Frye Reviews
I absolutely love these. I have two other pairs of Fryes that I've owned for years, but these are the cutest I've seen yet. They are incredibly versatile, comfortable, and well-made. You will keep these forever!
A fantastic shoe. It has real substance to it, while still maintaining the look of a trim ballet flat. Absolutely worth the extra money. Even the color (I have the taupe) is richer and more nuanced than the norm.
My new favorite sandals! I love my Frye boots & now my Frye sandals too. They are very comfortable right out of the box. Made of soft quality leather & a slightly cushy footbed. Definitely a keeper!
I just received this boot so I can't comment on long term wear but I want to add my experience with finding the right size. I have a narrow 10.5 size foot. My running sneakers are size 11. Hearing these boots run big I ordered a size 10. My foot was swimming in it, at least it felt that way. I sent it back and got a size 9.5. They fit great. Because my feet are narrow, rarely do I have to 'break in' a pair of shoes and these boots will be no different. I wore them for awhile this afternoon and they were very comfortable. They really are a very good looking boot but for me, they run 1 full size large. I would have saved a lot of shipping and handling had I ordered properly.
These are very nice shoes. The color is a very light taupe and they run very long. I wear a 9 and unfortunately the heel height was too much for bad bones and I have to return them. I ordered an 8½. I could have ordered an 8 with room to spare.
This was my first time trying Frye, and I was really impressed. These look and feel like quality shoes. They are worth the asking price. They felt wonderful on; the sizing was as expected. I returned them only because I decided that I needed sandals now, instead of the oxford style. The plum is a subtle enough color to be a good neutral. I will definitely try Frye again.
This boot appears well-made. Although it requires breaking in, I found it remarkably comfortable out of the box for a leather-soled shoe. Chukkas often run long. I wear a 10 and have a medium width foot. On advice from a call to Frye, I ordered a 9 1/2 and have found the fit spot on. The tan antique leather comes with a musty powder sort of finish that I chose to remove by polishing with a cloth. I would imagine that the finish would wear off with time in any event.
These boots are really cute. They run true to size, I wear 7-7.5 and the 7 fit perfect with my narrow foot. The shaft comes almost to the knee, and I was looking for something a little lower, plus there seems to be a bend in the leather near my right ankle that was quite uncomfortable when I walked. As much as I was hoping to love these boots, they sadly have to go back.
The fit and style are great. The leather is nicely distressed, but not too much. The color is good and rich. The forefoot of the footbed feels a little thin and hard, but it keeps the overall looks of the boot sleek. This thin fit also means there's no room for adding your own insole. The major negative with these boots is that the leather sole bottom is really slippery. I sometimes slip around a little on tile floors or wet sidewalks. I'd like to wear these when riding my motorcycle, but they just don't have enough traction for putting a steady foot down at a stoplight. So, these just aren't functional enough to be everyday boots for me.
Based on reviews by others, I ordered this shoe in both a size 6 1/2 and 7. 7 is my normal shoe size and it fit perfectly. Had to return the 6 1/2. So I say this fits true to size, though I'm told I have a narrow foot. I love the shoe, very comfortable right out of the box. The white cracked leather is somewhat "funky", but fun. Because of the overall "cracked" appearance, it's not a "white white" shoe...comes across as a golden/tan white. I like them!
So beautiful. Slightly more narrow than my Carson oxfords in the toe. They are still comfortable but not ideal for all day on your feet. The color is perfect. Worth the minimal discomfort.
When I first slipped these on, I thought I'd purchased the wrong size since they were so narrow along the foot and around the toes. But after just five minutes of wearing them around the house, the leather warmed up and they now fit wonderfully. They haven't required as much breaking in as I anticipated-- a couple hours of walking in them and they feel custom-made. Do beware that for these to be comfortable, you must have very narrow feet and wear them with just thin liner socks.
Oh, I wish I bought these at this price. They are so intoxicating. My first Fryes and I am in love. I tried cognac and taupe and I kept only taupe. Cognac was too western in color. The leather is fantastic, the fit is generous, but that is how I like it in the boots. They look expensive. They feel expensive. I wish I could buy black as well. Perfect boots.
A year later, and my love didn't last. For the price, this shoe should have lasted more than 1 season of wear. There is a hole at the sole by the heel. I bought two pairs, lined and unlined. The others don't have this problem, so I doubt it is a gait issue. I loved them while they lasted, but they didn't last long enough.
These are some beautiful shoes which makes it a shame that they are so uncomfortable. It's not just a matter of breaking in as I've had them for some time now, but I believe more a matter of how they were put together. The toe cap is reinforced with some sort of lining and the leather that comes off from there is also lined. What happens is that when the shoes flexes while walking, that leather bends inward and presses against the top of the large toe. After an hour or two of this the pain is excruciating. A shame really.
Heels are very (too) tall. Requires practice! I would have returned them except that I have not been able to find any other decent olive green shoes. The price of beauty.
This is an adorable shoe, and pretty comfortable, although I haven't yet fully "broken it in." Meaning: I can wear it for a full day of work and take a short walk in it, but a long walk results in a bit of rubbing on my heels and toes. Feel pretty sure these will soften up, and I probably expect too much of them (they're not hiking boots). But they are really cute and comfortable, as long as you don't expect to walk several miles in them right away.
A beautiful boot...really. But as others have said, the heel slops around on your foot and makes walking in them awkward to the point of must return. Loved the leather and the look. Frye needs to tweak this one and bring it around again.
These shoes are incredibly stylish, but they fit weird - very large toe and very long-looking. I am in between an 8 and 8.5, I got the 7.5, and they still didn't work. I love women's oxfords (especially in pink!), but unfortunately these have to go back.
