Great pair of shoes. Rugged sole. Previous pair lasted 5 seasons (only wear in winter). Solid eyelets that don't rust. Toe box a little big for my mostly flat and narrow feet.

Good boots. A bit stiff, but I probably need to wear them in a bit. The hooks at the top are good, they don't seem to snag on the bottoms of my pants like other boots sometimes do.

I have been wearing my Hi-Tec Altitude IV boots for about three weeks now and have been quite pleased with them. I find them to be a good fit even with my orthotic inserts and I get excellent support for my ankles. They have not leaked and are great for walking.

I had a pair of Altitude II shoes for several years and they finally wore out. They were the most comfortable hiking boot I had ever had. I was very surprised and pleased to find out that Hi-Tec had continued this line! My new Altitude IVs are everything the IIs were very comfortable with a good gripping tread. My duck feet (wide and flat) are very happy with the fit and support offered by this boot. The chocolate-colored IVs are also good looking.

This shoe has nice arch support and is very well cushioned. It\'s pleasant to walk in and has a nice and tall toe box. However, the toe box is also very pointed and after wearing the shoe for a while my little toes start to feel crowded. Also, I should note that I am wearing this shoe in a wide size when I usually buy normal with shoes.

Additional Brand Information

HI-TEC SPORTS was founded in 1974 in the appropriately named village of Shoeburyness, in Essex, England. The company’s original success grew from the breakthrough design and development of Hi-Tec's first ever shoe, THE HI-TEC SQUASH, specifically designed for the then fast growing game of squash. An industry benchmark then and now, few shoes in athletic footwear history have recorded unit sales of over 18 million pairs worldwide to date. The Hi-Tec Squash shoe remains Britain's all time best selling sports shoe model to this day.

It was not until 1982 that the Hi-Tec brand name and logo were globally launched as a result of our decision to become a major worldwide sports brand. The innovative, successful global development of Hi-Tec shoes became a casebook study at a prestigious university. Today Hi-Tec is proud to report that there are over 500 Hi-Tec styles being commercialized throughout 80 countries world-wide, under the Hi-Tec Outdoor, Hi-Tec Court, Hi-Tec Golf, Hi-Tec Sport, Urban collections and Magnum shoe brands; a whole family of great products for sports and footwear enthusiasts.

Hi-Tec almost singularly focuses on developing attractive, comfortable, lightweight high-quality shoes at a fair "true value" price. Hi-Tec applies high technology build processes and leverage innovative materials to ensure the ultimate in comfort, whether your needs are performance-oriented, or more leisure wear centric.

Hi-Tec is: easy, friendly, contemporary, comfortable, and accessible.

This is an excellent boot when you need a little more than a sneaker on a rainy day, in the snow or in cold weather. Added protection and support and very durable. Brown is the best looking color. Perfect for raking leaves, hiking or just heading out for a walk.

Love this boot so much I have bought it 4 times. I used to work at an airport in all weather conditions. I had to replace them because the surface I worked on was extremely rough. The boots never lost their waterproof quality. Since I have stopped working there I am looking for an upgrade from the HiTec family. Good buy.

Bought for my husband after he tried others. Both of our boys own the Altitude IV in youth sizes. After my husband tried several others and hated them, I just went to Zappos and bought these for him. I asked him tonight what he thought about them after hiking and camping in them: "Best pair of shoes I've ever owned."

The boots fit perfectly, and have really worked out well on a couple of recent hikes on rocky uneven trails. They are very comfortable. I can\'t wait to try them out on an upcoming trip to some National Parks in Utah!

I usually wear 11.5 size shoes so I originally ordered this size but they were way too small. I returned them for size 12 and they also were somewhat small but I kept them thinking that they would stretch some which they did.\r\n\r\nI broke them in for about a week and then took them on a 3-day climb of Mt. Adams in Washington. The shoes performed beautifully while guys with much more expensive shoes were suffering with blisters.

I got these boots for hiking and walking around the city. They are great for both. Wish they had a narrow size available, but with size 15 feet, I'll take what I can get. I've made a lattice of duct tape and paper inside the shoe to pad out the space my feet don't fill.

Bought these boots after reading other's reviews. The fit and finish of these fair priced hiking boots make them some of the best shoes I have ever purchased.Water tight and comfortable first time I put them on.

I ordered these boots shortly before leaving on a trip during which we would be hiking up Mount St. Helen's, which was about 9 hours of exhausting hiking/climbing, 75% of it spent scrambling over rough volcanic rock formations (basalt and pumice). The Altitude IV performed great: good support, no aching or bruised feet from the rocks, and the close padded fit around the ankle kept out all the gravel and pumice ash (unlike some of my friends who had to empty their shoes several times during the descent. Note to the wise: wear gaiters when you hike Mt St Helen's!). Sizing: I am a very tall female who has always worn men's shoes. This time I ordered the extra-wide (a first for me) because in the past I have been unhappy with hiking boots that seemed to fit in the store, but ended up pinching me on the sides and torturing me on the trail over the long run. But of course I was guessing at the size and was a little worried about that. My foot has been the same for 25 years (still wearing a 42 in my Birkenstocks), but the size I need to buy has slowly grown from 9.5 men's to somewhere between a 10 and 11 depending on when and where the shoe was made. I've come to accept that we can't expect to wear the same size shoe all the time, but need to be happy just knowing our modern "size range." I decided to order right in the middle of my range, and went with a 10.5, which fit me well with sock liners and thick hiking socks, and were a little long in the toe box, just how hiking boots should be, so I lucked out. The 10.5 would have been too big for me without two pair of socks, so if you are planning to wear them with regular socks or are using them for everyday wear, not hiking, you might order at the smaller end of your size range (this might only be true if you are ordering the wide ones). Zappos was great. I originally ordered two different model boots in 10.5, and simply sent back the ones I didn't keep. I will definitely shop with Zappos again!

Very nice hiker - This is a great pair of boots. Virtually zero break in time. Very comfortable insole. Great on weight as well. I definitely recommend these.

I bought these exact boots in the autumn of 2004. I have worn them almost everyday for work, hiking, whatever. They have had a hard life and until about a year ago, they retained their ability to repel water. This spring the actual leather began separating from the sole. Needless to say, I’m buying another pair. They do require some breaking in, but once they are, there isn’t a more comfortable boot out there.

I've walked 30-40 miles in these since I bought them six weeks ago. Comfortable, easy on-off, and my usual size 10D fit as expected. Good value. NOT waterproof. Had to give them several coats of Nubuck waterproofing in order to stay dry in the rain.

Looks good, but not too comfortable - Some shoes require a 'break-in' period, but these couldn't even be worn around the house for more than 3 minutes because they were too uncomfortable.

Adirondack High Peak - I have my third pair of Hi-Tec outlander and decided to buy the Altitude IV Plus for a 3 peak hike. I bought them the day before I peaked Wright, Algonquin and Iriquois and the boots were comfortable and durable. The boots took some edge off the strenuous day.

Great boots - Bought these boots for riding my Harley. Didn't really care for the traditional styles but wanted black. Black hiking boots aren’t that easy to find. I ordered several brands and found these were the best value. They are very sturdy; resist water, and most of all comfortable. Sent the other pairs back and my credit card was reimbursed within a week. Great service ZAPPO and I will continue to order my shoes through you. You make it pretty easy, thanks
