These boots rock! I\'ve purchased boots this fall and winter, but the Engineer 12R are by far superior to the others. The construction and design make these boots functional yet attractive. They are a little stiff so wear them in order to break them in, it won\'t take long! They look great with any outfit.

Great boot! Well-made, amazing leather, but runs big! I am a true size 10 most of the time and this boot was huge! I just sent it back and ordered a 9.5 and will not be surprised if I have to go to a 9. Great boot, but order a 1/2 size smaller.

Frye hits the mark again! These are great boots and well worth the money if you are looking for a boot that will be stylish for years to come. I am 5'10" and like my boots tall and with a close-fitting calf and these fit the bill perfectly. The leather is beautiful and does smell magnificent. I have worn them all day long and they are very comfortable. They are very versatile and look great with dresses/skirts and also with leggings or skinny jeans. I usually wear a size 10.5/11, but bought a size 10 and they fit perfectly. They are actually roomy, which is nice because I can wear thick socks with them and they are still very comfortable. I would recommend ordering a half size down from your usual size, if possible.

I love these boots! They are comfortable and look awesome rolled or unrolled, over or under my jeans, very versatile. I initially ordered my normal shoe size, but needed to exchange them for a half size smaller. I called in to make the exchange and the customer service was incredible. I received my new pair within a day and a half! I am so excited to wear them!

These Frye boots are perfect. Although they were very stiff (as Frye boots tend to be) I got them stretched at a cobbler in order to break them in faster. They look great with skinny jeans, leggings and also dresses. I love how low they are, and that they don't fit tight on my calf. I am thrilled with my purchase, and would not have been as likely to make such an expensive purchase online if Zappos did not have free shipping both ways.

These are beautiful boots. They are well constructed and of excellent quality. They are perfect for fall or for winter in places that don't get much snow. I wouldn't wear these outside in winter in a place where salt is used on roads and sidewalks, because they are so pretty, and I wouldn't want to wreck them. I wish that Frye boots were made in the USA. At this price point, I feel like they ought to be. Other than that, great boots.

Zappos is amazing! I ordered these boots at around 4:30 central time and they were delivered in just under 18 hours. How do they do it? I guess UPS deserves a small amount of credit, too! I saw these boots in a local store and fell in love with them, but they didn't have my size. I came straight home and checked Zappos and, of course, they have them. Also, Zappos was priced less and with no shipping or sales tax, I saved money. These are beautiful boots, comfortable straight out of the box, and are well worth the money. They are made from a beautiful, quality leather and great craftsmanship. With a little care, all of my Frye boots and shoes have lasted for years and years. The $9 Frye leather conditioner is a great investment if you are going to buy their boots.

After trying dozens of options for nice flat boots, these are my winner. The leather is beautiful, meaning it's like a Coach purse but thicker/heavier, and they smell like leather. They do scuff easily, but a little leather cream will work out the scuffs, and over time, I think a few scuffs will give them character. I have big runner's calves, but with the tabs on the side, I can get these all the way on with room for thick tights, although not jeans. (That's okay, I'm just glad they go on.) I normally wear a 7 or 7.5 with wide width, if available, and here the 7 works. Finally, I found the arch support insufficient for my feet (I have plantar fasciitis), so I added a "Superfeet" 3/4s insert and am totally happy.

I received the bag and loved the look of it. It had all the right pockets with easy access into the bag without all the fussy zippers. The only problem I had with it was the thickness of the leather, it was very thin and I figured I would quickly make the bag look old the way I use my bags. I needed something a bit more sturdy and that could withstand a lot of use from car, to playing fields watching my kids games, to the beach on the sand, to shopping, to the gym and so on. Nice bag for someone who switches out bags often and doesn't use them for everything as I do. Had to send it back; too much money for it to be such thin leather. Wish it would have been like their boot hide, now that would of been sweet!

Great boot. Looks great. I shopped around and decided on these boots because they had a more stylish, fitted look. I didn\'t want a bulky, round, flat-black boot which is common with motorcycle boots. Fits true to size.

Cutest shoes ever! Pretty tall though; I'm 5'3" and usually am around 5'8"/5'9" in them. I have a wide foot as well and they are pretty true to size. I stayed with a 7.5 and they are not too tight at all. Definitely a classic shoe! Girls, do not let these ones go! Trust me!

I was not impressed with these boots. They are extremely well made, and would probably last 50 years. So whyu would Frye choose to use cheap buckles on such an expensively made boot? It just blew my mind. The metal on the buckle was actually bent, it was so thin, cheap, and too shiny. They should have used a much thicker buckle made of brass. It just does not make sense. Also, the boot was extremely stiff and hard on the top of my foot. Totally uncomfortable. I own a pair of Frye Harness boots and I love them so I was really disappointed when I received these. Sent them back in a hurry!

These boots look like biker or work boots, but they are instead more like rough hewn distressed casual boots. They are light, extremely well made and comfortable on the feet. The leather is soft and these boots will stretch and adopt to your particular foot shape. The soles are very solid and give a nice firm boot stomp sound when walking on hard surfaces. I personally would never wear these to a construction work site, but instead they are a statement of machismo and manhood in an urban, casual environment. Only one con: The soft leather gets scuffed and marked easily. Get some quality boot oil to solve this issue, which will also protect the leather from water stains.

This was my first pair of expensive "big girl" boots, so I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect pair. I wanted something that I could dress up or dress down, and something with a bit of a heel but could still be worn comfortably all day. This boot, the Frye Jane Stitch, is perfect. It took a couple of days to break them in a bit, but now they are very comfortable. I usually wear an 8.5 to 9 shoe, so I ordered the 8.5 boot. It fits perfectly. I have a normal width foot. The calf opening is also perfect, at 15". I can wear skinny jeans tucked in or wear the boots under bootcut jeans. Again, I am pretty average on calf circumference, so your mileage may vary. I chose the antique brown color, which I figured would be more flexible than black, and I really love the color. If you buy these boots, you won't regret it.

I have never written a review about a product before, but I thought that this particular boot merited one. Usually pull-on style boots practically fall off my feet since I have a very low instep, but these fit quite nicely with hardly any slippage in the heel. They are very comfortable and I can wear them for long periods of time without any discomfort. I feel that they run a bit large; I usually wear a 9 1/2, but I bought these in a size 9 and they fit fine. I just can't wear really thick socks which I don't mind at all. Also, it's a little hard to tell by the picture, but the shaft of the boot is a very soft and pliable leather so they don't stand up stiffly as a 'cowboy' boot would. I bought the dark brown and the color is beautiful. If you are looking for a comfortable boot with just a hint of western style, then these are it. I am very happy with them!

Now that these boots are broken in, I feel a need to update my review below. I live in these boots. On the first few wears, they pinched my toes and the heel slipped uncomfortably (which I complained about in my review below). However, they broke in beautifully after a few wears and I'm so glad I didn't send them back, because they are now the most comfortable shoe in my wardrobe. I will wait to get past the break-in period before posting a shoe review in the future!

I recommend this beautiful boot. It is quite comfortable right out of the box with really soft leather. Although I have larger calves, it's no problem with the width of the boot. I generally wear an 8 and 1/2 and this is what I ordered. The boot would probably be too small for very heavy socks but seems fine with everyday ones.

I really like these boots. They're good for the winter weather. I'm normally size 6 to 6 1/2. I bought size 6. The only problem is that they're a little hard to put on. It's getting easier as they break in. I'm looking forward to wearing them when I go motorcycling.

I love my Frye boots! I'd never spent a ton of money on shoes before, but had to have these. They are comfortable from the first wearing and more so each time. They just look really, really, nice and I can tell the quality was well worth the money. I ordered a half size down as most recommended.

I think these boots run really big. I normally wear a 7.5, but those were huge on me. I probably could have gone a full size down to a 6.5, but I managed to snap up a size 7 at a huge discount, so those will work fine with a padded insert and some thicker socks. Also, I'm 5'4" and thought the shaft was the perfect height; it hit right at the knee in the front, and it's a little shorter in the back, so there are no issues with bending your legs or sitting down. But the best part of these boots is that the boot shaft fits like a glove! These are the first zip-up boots I've ever tried that don't poke out a little on the sides at the top. (My only other boots that fit this well are my pull-on suede Cole Haans from four or five years ago.) With most leather boots there's always that little bit of extra space at the top where the boots are too big, and that always bothers me. Why don't manufacturers realize that your leg gets narrower between the calf and the knee, and make the top part smaller? And why do they always make the ankle part so big that it slouches? Anyway, these boots don't have any of those problems, so they look like they were tailor-made for your legs! I'm surprised no one has mentioned that there is a small slit in the leather at the top with just a little bit of elastic underneath; so they definitely stretch, but not very much. This must be why they fit so well, even if it means they're a little tight when you zip them up. I didn't even notice the stretchy part when I tried on the black ones (it's completely covered by the leather) so it's not anything noticeable that takes away from the appearance of the boots. Now if only they'd bring back the grey ones! I want another pair of these!

Yes, I'm so happy to write a review! I ordered these boots for my daughter as a birthday gift. We ordered the 9s as the reviews said they ran big. They didn't fit, but Zappos was so great. They sent her a new pair before I even mailed the 9s back; a pair of 9.5s and she is thrilled! They fit great and Zappos was probably the nicest on-line shopping experience I've ever had! The customer care was exceptional and the product is of course great! The boots are gorgeous! My daughter loves them! Zappos was so fast! I ordered one day and boots were delivered the next day! You just can't beat that!

About Frye

Frye The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.
