Hobo was founded in 1991 by Toni Ray in Annapolis, Maryland on her dining room table.

Toni had been creating unique accessories for years as the co-founder of Georgetown Leather Design in Washington, DC., the 'in' place for the hippie crowd to buy cool leather goods during the 60's and 70's. In those days, the bags were made by hand in the basement of the shop. Toni's handcrafted leather goods were soon recognized as being fashionable and hip. Every piece had her signature style.

Then in 1991, she cashed in her life-savings, bought a beat-up van and convinced her daughter and future son-in-law, Koren and David, to head to New York to sell the first 'Hobo' collection.

Her philosophy for Hobo; women's accessories should be both stylish and practical. Toni believed that quality and 'cool' never go out of style. Her passion for creative design and purposeful details became a way of life at Hobo.

This philosophy resonated with women everywhere who were looking for fun, functional accessories to express their individual style. Over the years, Hobo's handbags and small leather goods have earned a loyal following for their practical features, iconic shapes and affordable pricing. WWD has called Hobo one of the country’s most "fun and funky" accessories brands.

In 2006, Toni turned over the brand to Koren and David Brewer, her family and business partners for those fifteen years. The second-generation Hobos follow the founding principles of fashion and function and still infuse the same passion and creativity into their vision for this ever-expanding lifestyle brand. Koren and her design team stay true to Toni's early philosophies, while exploring new and innovative ways to meet the needs of today's busy, fashion-savvy woman. As an added plus, Koren and David are thrilled to have Toni living two doors down to serve up handbag wisdom and help out with the couple's four kids.

Twenty years later, the Hobo brand has come a long way from handbags designed on the dining room table to a multi-million dollar accessory business. In March of 2012, Hobo opened its first flagship store in downtown Annapolis, MD, showing support and loyalty to its hometown and local community. The true heritage spirit of crafting fashionable, smart accessories in quality materials remains the driving philosophy of the company today.

Beautiful bag, very plain and simple. One thing: the interior of the bag is smaller than you might think because it ends at the zipper, which is about 2" from the top. So, it holds less than I thought it would, but it still works for me. Also, I am 5'5" and think the strap is just a bit long. The leather is soft and gorgeous, but it scratches very easily. I'm wondering how this bag will wear.

I was so excited to get this bag. I planned to use it for a long weekend in New York City and the style was perfect. The long hobo style to keep my hands free. The style is perfect - secured zippered pocket with 4 other pockets inside, and on the other side a roomy pocket with magnetic closure. I'm 5'4 and I adjusted the strap to the longest setting and it sat perfectly on my hip. Unfortunately this bag is going back. I ordered the Fawn color, which is a beautiful taupe/peach color, nothing like on the website. I actually went to my local Nordstrom to look at Hobo products in Fawn. It's a perfect shade for the warmer months. The problem is that the denim on my jeans rubbed against the bag and I can't get it off! I turned the bag around so it's on both sides, although I would have returned it even if it was on one side. I'm so disappointed but I do plan to order it in the Cognac color.

This is an elegantly sleek and sophisticated cross-body handbag, which in most cases would be an oxymoron, and it is made with top-notch glazed leather. You can fit so much in this handbag because it is really the size of a regular bag. I purchased it in the taupe color Stone, and it is a perfect neutral shade. However, I am 5'4" and slender. Here is where that nice, roomy size becomes a drawback. The dimensions of the bag were overwhelming on someone my height and build. Even with the strap adjusted to its shortest length, this large handbag hit me almost mid-thigh, which was not a good look and not comfortable at all. Another problem with the size is that although the bag itself is fairly light, you are tempted to fill it up as you would a regular handbag, which might give you some serious aches and pains in your neck and shoulder. I think if you are much taller and perhaps bigger overall, you might be able to get away with wearing this bag. But for me, I regretfully had to return it.

I have this bag in black. It is small enough to challenge those of us who are used to carrying everything plus a bottle of water in our over-sized totes. Once you make peace with the fact that this bag requires a minimalist approach, you will realize how great a bag it is. It fits my essentials and just a little bit more. The design makes everything accessible. The back pocket is perfect for a Kindle or a magazine. The inside pockets work perfectly for my subway card and my cell phone.

Very good looking. I am 5'4 and I don't think it's too big for me. My iPad fits perfectly in it and a few other things but not too much room. You have to be very organized with your stuff because it's very flat and doesn't expend. The color red is gorgeous. And the fabric inside is very cute.

A Christmas gift that lived up to the picture on the page. The inside fabric is an extra perk.
