These are great shoes! They arrived this week, the very next day after I ordered them, and I've worn them several times. They're very comfortable, and fit is true to size. (Order a half size up if you want to wear a thick sock.) I haven't worn them climbing, but can tell from the way they "stick" to the ground that they should perform well. Color is gorgeous, just like the photo.

These are a huge disappointment. I had been disappointed by the quality, but not the comfort of the Garmont Flash Three XCR, which you now have on sale. I thought these would be a sturdier version. They are a good looking boot, but the leather uppers are so stiff as to feel like a ski boot, making it difficult to tell if they would have fit the same in the last, toe box, and heel as the Flash. Bummer. At this price, back they go!

These boots are fantastic! I have been hiking for over twenty years and have yet to find a boot that has been so comfortable so soon and still be rugged and supportive when trekking up and down mountains. I would highly recommend this boot to anyone who enjoys outdoor adventuring.

Don't waste your time with these! Stay with Merrells! I ordered a pair of these back in April '09; I liked the looks and they were comfortable. However, durability is a whole other issue. By August '09, a tear was developed in the "pleather" part of the left shoe near the base of the big toe. I e-mailed the customer service folks at Garmont with attached digital photos, and was informed that they would send me another pair to replace the defective ones. Yeah, whatever. Still haven't received the new shoes or any responding e-mail so am assuming I was blown off. I'm ordering Merrells like I should have before. Whatever happened to customer service after the sale in America?! I guess that doesn't fall under our government's socialist plans.

Got me up and down Mt. Mansfield comfortably - I wore these boots while hiking Mt. Mansfield (6.6mi round trip, 2800' ascent) one week after purchasing them. They kept my feet dry through the mud, and got me up and down the mountain comfortably with no blistering or redness. Given that I have horrible feet (four surgeries and counting), this is high praise. The insoles seem designed primarily for casual comfort and do not provide particularly good arch support, so I recommend replacing them with an orthodic (as I did) if you plan to use these for significant hiking.

I purchased these at the end of 2007. They were very easy to wear out of the box: lightweight, decent support, pliant. I have narrow heels but a wider front foot but these boots were just fine for a medium-weight pair of Smart Wool hiking socks and my custom orthotics. I did some hiking in the Adirondacks, around my suburban neighborhood in preparation for a 5-day backpacking trip in the Pyrenees. Went through some rugged terrain and the boots worked just fine from someone newly recovered from plantar fasciitis. However, the heels on these boots wore down very quickly and I noticed a hole in the left heel at the end of the trip! Very disappointing, so overall I have to downgrade my rating.

I've worn Merrells for years and am still a big fan, but was intrigued by the price of the Garmont Flash III (quite reasonable for a Gore-Tex boot). Since Garmont is known for ski and alpine boots, I surmised they should make a good, durable hiking boot. So far, I've been right. Boots are very comfortable with the asymmetrical lacing and, like all my boots, replace the inserts with ones by Sole (Ed Viesturs Model). Boots are built strong and meant to be used. The soles are aggressive. I was worried about them being heavy, but they're just right. Not as light as Merrells but they are built a little more rugged, so you get what you par for. They're good for hard-core hikers and those of us who want to become hard-core hikers.

These shoes are great. They have a wide toe box, are comfortable in warm, cold and wet weather, but a bit stiff at first. I normally wear a 10.5, but a 10 in this shoe. The shoe lasted a year with heavy use and I just bought two more pairs. I’m very happy with this shoe.

I\'ve worn these about two weeks now. The one thing that I am most impressed with is how light they are. I really like the look of an approach type shoe. These don\'t disappoint. The heel cup is very supportive, and these broke in very nicely. I bought these for day hiking and think they will fill the bill.

These boots felt great right out of the box, so , after a little around the house time, I set off on an 18+ mile off trail hike inthe Pecos Wilderness.\r\nMy feet are a bit on the narrow side and the boots are fairly roomy so I used liners and heavy socks with aftermarket insoles. \r\nI had some heel movement on the steepest uphills, but my toes were very happy on the uphills and more inportantly the downhills.\r\nI generally have some gripes with any boot I use, but these seem grea.

These Eclipse Vented Garmonts have been great so far. My last 2 pairs have been Garmont Nagevis, but I didn't like some of the new design elements in the current iteration so I switched to the Eclipse. They're comfortable with all the nice touches you expect from Garmont. They run a bit wide.

Great look, not a bad fit or feel - This very good looking hiking boot is lightweight and not bad feeling. I think with enough wear they would break in to feel pretty good. The sizing seems right, they're only just a bit stiff feeling.

Wonderful summer alpine boot! Perfect combination of stiffness in the soles, and rocking for better hiking. Technical, narrower fit, which I like better in comparison to the lighter Vetta Lite model. Lower cut makes them very nimble. Soles have sufficient depth of pattern to make them even more versatile. A perfect boot when approach shoes might be too light, and a full alpine boot too hot/bulky.

I actually love these shoes. They are super comfortable to me. I bought them because while at an outdoors store I tried on a bunch of boots and the ones that I ended up buying were Garmont. When looking for a trail shoe I tried on pretty much every brand but kept thinking that I really liked the way the Garmont boots felt. So I took a chance and bought the 9.81s and I\\\'m sold. They fit me well and feel natural to my foot. They do run a half size small though. I had to exchange the first pair so keep that in mind.\\r\\n\\r\\nVery light and breath well. If you need a lot of support then these might not be the shoe for you.

Great boots. Plenty of room in toe box for those with more rounded feet. No pinching/rubbing right out of the box. There is almost no break-in required. Good for day-hiking or with a light pack but with a heavy pack I would want something stiffer. Grip not great on wet surfaces but that is the case with most boots. Overall, very happy with them so far.

This shoe has a wide roomy toe box and is perfect for me as I have a problem with my big toe. The shoe is well-designed and has a nice insole --well padded but not too cushiony. I\'m very pleased with it but have not used it for hiking yet.

So far this shoe has been great. I use it mainly as a day hiking shoe with a light pack. From the start the shoe was extremely comfortable and well padded with only a short break in period needed. The laces are exorbitantly long, but I just tuck them into the shoe and don't worry about it from there. The tongue is very thick and provides a lot of comfort, and that along with the laces down to the toe allow the shoe to hold my foot very well even on steep downhill sections. The grip on the shoe is great even over loose rock up or downhill. I have only used the shoe on a half dozen hikes between 5 and 20 miles so I can't yet speak to the longevity of the shoe, but it has been an excellent purchase so far.

These cross trainers are as stable and comfortable as they are attractive. The fit is perfect at 41 European and there are other attractive features not found on the comparable name brand shoes on the market. These include speed lacing, an extra pair of laces in case you wear out the originals and finally, a pull-on strap at the back to facilitate entry. I wear these shoes running indoors and out as well as at the gym. They even feel good in the cheap peddles of the stationary bikes from life fitness and precor. Finally, don't be put off by the color. The bright red keeps you aware of your foot position and helps keep old guys like me from falling down.

I have really liked Garmont shoes for several years. These were purchased as a replacement for my pair of Nagevi (1st generation). Most Garmont shoes seem to run true to size and for me that's a mens 10. However, I think largely due to the toe box on the 9.81 Race being a little narrower these required that I go up a half size, which worked perfectly. The Nagevi offered more support, better impact resistance and are overall stiffer and heavier. I used them on a 47 mile day hike across the Olympic range, not something I would do in the 9.81 Race as I think they are a little too soft and might cause more foot fatigue. Nonetheless their lightweight is much appreciated for most of my outings and training.

Garmont Natura

I purchased the Garmont Natura for my husband. He needed a new pair of light hiking shoes for a trip we were planning, as his old ones were worn out. He spent many hours on Zappos' site reading shoe reviews, and tried 9 pairs of various brands before finding Garmonts. He LOVES these shoes. He wanted something that felt great and performed well, but that looked different from other shoes, and Garmonts are great looking, really unique, an, he says, "feel like pillows." The canvas breathes, his feet are never damp even after hours of hiking, and the soles really work at wicking away moisture. He and I both love the way the shoes look, and he has received compliments on them from coworkers. They were great hiking on regular dirt trails, but even better, he said they seemed to be "made for climbing over rocky terrain," as we had to do quite a bit of clambering over uneven mid-sized rocks and boulders, and the Garmonts' performance amazed him with their efficiency, allowing him to be quite agile and nimble where he might otherwise have felt awkward or precarious. GREAT SHOES!!!

I bought this shoe to see if I could get a lighter version of the Eclipse. It works great, slightly more flexible than the heavier model. I use it to hike and play golf. If you are a heavy person with a wide foot then Garmont is the way to go. Their medium is wider than any other medium in this product line.

I got these boots yesterday and have worn them all day today in complete comfort, which is really saying something for me and my lousy feet! I had foot surgery four months ago and have bad ankles, so I'm asking a lot of a boot, and I bought these because I've had good luck with Garmont in the past, and I was hoping for the same with these boots. The toe box is roomy, the ankle support is outstanding, the arch support is good, and the included shim (not really just an extra insole) was helpful for my "low-volume" narrow, bony feet. Garmont boots are quality, and these are no exception. Plus, they're good-looking and light-weight. And even though they're stiff enough to give good support, they\'re flexible enough in the forefoot to make walking comfortable rather than awkward and stiff-feeling, like some hiking boots do. Recommended, especially at the great sale price!

Great Shoe - This shoe bends at the toe at just the right angle where my toes bend. It's a sturdy shoe but very light weight, and very comfortable.
