- Waterproof full-grain leather upper.
- V-Lite design and construction.
- ion-mask™ waterproofing technology uses an invisible polymer mask at a molecular level in order to repel oil, water, and most other liquids without changing the look, weight, or feel of the shoe.
- Fully gusseted leather tongue.
- Soft padded leather collar.
- Moisture wicking textile lining.
- Rustproof hardware.
- Comfort-Tec contoured sockliner for all-day cushioning.
- Stabila-Flex contoured bi-fit board provides support without excess weight.
- Lightweight compression-molded EVA midsole.
- Exclusive Vibram® hiking outsole for stability and traction on all types of surfaces.
- ion-mask™:
- The plasma bonding process enables polymers to infuse the shoes/boots on a molecular scale, so ever single fiber, even on open-weave fabrics, is given a water-repellent polymer.
- Enhancing every fiber and layer (even the interior) eliminates the need for a waterproof membrane or "bootie construction", so the shoe/boot never loses any breathability.
- The absence of an additional membrane also means less weight in the construction, and it will not gain any weight when used in wet conditions because of it's water-repellent properties.
- The ion-mask™ process also keeps footwear cleaner longer by repelling dirt from the fibers and reducing staining.
- Finally, the ion-mask™ is very eco-friendly: minimal quantities of chemicals are needed, unlike traditional DWR's or membranes, and the process is activated at room temperature, making it climate-friendly and energy-efficient.
- Weight: 1 lb 3 oz
- Product measurements were taken using size 8. Please note that measurements may vary by size.

Like a Gore Tex boot - Better than Gore Tex, very light, good traction on smooth surface. I work in a carwash/detail shop, so traction is important as well as waterproof. A little tight around the ankles, my feet sweat a lot. It would have been nice to know that these are lightly insulated. Had these boots 2 weeks and with winter coming, I'll put them to the full test. Overall, very nice, Ion Mask is working well, easy to clean with a moist rag. And Zappos shipped these out in 1 day, a most trusted site for doing orders, very fast.
Brands I'd also recommend: Timberland, Bates

I have worn these boots every day at work for about a month now and couldn't be happier with them. They did not need any breaking in and feel like I'm wearing a stout pair of sneakers. They fit to size, have nice room in the toe box, and are very well padded. They seem to be well built and I think they look great too. It will be interesting to see how well they keep the water out with Hi-Tec's new waterproofing system. I had first bought a pair of Ugg Hardy boots that really hurt around my ankle. They were hardly padded around the collar and eyelets. They looked good but what good does that do if you can't stand weaing them. There's a reason Zappos is doing so well in business and that's because of their excellent service. Buying shoes/boots without being able to try them on in a store is difficult at best but Zappos makes it easy with their no question return policy. They also pay both ways for shipping, which is very fast. You just can't go wrong with them.

I LOVE these boots- between bunions and foot growth due to pregnancies, my boot situation was miserable. I have been finding that men\'s shoes work well for my feet, and these boots are no exception. After one short hike near town, I took them to the Olympic Peninsula for trekking around rainforests and beaches- dry, comfortable feet!! Love it! Plenty of wiggle room for my toes, yet enough support to not allow for blisters. Even ended up trail running a couple of miles in them. Best buy ever!

My size 11s were stolen while on their way to the US. They had been wonderful on a four-day hike in the Okavango Delta, easily coping with the rising water, and needed no breaking in. I bought half a size up this time to protect my toes on downhill hikes.

Buyer Beware. I have owned Hi-Tec boots in the past and always felt that they were OK for the money. I made the mistake this time of buying these higher end Hi-tecs hoping they would hold up a little longer and have better waterproofing. This time these boots were definitely not worth the extra $$. I haven’t even owned them for 7 months yet and here I am back on Zappos looking for a new pair of boots. Within three months, the soles separated from the boots both on the heel and on the toes. I glued the soles back on to try to get a little more life out of them, but as soon as the soles had separated these boots were as water proof as a sponge. Better off buying the cheaper version or another brand altogether.

Fit and finish are top notch, and what I've always gotten with HiTec's products. I've been a long time customer of this brand for twenty five years. Once broken in, I'm sure these boots will provide me with a great service life. Kudos to Zappos, for the delivery service upgrade an no extra charge!

I was looking for a good comfortable waterproof boot for everyday wear, working in the yard and a hike every now and then. Had a pair of Rockports previously and apparently they don't make the same style any longer. Bummer, they were great, lasted forever. These Hi-Tec boots seem to be made well, true to size, and fairly comfortable (after a few days of wear). I've had this pair for about a month now and am pleased with them so far.

After trying multiple high price hiking boots, I ended up back with Hi-Tec. This is my second pair of Hi-Tec boots. I hike 4000 foot mountains with these and I think they offer everything you would want in a premium boot. Super lite, super dry, excellent support, very rugged and topped of with a great durable Vibram slip resistant outsole. Save some money and give these boots a try. I marked them as “felt wider than marked” because I usually have to get a wide width, but both my Hi-Tec’s are standard width and fit me just fine. Broke them in (leather uppers) with a simple 4 mile trail walk and was hiking a 4200 foot mountain the next day. Awesome! As far as ZAPPOS, the service could not be better! They upgraded my shipping twice free of charge and processed my returns (made as simple a can be) within days. I am pretty sure they made little to nothing (it may have even cost them money) on this transaction, but they have created another loyal customer for a long time to come.

This is a good boot. A little pricey though. In response to the guy who left the bad review, these are not work boots. You don't buy a light hiker to weld or pour concrete in. Maybe you should consider a work specific boot for work. These boots perform exactly as they were designed to.

Very happy I chose Hi-Tec for my hiking/hunting needs in North Central British Columbia for two reasons: extremely good fit and extremely light weight. Also had no problem with moisture in wet meadows or perspiration from long hikes. My fellow hunters were not so fortunate!

I'm a police officer and wore these boots every day on patrol for almost 2 years now. They are comfortable but not that durable. I feel like they started falling apart kind of quickly but I've been too cheap to replace them. Like the other reviewer noted, the sole is separating from the leather also the stitching above the toes is breaking. Yes, I had these for a while and wear them every day, but like I said before, they began to fall apart a while ago and I just put up with it. Good for occasional use, not recommended for everyday work use.

This boot is very comfortable and fits well, but the leather does not hold up well to rugged trail hiking. After three weeks climbing in Colorado the leather was quite chewed up at the toe and the boots began leaking. The uppers on the Altitude IV are much more durable and never leaked after 3 years hiking.

Bought these for work boots in industrial setting. They are comfortable and run true to size. I think I purchased the wrong boots for my purpose. Thought they would be tough with rugged sole. They are very slippery when walking on snow. Otherwise - really a great boot.

Great looking boot with a long lasting sole, comfortable with good room in the toe box, aggressive tread design works well and waterproof. What more could you ask for from a boot. Would buy again.
