Amazing. I've been running for 25 years and am finally dealing with hip pains/tight hamstrings. Incorporating these shoes in my running the last 2 weeks, my pains and tightness have decreased. Phenomenal on the trail and going down hill - you do not feel the impact like regular running shoes. What can I say, I'm a serious runner and I'm hooked. I am wearing my street shoe size, whereas in other running shoes I typically wear a 1/2 size larger than street shoe.

After exchanging these 3 times, I finally ended up with going only a half size bigger than my normal shoe size. In Nike, Mizuno, Salomon, and Brooks (I'm a bit of a running shoe whore) I always go a whole size to a whole size and a half bigger. That's why I exchanged them out so many times. Zappos customer service was super friendly and supportive of my upcoming race, that they would ship them next day before I even returned the ones I had on hand. This is my first pair of Hoka's to ever run in and I was nervous because they feel kind of clunky on and rubbed a bit on my ankle (they come up a little higher around the ankles than all my other shoes) while walking around the house before taking off outside. When it came time to take off and run they did not rub, they felt lightweight, and super duper cushy. I had zero problems. I told my husband after the race that I felt I could have kept going... They felt so great! I have a moderately flat arch and the support inserts that come with this shoe felt supportive enough to leave them in. Usually, I buy super feet inserts and add those in all my shoes. These were great as is, right out of the box. Love the bright neon yellow and coral red too. Hoka one one means "time to fly.". My PR was the best it's been in a long time...thanks to these shoes. So glad I gave them a chance. Read about them on runnersworld.com for top 5 for 2014 running shoes. Thank you to Hoka and Zappos.

I'd also recommend: Brooks, Nike, Mizuno, Salomon

I was really shocked at how differently these felt compared to the Tarmac. These are much more narrow - it's even difficult to put them on they are so narrow. One of the shoes (the left one) even had shorter laces on it, which made it even hard to put on. They compressed the sides of my feet. I'm going to give them some time to stretch a little - a let-down after wearing the Tarmacs.

I'd also recommend: saucony

I like these a lot. I'm hard to please with shoes because I need cushioning and good arch support. These are not as cushy as I expected, and the arch support leaves a little to be desired. That being said, they are comfortable to walk in, very breezy and cool. The shoe sort of sets in a base sole. There is a space between the bottom of the shoe and the big yellow base. The foot is supposed to sink into this base, and I guess it works. Don't like the tongue - lacing system, but these are neat shoes and I'm keeping them.

I'd also recommend: MBT sandals, Avila and Alegria

I had really high hopes for this shoe after reading so many glowing reviews of Hokas. The cushioning is indeed simply wonderful - it's like running on a cloud with some added stability. But I've had some serious blister issues after only a few short miles. They wear a blister on my heel, which I've never had with any other shoe. And worst of all, they wear a terrible blood blister on the side of my right foot. I was hoping to use these for long distance races because of the cushioning, but I'm afraid the blister issue will prevent that. I'm still cautiously using them on shorter runs to see if my feet get used to them, but so far they're simply not what I had hoped for. Looks like my tried and true Brooks Ghost will still be my go-to running shoe.
