These boots are well made and very sharp. I returned them, however, because they just aren't special enough for the price. Also, the sizing seems to be a little off. I ordered these in a 7 and 7.5, the 7 was very small on my foot and the 7.5 was too large and my foot slipped around inside the boot too much to be comfortable. I wish they had fit better and were half the price.

These boots are not very comfortable at all! I bought them in the olive color. I got lots of compliments on them, but they are not the best quality. The leather is soft, but very thin. The bottoms are extremely slippery with no traction at all! I wore them out one night and could barely walk the next day and I wear heels often. I guess I expected more from Frye. After reading some of the other reviews I agree that there is no padding in between the balls of your feet and the sole of the boot. I guess they are ideal if you only plan on wearing them a very short amount of time! There is a lot of heel space, too, like the others have said.

Absolutely love the Carson pull on boots. they are really comfortable and look great with jeans, skirts, and dresses! Really love the quality of Frye boots. Definitely go a size down; I am an 8 and ordered a size 7 and they fit perfectly. My only small complaint was the way the boots came from Zappos. When I opened the boots they were not packaged well and looked like someone had just tried them on and thrown them back in the box. Maybe I just expected a lot since I paid a lot!

I wear 7.5 80% of time but needed a 7. Very comfortable compared to other Frye boots/booties I\'ve tried. Very happy with the purchase.

I ordered a size larger, as I normally do with my boots, since I wear socks with them. They still feel quite snug and narrow even with the thinnest socks.

I'd been lusting over the boots since I first saw them so my husband bought them for me in vintage chocolate as an early Christmas present. I ordered the 8.5 initially and was very disappointed; they were huge and incredibly uncomfortable. But I liked the style so much that I wasn't going to give up there, so I ordered a size down, the 8. Zappos exchanged them immediately and I received them the next day. Awesome! Well, the size 8 is perfect, so make sure you order a half size down from your usual. They are very high quality, as you'd expect for the price. The leather is pretty hard, which made me wonder if I was going to keep them, but my husband convinced me that a pair of boots like these needs some serious breaking in. So I have been wearing them a lot on short outings and they're already feeling better after just a few short trips. The toe area is a little narrow for me, but it's starting to stretch and the heel slipped quite a lot initially, but that's also getting better, too. They're 'roughty toughty' enough to wear on a daily basis without worrying too much about scratches and scuffs, but can be dressed up with a skirt, too. I love them and expect them to be with me for many many years! I shall stop babbling now, just go and buy them!

I have somewhat wide feet and a high instep, so I tried a half-size larger than my normal 6.5. Try as I might, I could not get the right boot over my instep. Argh! But then I thought, given Zappos' generous return policy, let me just try my regular 6.5 and see if there is a difference. Voila! The right foot still sticks a bit when I put the boot on, but once it's on, it's like the boots melt to fit my feet! Moral of the story: don't be dissuaded if one set doesn't fit. Another set might do the trick.

These are absolutely the greatest boots ever! They are very comfortable, although a bit roomy in the heel, and probably run a half size larger than marked, but the leather strap at the ankle helps the fit. Pants stay tucked nicely because they are quite high. The leather is so soft both inside and out. I wear them barefoot. The attention to detail is fantastic. They look great with jeans, skirts, and casual dresses. A friend saw them on me and purchased two pair for herself. The black and brown have the soft leather. The other colors have more of a pebble leather feel. As usual, Zappos service is great.

I had originally bought a pair of Steve Madden knee high boots from Nordstroms that looked very similar to these and I returned them because the construction quality was really crappy, for a pair of boots at that price! So disappointing. So I splurged and got the Fryes, and glad I did. The quality cannot be beat. I have large calves and they fit around them! It's a miracle, but they're not loose at the top. Have had tons of compliments on them. I like that I can wear them with jeans or a skirt. Sad the footbed flap is coming up inside one of them. I have fat feet, too, and they fit true to size.

Great boots. A little struggle to get on but once on, so comfortable and cute. Will last forever. I usually buy half a size up in Frye boots, but these were perfect in my true size 7.

Please take note of the reviewer that said this boot developed a loud popping sound. The pair I ordered did the same thing, after only a short time. The grey color is nice, but overall very expensive and not worth it.

These Heath Frye boots have a great look and have a little padding underfoot. They are a soft rugged leather, dark, dark, brown almost black...I bought the goatskin.\r\nFrom the moment I put them on I was able to shop all day in them with no break in time. They are very comfortable.\r\n\r\nI would highly recommend this boot to anyone interested.\r\n\r\nZappos was great. I ordered my boots in the afternoon and they were at my door the very next day!

These are gorgeous boots. They are somewhat darker brown than the photo indicates, which is perfect for me. They are very comfortable and easy to walk in. The only problem I see with them is wearing with jeans tucked in as there is no zipper and they are narrow at the top. My solution for this is to safety pin wide elastic bands to the bottom of the pants (memories of old stirrup pants). Works like a charm. I ordered a bit larger, maybe a half size. Glad I did, they take a bit of work to get on and off, but worth the effort and money.

I loved this shoe the first time I saw it and waited before spending the money. When I got the shoe I was disappointed the leather is really thin and they fit very loose. No cushion in the soles. If they were taller they might have looked better, but being so short the top just gaps open not attractive. I love Frye, but these had to go back.

I love these boots. Bought them in black, 1/2 size bigger, they look great with everything. Took about 3 weeks of wearing them off & on to break them in; it was worth the blisters. I will buy them in another color as soon as possible; pricey, but, I look at it as an investment.

Wow! I am so impressed with my brown, Frye Billy Short boots. These boots are of excellent quality, excellent comfort, combined with a cool looking boot which I can dress up or down, depending on what I wear with them. These are great walking shoes and are comfy even after having them on all day. I typically wear a size 10 so I ordered a 10 and they are a perfect fit. I am now thinking of buying another pair of Frye Billy Short in a black.

Love these boots. Should have taken to heart the other reviewers who ordered a half size down from their normal shoe size so I wouldn't have had to return the 9 for an 8.5. The 8.5 in these boots is the perfect fit. The color is rich and amazing, fabulous shade of green. A note of thanks to Zappos: I'm so impressed with the customer service at Zappos; a wonderful and unique experience to feel truly valued as a customer. You guys rock and will get my business over and over.

I love my boots! They are true to size and a little narrow across the top of the foot (my feet are not wide so it's not a big deal). They look beautiful, just like the picture. My kids tease me, they think they look like motorcycle boots, but they are perfect for everyday with leggings or skinny jeans.

Soft, supple leather and a gorgeous boot. I'm debating on keeping them, though. They are snug around the toes but loose around the heel. I'm not sure if I am in love with them yet. Their construction seems spot on though, these are very well made.

Most loved footwear in my closet! I wear a 6.5 and ordered 7 - perfect! Everyone stops me in the street and asks where I got these boots (even guys!). Super comfortable to walk around town in too. Makes me wonder why I use to stagger around in high heeled boots when these look and feel so much better. Am saving up to buy another color, then branch out to more Frye styles.

Best boots ever. I have dark brown and black (now that I have them I feel I could really do without black - it's so similar to the dark brown - but I am kind of obsessed with color detail and need the black to be satisfied) and wear one of the two nearly every day the temp drops below 60. I wear with dresses, skirts, skinny jeans, leggings, tights, shorts - pretty much anything. Purchased brown in 2008 size 8 and black 2009 size 7.5 and both fit great. I can generally wear either size in most shoes, sandals 7-7.5 and closed shoes 7.5-8. I actually considered not writing a review so I could keep this great boot a secret, or as secret as possible anyway. I am a boot FREAK and this style is by far my ultimate favorite. My next pair will be saddle.

About Frye

Frye The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.
