shoe ever! If you're a minimalist, want the lightest, most comfortable, fastest shoe with tons of grip, and you have narrow feet, I seriously doubt you'll ever find anything better. I do lots of 8 and 10k's here in the wet, muddy Pacific Northwest, and these haven't missed a beat in their near year of hard racing. I'm 6'1" and about 190lbs., and bomb the downhill sections very hard and have never lost traction. I love when something delivers as good or better than promised. Inov-8 rules!

These shoes are really lightweight and low to the ground. They feel great on the fireroads and singletrack that I usually run. If you are prone to rolling your ankles, you might want to look at something with a little more support. These are basically racing flats with traction.

These are great minimalist trail shoes. I've run with them on muddy Pacific Northwest trails and been very happy with them. They're also great in snow & ice. I was just back in the Midwest and got excellent traction in those conditions. Overall, I like that they're lightweight and don't have a high heel. They work fantastically for my midfoot stride.

Best trail running shoes! I just did my first run in my new X-Talon 212s today and was very pleased. Made my feet feel light as a feather and gave me total confidence as I plowed through lots of mud and slippery terrain on a single track. Can't wait to run in them again! Although they felt somewhat snug when I first put them on, once I started running in them they felt perfect!

The shoes are very comfortable, very light and look good. The only drawback is that they don’t last long. The nubs on the bottom wear out quickly (cross country running) and the material over the toe on the front comes unstitched fairly quickly as well.

About inov-8
All inov-8 footwear goes through extensive testing by enthusiasts and elite international athletes, to guarantee they perform like they should. Their whole design development process centers on optimizing the end user's performance. The uppers of inov-8 shoes are extremely functional with mesh in the forepart and tongues for maximum breathability. This creates a good climate that helps you run at your best. When you run through water and the shoe gets soaked, it creates a pumping action that expels the water from the shoe allowing it to dry quickly. The lace webbing is positioned allowing a secure foothold without altering the natural alignment of the metatarsals. The back of their shoes are cleanly cut which allows your Achilles tendon to experience high levels of comfort and minimum restriction- particularly when running down hill.
The inov-8 team is made up of experts with proven track records in the footwear fields of sports, mountaineering, marine, outdoor and industrial design and development. This linked with a strong bio-mechanics input, coupled with a test team of elite athletes in the mountain sport environment gives inov-8 the creative culture for next generation products.

Bought these shoes and the Gator socks (by Inov8). After a short trail run to test fit, I immediately put them to the test with a rocky 10 mile trail race with terrain that included: smooth packed dirt, sandy washes, hard rock, and very loose screed rock. I was very impressed with the shoes right away. Not only are they extremely light, but they seem to have a little extra room in the toe box so you’re not slamming your toes into the ends of the shoes on descents. The tread patter is kinda like the old Nike waffle board pattern, but the knobs are spaced out enough so they don’t pick up and hold rocks. A big plus when running on trails as I described. The bottom sole is a little thin (for reduced weight I guess) and you can feel the tread nubs on asphalt, but it’s not annoying. I wish the soles were a little thicker for my type of terrain as those partially exposed jutting rocks can start to take a toll on the really long trail runs. I’ve tried every version of New Balance, Nike, and Pearl Izumi’s off-road trail shoes, and this shoe is by far my favorite out of the bunch!

Great shoes: light, good traction in rough trail and woods conditions. No extra padding to absorb water in wet conditions. Run narrow though so had to get size larger to fit ok.

Love ‘em! Super, super lightweight. As a feather! Stable and not a lot of extra material... they hug my foot as well as support it wonderfully. And the big bonus is that so far, no blisters!!! A common ailment in other shoes. Well worth the price tag!

Great shoe! Light and very comfortable. I have a narrow foot and this shoe fits me well and was true to size. I normally wear a 12 and a 12 fit me nicely. I haven't had the shoe on any rocky trails so I can't attest to it's rock eating ability but it does seem to spread the impact of rocks over the foot well with no sharp points. The shoe does not have any motion control and is exactly what I was looking for, but is a shoe I can run high mile runs in. If you're looking for a light, minimalist shoe the Inov-8 XTalon 212 is for you.

A very light weight shoe with limited padding and arch support. Great for casual use, but not very practical for high impact activities.

An ideal minimalist trail running shoe. Perfect for trail runs if you like to street run in Vibram Fivefingers.
Brands I'd also recommend: Vibram Fivefingers, Feelmax, Terra Plana

I love these shoes. They are light, flexible and comfortable. They allow the foot to move more naturally, which strengthens the foot and lower leg. Great shoes!

Great shoe. Very light and comfortable. I use in a sport where I run, stop, shift and run in different directions on rocky, sandy, grassy, and wood plank terrain. They have given me the stability and grip I need in all those areas. Already bought a second pair.

Great shoe for trail running. I have used this shoe on trail runs and a couple of races. Very good traction and flexible but protective sole. Not so good on pavement due to large, widely spaced lugs. I actually removed the insole for improved flexibility and it was comfortable without.

These shoes have unbelievable grip and are very nimble. Slightly tight through the forefoot and my foot is not wide. I can't wear socks with these or they are too tight, however not one problem with blisters or chafing without socks. Overall, really cool shoes that can handle any trail.
Brands I'd also recommend: new balance

Overall, great shoe. Super light and comfortable. As other reviewers have pointed out, they are a bit narrow. Since I have a narrow foot, I didn't hesitate to order them.

I was looking for a shoe that was minimal/barefoot style, but had good traction for trail running. I love these! Super light weight and the tread on the bottom adds just enough protection from rugged ground. My foot is on the narrow side and the fit was perfect. Better for the trail then the road.

For those interested in barefoot running this is a great transition shoe. Great ground feel (even better if you pull the insole), great grip. Appears just like the X-Talon 190 except with a full toe-rand. My feet are wide and these stretched to accommodate. If you feel you need support, these are not for you. These are like slippers with gnarly lugs. Despite another review, these ARE for serious mountain runners.
