- The brand advises that a white wax film may appear on the surface of the rubber boots and that it can be wiped off with a damp cloth. This "blooming" effect is not a defect. Blooming is caused when the boots are exposed to extreme temperatures or temperature swings and the wax helps prevent the rubber from weathering.

I wear a size 5.5 woman's and Youth size 4 fits great. I also bought the fleece socks youth size 4-6. The boot fits tighter w/ the socks but not uncomfortable. Because they are youth size, they do come 1-2 inches below the knee. The adults ones are taller. Since I am 5 ft tall, they look fine. Love my Hunters!

Made in China. Buyer beware. If you think (as I did) that you were buying boots made in Scotland, you had better make sure. Because the box these boots came in clearly states Made in China. Admittedly, I might be over reacting as most everything is made in China. But, the first pair of Hunters I bought for my daughter were made in Scotland. I liked the idea that my money was supporting an independent company steeped in tradition. Now that goes out the window with the Made in China tag. I won't be sending these back as they were a gift for my daughter, but I won't be buying another pair either.

Finally boots that fit in the calf! I have purchased and returned 3-4 different rainboots (Huntress, Tretorn etc). All have been too tall and too tight in the calf. These Youth Hunters are the best! I am 5'2" and have a 15" calf. I wear a 6.5 shoe and the US 5 Youth size fit great. No bunching. Not a ton of room in the calf, but I can tuck jeans in and no "muffin top". If you buy the youth size in lieu of the adult, note that they come with two reflective markers on the back of the boot (looks fine to me). Give these boots a try if you've had issues with calf fit and boot height. Boot makers need to realize that the boot shaft comes up higher (close to the knee) on shorter women and that area is at a wider part of the calf. Bootmakers - either make a "petite" height boot or allow for a larger calf circumference.

I'm 5'2 and I found that the adult Hunter boots were overwhelming. I didn't mind the reflectors so I went ahead and bought a pair in the youth size! As a woman's size 6, I kept on debating between Youth 4 or Youth 5. I ended up choosing Youth 5 and I am quite pleased with it. They are loose with bare feet and shorts, but with jeans tucked in they fit more snug in the calf. They are still looser with thinner socks, and with thick socks they are perfect. My advice for ladies with size 6 feet: If you tend to go down in shoe size (5.5), choose Youth 4. If you tend to go up a size in shoes (7.5) or a TRUE size 6 that cannot fit into 5.5, choose Youth 5. You will want to wear thick socks with these in the winter and Youth 4 would be too snug.

Rain boots can be masculine, heavy and stiff. I was hesitate to purchase this because I couldn't wrap my head around the existence of comfortable rain boots. But I ordered these and it is light weight, flexible and ultimately comfortable! I'm usually 5/5.5/6 so I ordered a 4 in Chocolate. It fits great even w/ the fleece welly socks (in small). It's not too fitted where my feet can't breathe and it definitely has wiggle room w/ the socks. I definitely don't regret paying a ton w/ the socks for comfortable and feminine rain boots!
