I'm a Baby Boomer who coveted Frye harness boots when I was in college in the 70s. I finally broke down and bought a pair. Very high quality. Thick leather and sturdy construction. Very comfortable and they still look way cool. I normally wear a narrow, but the medium width fit me perfectly, so I guess these run a bit narrow. If your foot is even a little broad, order the wide. I have weird feet. They measure 13-1/2. In most brands I need a 14. In the Frye, the 13 was a better fit. It's 1972 again, and this old man feels almost sexy!

First I'd like to share I looked everywhere for this boot, prior to leaving on vacation, with no success. Alas, I found them from the comfort of my home at Zappos and they shipped them to my destination spot. I got them in time for my birthday and love them. Frye quality craftsmanship, as always, and fit like a glove, no breaking in period! I'm between a 8-8.5; I wanted to use these boots with pants and to funk up a skirt look and so needed them to fit with tights or regular socks. They must be a little generous as the 8 is a perfect fit. I could wear them with a slightly thicker sock if I take the time getting my foot past the ankle; over time and as the soften up I suspect that'll be easier. The foot is comforted by great molding and the sole takes the impact, not the foot. That surprised me the most! They feel like a good sneaker on the foot. Another review mentioned clunky, I think it's fair to say these aren't a streamlined and conforming boot and when you walk you notice the bend at the ankle-like you've a strong strut. I don't mind feeling that little attitude. I also own the tall, flat heeled black buckle boot by Frye and it conforms whereby you don't notice your walk. I suspect it's the wide and generously thick leather that creates that edge. Don't know if that will change over time, but it's a non-issue for me. Stilettos are my only bug a boo; I prefer not to be on stilts.

Following up on my original review about my defective boots: I contacted the Frye Company via their website and they repaired my boots and shipped them back to me. Boots now = perfect. And the folks at the Frye Company were very nice to deal with. This is arguably a lot of work for expensive boots, but at least there is a solution. So if you love these boots and can't imagine life without them, go for it!

These are "put on and go for a walk boots". I bought the Brick in a 5.5 and the Black in a 6. That is .5 size down and regular size and both worked, couldn't tell much difference. If you want people stopping you to say "great boots," then this is the end of your search. The other bonus, they're Fryes which means years from now they will still be in style and in great shape. Buy and enjoy!

This is a great boot and it is very comfortable. I think it runs a little big. The sole is very slippery in the rain. Trust me, because I slipped! Overall, this is the best boot I own! You'll love it!

I love the look of these boots, but the fit just wasn't right for me. The heel is quite wide and the forefoot was a bit narrow. They feel like they are just smaller versions of a mens shoe rather than being made to fit a woman's foot. For the right person, they'd be great. Me, I'm going back to Ariat.

I love the boots. These remind me of a pair I had when I was a teenager. They are incredibly comfortable. I would recommend these to anyone who loves cowboy boots or who want a really comfortable pair of boots.

I absolutely love these boots. They are very versatile. I wear them with skinny or boot cut jeans. Every time I wear them, I receive a ton of compliments. Most importantly, they are extremely comfortable! I typically wear a size 7 1/2 or 8 in a boot, but wear a 7 in these.

These boots were a bit spendy, but worth the price. I ordered a 1/2 size larger than my normal and they fit comfortably with heavy socks. No breaking, but took a bit getting used to the weight because they are substantial. Hope to have them for many adventures over as many years.

I have been looking high and low for new boots this year, and the closest I found to comfortable boots was the Kenneth Cole Reaction Hello Moto boots. However, I still wanted another pair to rotate in my wardrobe, and I found these! They just came today, and right out of the box they went on my feet and and off to work with me. They are well made, the leather is soft, the boot fit right around my leg, they zipped up all the way, and they felt great on my feet, almost decadent. Like other reviewers, the heel is a little wide and my foot does move around somewhat, but it's not so annoying I would return these. If anything I can always wear thicker socks, but it really didn't bother me that bad. I wore them most of the day to work, and later running errands and all I can say is I really like these! My only complaint is the soles do not have great traction; I did slide around on some ice wearing these today. Also the price is kind of more than I wanted to spend, but I'm not returning them! Now I'm drooling over the Frye Heath Moto boots.

I loved these boots from the moment I laid eyes on them, but they were way too big. I am a true size 9 and I have had to return the 8.5 because it was so big. I have ordered the 8 and hope that that will work. I have not been a size 8 since Junior High, but these run really big. Beware! (Not all Fryes run large, but boy did this one!)

These boots are the real deal. In so many ways. I will begin by saying they require a break in period. What good things don't? About fifteen all day wearings, with a day off here and there for good behavior. They feel good. Real good. All day long good. But let's face it, these are boots, and it's about how they make you feel, right? I'm a forty-six year old guy, and I haven't walked so tall since my last pair of Frye boots twenty-eight years ago. I'm not about stylin' but these boots are stylin'. My wife loves them. I've had half a dozen women comment on them. When's the last time that happened to you?

This is a beautiful boot. Very versatile because the studs add a just-barely-there kind of style. Looks cool with everything from ratty jeans to a nice dress! Leather is beautiful, polished but not too shiny. High quality. A little stiff at first, but after wearing them for just a little while you can tell that this is the kind of leather that will become soft and buttery. Warning! This boot is much more narrow and slim-looking than I thought it would be. For those of you who were thinking of going down a size, don't do it unless you have narrow feet. They are quite small in the toe box and across where the widest part of the foot is. Sure, the leather will stretch a tad, but just keep this in mind. If you have large calves, you might not be able to get jeans in there without getting the 'muffin top' knees. I felt that the length is true to size, for a person who will be wearing these mostly with socks.

These boots are great looking. They seem really durable, but are pretty heavy. They are comfortable too, and I really like the black finish, which is more dull, than shiny. I ride a motorcycle, so the oil-resistant sole is a plus. Overall, they were a great buy and I feel like they will last.

I love these boots. They are perfect! The only thing I would change is that they be a little taller, but that is because I am super tall and have really long legs. For the average person these will be perfect. The heel is high, but very comfortable. I wore these on a recent vacation to a big city and spent the whole time walking from place to place and my feet held up just fine. They are super stylish and I got compliments everywhere I went! Frye boots rock!

Zappos Rocks! I had a hard time finding the color of boot that I wanted on the website. They have great detail in the pictures on the website but the color was still off from what I desired when I received my boots. I called in multiple times and the customer assistance was great! The employees were friendly and extremely helpful. Zappos worked with me to not only return my item, but they shipped out the new boots within a day! I'll always use Zappos when it comes to ordering shoes because of their great service. I am planning on buying all of my clothing for Christmas presents off of their website. Thanks again for all your help Zappos!

I think I am in love! I started drooling over these boots in black when I first saw them on Zappos, late last summer. I spotted them at a local store and tried them on in a banana color, which I don't care for but was all that was available. I became disenchanted immediately. They looked awkward. The slouchy, shoe part looked weird and small with the leg part. Now I know it was the color that really put me off. After searching high and low for the perfect casual, comfy black boot, I never forgot about these beauties. After not finding anything for months I decided to take a chance and order the black. I hoped my favorite go to color would make it all better. Hooray! I don't think I am ever going to take these boots off my feet! I have a very feminine yet bohemian style and wear lots of dresses and skirts. These boots are made for that look. I don't own jeans, but if I did I wouldn't wear these over them. They are literally a beautiful yet super comfortable piece of art to wear on your legs. It would be a shame to cover up any part of them with a pant leg! They are my third pair of Frye boots and definitely a heirloom investment!

I got these shoes this past January and loved them! This past weekend I wore them on a rainy day and spent several hours in the rain dodging (not wading in) puddles. Today I've noticed that the soles are falling apart! it looks terrible and I'm not sure if this is shoddy craftsmanship or these shoes are meant only for nice days. I find the latter hard to believe. Anyhow, be warned, these aren't for rain or my pair is not good.

The Frye 12R is a very nice Roper style boot. I like it\\\'s light weight and the fact that it fully lined. The boots drew instant approval from my wife when I tried them on. If you\\\'re between sizes and like wearing a light-weight sock, such as a dress sock, order the smaller size. The boots run a tad large compared to street shoes.

I finally purchased these boots after months of deliberation, definitely the most expensive shoe purchase I have ever made. I love the style of these boots. They are beautifully designed without being over embellished. The leather is of great quality and looks fantastic. Basically, exactly what I wanted. I had to send these boots back, however, because the fit in the ankle and calf were huge. I am 5ft 2in and around 115 lbs. My calves were swimming in these boots. I'm extremely disappointed that I have to send these back. If not for the fit, I would have kept these in a heartbeat. I hope that Frye will one day make a knee-high boot that is more fitted and streamlined, for me! And to all you skinny-calved ladies out there: you may want to look elsewhere!

The Frye Carson is my favorite boot ever! I have to pairs of the Carson pull-ons, two pairs of the Carson perfs, and now this pair of Carson Harness boots in black. They are great looking, comfortable from the word go, and worth every penny. They're classic and will last forever and only get better with age. For this style I recommend going down a half size. I have 8.5 in other styles, but for these I needed and 8 and they fit perfect. Get a pair; you'll love them.

I have size 10 flat feet, but these boots fit perfectly! Comfy, no problems getting in to the boot, I didn't have to wear them in at all. I love the brown color; they are a little heavy, but really doesn't bother me. They are beautiful sturdy boots and the price is not unreasonable since if you care for them they will last a lifetime.

I bought these boots as a present for myself after having my first baby. I was looking for something very special, and these certainly are special. The leather is divine, the jade green is an eye catcher, and they feel like slippers to wear. My two concerns before buying them were that the circumference wouldn't make it around my thick calves (thanks water weight) and that the price seemed selfish prior to having a baby in a very expensive city. Turns out they did make it around my calves thanks to losing some of my water weight and the slight stretch to the boot. As far as price, I figure I will have these boots my whole life, such is the quality and style. But let's say I own them for two years, and I wear them every other day. That's roughly a dollar every time I wear them. With my tired feet and inability to look as well put together as I used to (ah, the changing priorities of motherhood), I think that the price is well worth it. Don't you? New baby, new boots, the world is good. I can't comment on the sizing, as my feet have changed. I did order an 8 1/2 even though I am usually an 8, and it seems a good fit.

About Frye

Frye The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.
