Great Shoe - This shoe bends at the toe at just the right angle where my toes bend. It's a sturdy shoe but very light weight, and very comfortable.

It's great to receive a product in the mail and realize that it is even better than you thought. Excellent construction, comfortable fit, not much more you can ask for in a hiking shoe.

Just what I wanted. I searched high and low for a durable pair of trail hikers. These were the only ones that really caught my eye. These look and feel like an excellent pair of shoes. I just got them today so time will tell. I feel I made the right choice.

This is my third pair of Garmont Eclipse III XCR's. I wear them daily on my coastal walks and find them very comfortable and supportive. The large toe box is especially appreciated. Zappos was kind enough to e-mail me when my size came in and promptly shipped them to me when I ordered. Another Zappos fan!

Very sturdy shoes, almost too sturdy. The bummer was that both soles started de-laminating in about 2 years of light use. The tops looked great and there was plenty or tread; they just started to fall apart. Will not buy these again.

The shoes are working out great! I purchased them for the purpose of being up in the snowy mountains and I couldn’t have made a better decision. But be sure not to confuse these shoes with standard pair trail shoes that are designed for constant long bouts of trailing. These Garmonts would become uncomfortable after 3-4 hours of wear.

After seeing all of this positive feedback, I must have gotten the one defective pair; but by far the WORST pair I've ever owned. I do golf course work, and the most durable shoes last me up to 2 years TOPS. These shoes literally started to fall apart after 5 months of use... the soles separated from the shoe first, so there goes the quiet shoe. Next, the Goretex did NOT keep my feet dry even in light rain (?)! The breathable XCR GTX in this shoe was non-existent. My feet not only got wet from outside moisture, but they made my feet sweat like nothing else I've ever worn... and in FEBRUARY! I bought a pair of Montrail GTX to replace them and they FAR outperformed these shoes. Do yourself a favor and buy Merrells - never had a problem there, and their XCR GTX actually performs as advertised.

Seems like a very well built hiking shoe for rugged conditions. I decided I needed something with more cushion in the heel and more like a trail runner. This shoe looks like it’s good quality, but it's not what I need.

Absolutely satisfied with the Eclipse III XCR. 2nd pair. First pair lasted 5 years of constant use. Did however prefer the dark green color. Will continue to purchase this product.

I really liked these shoes at first. Comfortable and no wearing in. I was hesitant also that the shoe was waterproof but they proved to be reliable. However, after about two years of light hikes and outdoor activity the sole completely fell apart.

Upon first wearing the shoes I was very satisfied with the comfort. However this seemed to have diminished quickly. Within 3 months the left shoe began to squeak, followed by the right. The synthetic uppers abrade easily and the toe guard was quick to separate from them on the sides. Now 5 months into owning these the toe guard has further separated leaving a 2 inch tear on both shoes in the same spot. I am extremely dissatisfied with the durability of these shoes and will not be purchasing Garmont ever again. I’ve had shoes that cost half as much last twice as long.

I recently left behind on accident, my Montrails that I had worn for years at a condo in Steamboat and was extremely bummed, so I set out to find a replacement. Montrail no longer makes the style that I had become accustomed to, so I started doing some research in to a new hiking shoe. Garmont's hiker topped my list by far primarily due to their reputation and durability ratings, and once I actually got the shoe I was definitely satisfied with my pick. The shoe so far has exceeded my expectations and I look forward to future treks in this shoe.

I got my Garmont shoes a month or so ago. My previous shoes were also Garmont (the low cut boot version of this shoe). I bought these shoes for everyday use, as I do a great deal of walking and standing throughout each day. I also do a fair amount of hiking, climbing, and backpacking; but, I don't generally wear these shoes for that purpose. I have hiked short (5 miles decent trails in these shoes and have no complaints. Zappos customer service is, of course, outstanding. I got my shoes in good condition the day after I ordered them (how can you beat that). I like these shoes because the unique lacing pattern allows you to tighten them up without binding your foot. They also have a roomy toe box, which I like. Of course the Gore stuff is a must for walking through wet grass and such. I'll say that the shoes are true to size, but maybe run a tad smallish. They give you an insert to put under the insole if you want a tighter fit. For example, I am between an 8.5 and a 9. I ordered the 8.5 and wear them without the insert. I might have gotten the 9 and used the insert. It just depends on the feel you want.

Well, I found this shoe was one of the best fitting/comfortable shoes I've ever had. I used it as an everyday shoe (not quite daily but almost). However, the soles de-laminated/fell apart within 2 years. Even so, I was considering getting another pair, but I will not now after reading here that many people experienced the same problem with this shoe.

Initially the shoe felt great. Mine only lasted 3 months before the heel of the shoe wore smooth (I walk a lot and generally am happy with 6 months from my everyday shoes). Did not wear well. Kept coming untied. They are probably good shoes for the purpose intended (trail shoe /approach type shoe), but not appropriate for lots of walking on hard surfaces. I can't give this expensive shoe a high rating for these reasons. I would expect more from a shoe in this price range.
